Contractor charged with using false documents in RM50,000 claim
Fakhruziyahdy Shaari, 53, was charged with using a set of forged documents regarding maintenance work on 16 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the Community Rehabilitation Centre, Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Camp in Kem Lapangan Terbang Sungai Petani on Nov 20, 2017.
The charge, under Section 471 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 465, provides for a maximum jail term of two years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
The court set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and set Aug 19 for mention. – Bernama

Two rally-goers arrested for allegedly 'whipping' effigy of PM
KUALA LUMPUR: Two people have been arrested over a video where an effigy bearing the likeliness of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was "whipped" during the recent "Turun Anwar" rally. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed the arrests in a statement for investigation under the Sedition Act, Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and the Penal Code on Monday (July 28). Police probe effigy resembling PM brought to Pas-led rally
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have launched an investigation into an effigy resembling the Prime Minister that was allegedly brought by participants during the Pas-led rally held last Saturday. Acting city police chief Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the case is being investigated by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USTJ) of Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department. He said the investigation is being conducted under Section 41 of the Sedition Act, Section 504 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. "As we said earlier, if there are any offences committed under any Act, we will take appropriate action. "Police received four reports in connection with the rally. One case, involving the effigy resembling the Prime Minister, is being handled by USTJ, while the remaining three reports have been referred to the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia as they involve the use of drones," he told a press conference today. He said drones were not permitted to be flown during the rally. Meanwhile, he confirmed that police have not received any reports regarding alleged distribution of extremist leaflets during the gathering. "As of now, no reports have been received. If any are lodged, we will investigate," he said. Last Saturday, police reported that about 18,000 people attended the rally at Dataran Merdeka, which proceeded peacefully.

Recent spike in crime caused by thieving drug addicts, says Kedah top cop
ALOR SETAR: Theft by drug addicts has become the leading cause of rising index crime rates in Kedah, says police chief CP Adzli Abu Shah. He noted that from Jan 1 to Sunday (July 27), Kedah recorded 2,852 index crime cases, with 47 percent involving theft linked to drug addicts. "Kedah police will maintain the focus outlined by former police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh, which is to eradicate drug-related crime. "We believe that if drug issues can be tackled and eliminated as much as possible, the overall index crime rate in Kedah can be brought down," he said. Adzli was responding to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail's recent comments in conjunction with the 2025 National Anti-Drug Day celebration held in Jitra last Friday, urging the Kedah government to step up efforts to remove the state from the top four nationwide for drug addiction rates. On a separate note, he said Kedah police are stepping up border security measures despite the ongoing Thailand-Cambodia conflict occurring far from the state's northern border. "Precautionary steps are being taken by strengthening security at Malaysia's border checkpoints," he said, adding that despite growing support from agencies such as the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency, constant vigilance remains essential. "We must not let our guard down. We are committed to ensuring the country's borders remain secure," he said. Earlier, Adzli attended the rank insignia presentation ceremony for the Kedah police chief and deputy police chief, along with the handover ceremony for the deputy chief post, witnessed by Special Branch director CP Datuk Ibrahim Darus at the police contingent headquarters. Adzli, who was the acting police chief, was officially appointed to the role and promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP).
