The best budget restaurant in Dubai 2025
WINNER
Dampa Seafood Grill
Nothing could dampen (ahem) the passion Dampa has for delivering its legendary Filipino seafood to the masses. After a fire caused the Deira restaurant to close in 2023, it reopened in February 2024 and quickly re-established its vibrant energy.
With a menu crammed with all manner of catch, from whole grilled squid to baked mussels, your best bet is to try it all with the signature seafood dump. At just Dhs176 and enough for three people, watch as the freshest haul is pretty much chucked on the table in front of you, sauce and all (top tip: go for the Cajun).
Tuck in with your hands and devour the lot. The more mess the better.
Time Out Dubai reviewers say: 'Sweet, smoky, fragrant marinade gets into the crevices of every single bite – and likely your hands, elbows and anything else that happens to be exposed. This is no fuss, plenty of mess dining – and it's one of those Dubai meals everyone needs to have had at least once'

Calicut Paragon

If authentic Keralan cooking, packed full of flavour and spice, is what you're searching for, Calicut Paragon is for you. An excellent Indian restaurant specialising in Southern Indian cuisine, this has been one of the best budget restaurants in Dubai for many years, and one of the top Indian restaurants in town, too.
With dishes that sing with spice, dig into chicken Malabari, fish tikka, moilee, masala mushrooms and more, all served with piping hot naan.
Time Out Dubai reviewers say: 'While there are plenty of meat and vegetarian dishes, it's seafood that reigns supreme at Calicut Paragon. And, for us, the crab tushar takes the crown for the best.'

San Wan Hand Pulled Noodles
Credit: San Wan Hand Pulled Noodles
Having opened in JLT in 2023, tucked away in an unassuming corner of Cluster F, right next to Asian Street by Thai, San Wan Hand Pulled Noodles popularity has rocketed into it claiming the title of the best budget restaurant in Dubai, hands down.
Service is friendly and there's a concise menu of Northern Chinese classics that you don't want to miss. Serving affordable, authentic Shaanxi cuisine, the main order here is, as the name suggests, those deliciously moreish noodles – which you can watch the chefs pulling in the kitchen.
The chicken wontons are a must-try too. In short, don't miss it – it's a mighty find in a low-key location.
Time Out Dubai reviewers say: 'San Wan is a real neighbourhood place with character and style, and delivers on what a lot of places promise in Dubai, but don't always come through on. Great food, fantastic value. One of the best budget eateries in town.'

Allo Beirut
Credit: Allo Beirut
This budget chain has become so popular that there are now branches across the city, but our favourite is still the OG version along Hessa Street. You can't fail to miss it – sprawling along the side of the busy road with its brightly lit dining room, neon signs and rows of cars parked outside morning, noon and night.
Dig into pocket-friendly shawarma, laden with punchy garlic sauce, enveloped in fresh, floury saj bread, or opt for a mixed grill and pots of hummus for a filling treat that won't hurt your wallet. It's open 24 hours, too.
Time Out Dubai reviewers say: 'Inside, it's industrial-meets-homely, exposed ceilings and open kitchens juxtaposed against trinket-adorned walls. At one end, watch a team of bakers toast fresh saj on a dome and sling manakish into a brick oven. At the other, chefs form falafel rings at speed and shave hot, sliced meats from two towering shawarma skewers.'

Betawi
Credit: Betawi
Indonesian chefs are celebrating their heritage and cuisine at long-standing eatery Betawi (it first opened in Karama in 2007), one of the best budget restaurants in Dubai. Traditional dishes are cooked with flair and served at exceptional value, with most main courses coming in around the Dhs60 mark.
Think nasi padang, bebek kremes, seafood laksa, mie goreng, ayam geprek and udang bakar, served with signature sambals. Not afraid of a bit of spice, this is a restaurant that is both true to its roots and committed to offering its customers a very affordable dining experience. Expect to see groups of friends packed onto the terrace, soaking up the views and the vibes.
Time Out Dubai reviewers say: 'Go for the nasi goreng or nasi padang and prepare for mouthfuls of spice and punchy, aromatic flavours. It's authentic and delicious. Portion sizes are generous, the décor is basic and staff are always helpful.'

Dhaba Lane
Credit: Dhaba Lane
A budget, Indian street food-style eatery in JLT, Dhaba Lane has been delighting savvy diners with its moreish curries since 2017. Serving traditional dishes from Punjab to Delhi, Calcutta and beyond, there are plenty of regional flavours to try here.
It serves traditional plates with a modern twist, all at prices that won't make your eyes water. The interiors are cute and the spices are punchy, check out curries, chaat, biryanis and beyond.
Open daily, noon-3.30pm, 6.30pm-midnight. Unlicensed. Cluster D, JLT, dhaba-lane (054 999 4251).
Dukkan El Baba
Credit: Dukkan El Baba
For homely, comforting Lebanese bites at affordable pricing, Dukkan El Baba is one of the best place for cheap eats in Dubai. A cute, low-key spot that opened in early 2023, Dukkan El Baba has a regular menu plus regular specials and dishes of the day – meaning you can make repeat visits and always try something different.
The menu is a mix of hot, cold and saucy. Some of our favourites are Lebanese vine leaves, stuffed courgette, aubergine fatteh, chicken shish tawook and delicious shawarma. Don't miss it if you want terrific Lebanese food, for less.
Time Out Dubai reviewers say: 'Shish barak swimming in laban tastes just like home and is served with buttery vermicelli rice, while stuffed cabbage is larger than your usual (almost burrito-sized) and will make a big dent in your appetite. By the end of the meal, you'll have filled your belly to the brim without doing much harm to your wallet.'

Hanoi Naturally
Credit: Hanoi Naturally
This healthy Asian restaurant is a go-to spot for Vietnamese cuisine in Dubai. And the best news is it's also one of the best budget restaurants in Dubai.
Found in JLT, where you'll discover many of the best authentic, pocket-friendly eateries in town, Hanoi Naturally is a popular place for those who want to tuck into healthy dishes, for less.
Enjoy salads, phos and more, all using delicious, fresh ingredients at prices that will make you return time and again.
Time Out Dubai reviewers say: 'Absolutely unmissable is a bowl of pho – whether chicken, beef or vegetable. Slurping up this fragrant, brothy noodle soup is one of the best comfort food experiences in town. Other classics include bun noodle dishes and crunchy salads packed with julienned papaya, carrots and punchy fish sauce.'

Mama'esh
32 banging budget restaurants, as chosen by Dubai's top chefs. Credit: Mama'esh
Mama'esh is one of the best budget restaurants in Dubai and one that we can't get enough of. A Palestinian restaurant that has spread to various locations throughout the city, the food is excellent and authentic wherever you go.
For a cute date night or lunch out with the family, head to the Al Manara branch for charming décor and a delightful little terrace. Dig into freshly baked manakish laden with gooey, molten cheese, or Palestinian hummus and spinach fatayer.
The breakfast platters are ace, and for traditional Palestinian food, there's no better place in Dubai.
Time Out Dubai reviewers say: 'Mama'esh bakes with organic flour only and the quality in its ingredients sing with the larger-than-life mama'esh. With prices averaging between Dhs9 to Dhs18 per manoushe or Dhs15 to Dhs29 for fatayer, you can fill up here even when payday has long been and gone.'

The Little Bali
Credit: The Little Bali
Another cracking affordable eatery in JLT – for authentic Balinese cuisine there's nowhere better in Dubai than The Little Bali. With budget plates that are bursting with flavour, the menu is traditional with top choices such as ayam taliwang (grilled chicken with lalapan, rice and sambal taliwang) and ikan goreng (crispy tilapia in a choice of sauces).
You can also find more unusual meats such as oxtail and camel on the menu too. Don't miss the nasi goreng and satay sampler platter for classics done well.
Time Out Dubai reviewers say: 'Big flavours. Bags of authenticity. Plenty to work your way through over a few visits. There really is a whole lot to love about The Little Bali.'

Inside the quirky British village where Liam Gallagher and Tom Cruise have been spotted

The village in Derbyshire has a stunning backdrop of towering limestone cliffs that has recently seen some impressive celeb sightings Stoney Middleton, one of the most dramatic villages in the Peak District, nestled amid jutting limestone cliffs, has previously been immortalised on film. In 2021, Tom Cruise filmed epic scenes for the movie Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. ‌ The action star filmed along the cliffs and quarries of this Derbyshire dale, even visiting the village's quirky food hotspots with his cast and crew. Not only did Tom Cruise pay a visit, but the village has also welcomed Oasis star Liam Gallagher on his holidays. ‌ Liam popped into one of Stoney Middleton's famous food hotspots — the village chippy, housed in a Grade-II listed former toll house. ‌ Situated in the Middleton Dale valley around 13 miles from Buxton, Stoney Middleton is a village that was almost carved out from the dramatic scenery surrounding it. Limestone quarrying was extensive here for centuries. It was at the village's Dalton Quarry where Tom Cruise flew over in a helicopter, executing a dramatic stunt that saw a train carriage driven off the cliffs for the blockbuster film, reports the Manchester Evening News. ‌ But this wasn't the first drama to unfold on these cliffs. One of the most famous stories of this Peak District village is that which gives the name to the imposing rock faces as you drive in - the Lovers Leap cliffs. According to local folklore, back in 1762 the "most beautiful girl in Stoney Middleton", Hannah Baddeley, was brutally spurned by her beau William Barnsley. She scaled the cliffs, declared her love for William and leapt. ‌ However, her woollen petticoats were said to have ballooned out to serve as a parachute - carrying her safely down to the ground and foiling her bid to end it all. The incident is said to have freed her of her longing for the fellow, and she survived another two years until December 1764. The incident inspired the name of the cliffs and the pub hewn into the side of them which was previously known as The Lovers Leap, marked with a plaque on the building. But more recently it has been acquired to become the Curry Cottage restaurant which boasts a peculiar geological secret.... The restaurant where you can dine in a cave Indeed, at the Curry Cottage you can actually eat inside a cave. Owners of the Indian restaurant gave a stylish contemporary transformation to the former pub (which had more recently been a greasy spoon style café) to become the Curry Cottage seven years ago. ‌ And they've now highlighted the restaurant's hidden treasure: a private dining room that's actually hewn into a cave inside the property. Manager Nadeem Khan has fitted atmospheric lighting over the cave wall and says the cave room is one of the most sought-after spots for diners having a special night out there. But diners should be aware that when it rains, water continues to drip down the cave walls. ‌ Nadeem said: "Depending on where you sit and the weather you might get a little bit of spray, but it all adds to the atmosphere. Everyone loves to come and look at the cave. There's not many restaurants that have a room like this inside." The Curry Cottage is open six days a week from 5pm Tuesday to Sunday. When Tom Cruise came to town Hollywood legend and action hero Tom Cruise left locals gobsmacked when he arrived to shoot dramatic sequences for the Mission Impossible 7 film in Stoney Middleton. A production team commandeered an enormous site at the Dalton Quarry in April 2021 to construct a mock railway that witnessed a train carriage hurtle off the cliff edge. ‌ Tom was seen filming from a helicopter above the precipice for what appear destined to be spectacular sequences in the newest chapter of the blockbuster franchise. And it seems Tom savoured numerous local delicacies during his stay in Stoney Middleton. According to Nadeem from the Curry Cottage, the star ordered a selection of curries for himself and his team whilst in the village - and he mentioned he'd also heard Tom had grabbed takeaways from the area's renowned fish and chip shop as well. ‌ The Grade-II listed chippy Stoney Middleton can claim one of Britain's extremely rare Grade II listed fish and chip establishments. Toll Bar Fish and Chips sits on the village's main thoroughfare and has been dishing out battered delicacies since 1926. The chippy operates from within the village's historic Toll House - originally constructed to levy charges on travellers using this principal route during the 1800s. Its eight-sided structure was designed to mirror the distinctive form of the local church. However, by 1926 Herbert Ford had bought the premises to establish the village chippy, before Eleanor Hall took control in 1940, managing the business for approximately 30 years until her retirement. The establishment has continued as a fish and chip shop ever since, now operated by Dr Peter Grafton and his wife Kirsten from 2018. ‌ They offer classic fish, chips, sausages, pudding and pies, alongside "Yorkshire fishcakes" which combine layers of potato and fish, plus daily rotating specials featuring halloumi fries, black pudding and haggis. The premises enjoys an ideal location next to Grove Garden, where a crystal-clear babbling brook flows directly beneath the Toll Bar, providing the perfect spot to enjoy your freshly prepared chips on bright days. ‌ Several commemorative plaques adorn the entrance, displaying past awards the establishment has earned, including recognition from the Telegraph "Best Eating Guide" featuring the testimonial: "This tiny stone cottage always has queues out of the door as it sells the best fish and chips, not cooked in dripping. The drive to get here is lovely too." The Toll Bar Fish and Chip shop operates Wednesday through Saturday exclusively, from 11.30am until 8pm. Pubs and walks The village's appeal as a stopping point through the centuries saw numerous pubs emerge over the last 200 years. However, just one survives today — The Moon Inn — which relocated from its original site when it operated as The Old Moon Inn. ‌ It features contemporary décor and serves a complete selection of traditional fare. The establishment sits at the foot of High Street which climbs steeply towards the village summit, earning it recognition as the "steepest high street in the country". On the opposite side, walkers form a steady stream ascending the hillside via a footpath that continues across to Eyam. This ranks among Derbyshire's most renowned settlements, notorious for its heartbreaking history as the "Plague Village" where 206 inhabitants died from bubonic plague in 1665. Memorials throughout the community honour the deceased, alongside a heritage centre documenting this devastating chapter in local history. For thrill-seekers, the rocky faces in this region provide excellent opportunities for climbing. The limestone outcrop represents one of the Peak District's most significant geological sites and has attracted climbers for generations. How to get there Stoney Middleton lies on the A623 linking Buxton and Chatsworth in Derbyshire, approximately 35 miles from Manchester city centre. The closest railway stations are located at Hathersage or Grindleford, offering frequent services to and from Manchester Piccadilly with a journey time of approximately 45 minutes. Bus services such as the 257 provide connections between Hathersage, Grindleford and Stoney Middleton.

Families cook up global flavours and fight food waste at charity's community kitchen

Dundee families are getting the chance to 'eat their way around the world' this summer as a local charity unveils its free programme of holiday activities. Signpost International runs a community kitchen at The Roundhouse in the city's Whitfield area, where surplus food donated to the charity by supermarkets, bakers and allotments is being made into fresh meals. This project works to close the loop between food waste and food poverty by showing families how to transform ingredients into healthy dishes from across the globe. Mum Dianne Hutton comes to the cooking classes with her daughter Emily. STV News Children have been tasting cuisine from all over the world at the community kitchen STV News 'She's really enjoying learning to cook different foods and being hands-on,' she said. 'It's encouraged her to try different foods that she maybe wouldn't try at home with us encouraging her. 'You feel like you're part of something meaningful in the community as well.' Dozens of families have been attending the centre over the summer holidays for various activities, all aimed at developing children's skills and confidence. The kitchen programme not only teaches life skills but also helps families spend quality time together, according to community education worker Stephanie Dolan. STV News Mum Brogan Blann with Isla making tzatziki together STV News She said: 'A lot of children are quite fussy eaters and parents can find that quite challenging. They don't always like it, but it's good to explore new food in a relaxed environment. 'It's important to introduce new foods and cooking skills early on so they get used to new foods and how to work with them.' So far, families have sampled Italian, Indian and Greek cuisine, with children recently making tzatziki and chicken gyros. STV News It's Greek Week at the Signpost International community kitchen STV News Communications officer Rafael F. de Jesus said the sessions also help teach families to make the most of fresh produce. 'Waste sometimes happens because people don't know what to do with the food they get from the supermarket, like fruits and vegetables,' he said. 'We want to be able to show them how to make healthy meals – it's about having something that is going to sustain you. 'We're often so rushed at home that we don't give opportunities for the little ones to learn; to be able to have this place to support the kids is very important.'
