laid foundation stones of three road projects worth Rs 1,700 crore and inaugurated seven road projects worth Rs 4,650 crore in the state on Thursday at two separate programmes held in Ranchi and Garhwa.
Stating that the Centre is already working on projects worth Rs 2 lakh crore in Jharkhand, Gadkari said plans are afoot for additional projects worth Rs 1 lakh crore in the state.
In Garhwa, Gadkari laid the foundation stone for Rs 1,330 crore four-lane project measuring 32 km from Chattisgarh-Jharkhand border to Gumla on NH-43. That apart, he inaugurated the Rs 1,130 crore four-lane Garhwa bypass road measuring 22.73 km on NH-75 under the Ranchi-Varanasi economic corridor.
With the construction of the by-pass road from to Khajuri village (Garhwa district), the residents heaved a sigh of relief.
The by-pass from Shankha village (Palamu district) to Khajuri village (Garhwa district) links about two dozen villages in Palamu and Garhwa. He also sanctioned Garhwa-Ambikapur four-lane road and few other projects worth around Rs 2,460 crore in Garhwa district. In Ranchi, too, he gave his approval to outer ring road project and widening of Ranchi-Muri Road.

Gadkari said national highway projects worth Rs 40,000 crore have already been completed in the state while projects worth Rs 70,000 crore are in various stages of implementation. "More projects worth Rs 75,000 crore are in the offing, under various stages," he said.
Setting timelines for a few ongoing projects, he said that the Rs 36,000-crore Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata corridor will be over by March 2028. A six lane between Delhi-Kolkata estimated around Rs 31,700-crore will be completed by June 2026 and Ranchi-Patna four-lane economic corridor worth Rs 8,900 crore is eyeing December 2029 deadline.
State finance minister Radhakrishana Kishore, who was present in Garhwa, cited how Garhwa and Palamu have stopped receiving security related expenditure (SRE) scheme owing to Naxal menace but has now stopped getting it.
"Centre says that Naxal menace is now over in Garhwa and Palamu but I personally believe that it is contained only because of 196 police pickets. Remove those pickets, and you will realise how troublesome law and order is here again. Hence, we must continue to get those funds to address the challenges in this region," he said, adding that these regions are rain shadow area and needs special assistance to stop migration and further development projects.
Gadkari advised the minister to get an official order passed from the govt and he will help in building over 1,000 ponds through NHAI free of cost like he did in Vidharbha (Maharashtra) to tide over water crisis in farm dominated areas.

Mumbai businessman accused in bank fraud and money laundering case denied bail
Mumbai: Observing that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) collected sufficient material to prima facie conclude that the applicant was actively involved in the offence of money laundering, a special PMLA court on Friday rejected the bail plea of businessman Vijay Gupta. He is accused in a Rs 764.44 crore fraud involving the State Bank of India (SBI). Gupta, founder of the Vindhyavasini Group of Companies, which operates in steel manufacturing, real estate development, and infrastructure services, remains in judicial custody. The ED strongly opposed the bail, submitting that Gupta is a "habitual economic offender" actively involved in money laundering. Given the gravity and seriousness of the offences, the court concluded that Gupta is not entitled to bail. While the defence claimed that the accused was in jail for over 12 months, the court noted that he was arrested in the money laundering case only in March this year. The court said that the period of custody in the predicate offence cannot be considered since the offence under section PMLA is a different and distinct offence. The ED's case stems from six FIRs registered by the CBI and EOW, Mumbai, against six companies of the Vindhyavasini Group. It is submitted that these companies, promoted and managed by Gupta, are accused of defrauding the SBI's Eastern Express Highway Branch in Thane of approximately Rs 764.44 crores. According to the ED, the accused used 57 shell entities and 117 bank accounts for the placement, integration, and layering of the proceeds of crime. The ED detailed a systematic scheme of fraud, including the submission of fabricated and inflated Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), Technical Economic Viability (TEV) reports, and highly inflated valuation reports of mortgaged properties to secure maximum loan sanctions from SBI. It was further alleged that the accused colluded with Vishwas Kadam, a then relationship manager for Medium Enterprises (RMME) at SBI, Thane branch, and loan consultant Vijay Patil, to process and approve loans based on these forged documents. The ED claims Gupta paid a bribe of Rs 59 lakh to Vishwas Kadam. It was further submitted that there was a diversion of approximately Rs 164 crore from cash credit limit accounts of group companies to Gupta's personal accounts and shell entities owned by him and his brothers, Ajay Gupta and Sanjay Gupta. These funds were allegedly routed multiple times for unauthorised purposes. Allegations include the purchase of flats in Borivali and Kandivali using illicit funds, with one flat reportedly purchased in the name of his children's caretaker. It was also alleged that Gupta siphoned off a significant portion of Rs 13.20 crore received as compensation from NHAI for land acquisition, some of which was already mortgaged with SBI. Gupta's lawyer argued that he was falsely implicated and that the case was lodged with ulterior motives. It was also contended that the transactions are civil in nature, with recovery proceedings already initiated by SBI pending before civil courts. It was also submitted that sufficient collateral was provided to the bank, and the remaining dues of Rs 321 crores (out of a total loan of Rs 805 crores, with Rs 486 crores already recovered) could be covered by auctioning mortgaged properties, including the Solaris Building at Powai, valued at approximately Rs 400 crore in 2013. The defence highlighted Gupta's incarceration of over 12 months and the unlikelihood of a speedy trial given hundreds of witnesses and over fifty thousand pages of documentary evidence.

IISc to study feasibility of Hemavati river link canal project
Scientists from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, will study the feasibility of the Hemavati River Link Canal Project in Tumakuru district. Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti V. Somanna has recommended an inspection by experts from IISc and 'we have accepted this recommendation,' said Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who holds the Water Resources portfolio. The decision to conduct the feasibility study was taken at a meeting chaired by Mr. Somanna and Mr. Shivakumar with legislators of all parties on Friday. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Shivakumar said, 'It is not just about Kunigal, but we have to provide water to the entire Tumakuru district. We have a plan for it and we will distribute water in such a way that it is fair to all. It is our duty to take care of the interests of all taluks.' He said that all taluks were equally important to him and that a scheme would be formulated to provide water to all taluks of Tumakuru. The link project has trigged a political slugfest with the BJP and the Janata Dal (S) accusing the ruling Congress of attempting to divert water to taluks of Bengaluru South district (earlier called Ramanagara). Mr. Shivakumar said, 'We have taken feedback from representatives of the district on Hemavati link canal. Some are protesting that the link canal must not be a pipeline, but that is a decision taken by the government... Our government started this project, but the BJP had stopped it.' Talking about other projects for the region, he said, 'The BJP took back the medical college that was given to my constituency. In spite of former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa's promise, the medical college went to Chickballapur'.
