A Kentucky man is facing felony charges after allegedly biting off a cat's ear during a domestic dispute.
Zachary L. Rollins, 22, was charged with one felony count of torture of a cat or dog following the incident on Saturday, per an arrest citation reviewed by LEX 18, WHAS 11 and the Lexington Herald Leader.
Pulaski County deputies responded to a home on Skyview Drive in Russell Springs, Ky., around 3 p.m. after a woman reported that her intoxicated boyfriend had bitten her cat's ear off. When officers arrived, Rollins was reportedly found hiding under blankets in bed.
He allegedly refused to speak with deputies outside and was subsequently handcuffed inside the residence.
The woman provided officers with photos of the injured cat and a screenshot of a Facebook message in which Rollins allegedly admitted to the act. In the message to his mother, Rollins claimed he bit the cat's ear off because it had bitten him first, per the citation.

Following his arrest, authorities issued a separate warrant related to the deaths of two other cats in April, according to a press release from the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office.
Rollins now faces three felony charges and is being held at Pulaski County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 21, per online court records.

Maine man killed by ‘mini cannon' projectile during fireworks display

A Maine man was killed when a 'mini cannon' projectile from a fireworks display struck him during a gathering among neighbors last weekend, according to authorities. Joseph Hennessey, 41, crumpled to the ground and succumbed to his injuries after he was rushed to a local hospital in Oxford County Saturday night, the county sheriff's office said, according to reports. Joseph Hennessey Joseph Hennessey/Facebook The fireworks show was taking place at a town of Oxford home when tragedy struck. 'I heard a pretty big bang, which I thought was probably a cannon because I've heard them and I've seen them at different places that I've been at,' neighbor Kevin Boutin told WMTW. 'Then the fireworks stopped and then all of a sudden, the ambulance was here and the fire trucks.' The incident happened at a town of Oxford home. KOAT The medical examiner's office ruled that Hennessey, a South Paris resident, was killed by a projectile that came from a mini cannon during the fireworks, the station reported. The death is still under investigation by the Maine State Police. The incident is one of numerous fatalities involving fireworks during the summer months, including an 8-year-old girl who was struck during a Fourth of July celebration this year and South Carolina father who was killed when he put a lit fireworks on his head last year.

Brantford man charged with assault by Brantford police and OPP

A Brantford man has been charged with violent crimes by two police services. Provincial police arrested Alveen Ahmed, 28, last week, charging him with sexual assault, assault and forcible confinement. It was related to an ongoing investigation into a sexual assault that took place in Brant County in January, according to a news release on Thursday. Earlier in July, Brantford police charged Ahmed with attempted murder, assault with a weapon, kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault, related to an incident on July 13. An officer had found someone with 'serious injuries' from a 'physical and sexual assault' near Golf Road and Highway 403, a Brantford police release said. Brantford police released Ahmed's photo and a picture of his pickup truck, a black 2022 Dodge Ram, because they think there could be more victims. Following both arrests, Ahmed is out on a $20,000 bail. He is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date. He's not to leave his residence except if he or an immediate family member has a medical emergency, or if he is with his surety. He's not to have any weapons or drive without his surety present. He is also subject to GPS monitoring. In a Facebook post on Monday, Brantford—Brant South—Six Nations MP Larry Brock pointed to it as an example of Canada's 'broken' catch‑and‑release bail system. The police ask anyone with information to call 519-756-7050 . To provide information anonymously, call Brant—Brantford Crime Stoppers at 519-750-8477 or 1-800-222-8477 . Error! New details shed light on why 15-year-old may have killed parents, 3 siblings in Washington mansion

The deranged 15-year-old accused of slaughtering all but one of his family members in their ritzy lakeside Washington mansion was kept isolated from the world and raised under a 'rigid, militant survivalist ideology,' his lawyer claims. Mark and Sarah Humiston drove their future killer son to the heinous crime after hammering him and his siblings with years of religious extremism and government paranoia, according to court documents filed last week. Prosecutors say their oldest son — whose identity has been kept under wraps — shot his parents, brothers Benjamin, 13, Joshua, 9, and sister Katheryn, 7, in the middle of the night in October. His 11-year-old sister survived the bloodbath by playing dead. 3 Mark and Sarah Humiston and three of their children were killed by their oldest son last fall. Facebook 'A common theme that has been expressed amongst extended family, neighbors, and those who knew the Humistons is that the children were isolated from the outside world and did not engage socially with many peers – only a select few families that went to their church and were friends of their family,' the court documents, obtained by KOMO News, said. 'Furthermore, initial reports indicate the home was abusive, tightly controlled, and dominated by extreme religious beliefs.' The killer and his dead siblings were homeschooled and kept under a 'rigid, militant survivalist ideology,' the documents claim. The Humisons were allegedly deeply paranoid of the government and medical professionals, especially surrounding the COVID-19 vaccine, leading to what the defense team painted as an isolating lifestyle. 3 The parents were allegedly religious extremists and ran a 'militant' household. Facebook They were also all allegedly given access to firearms, including Mark Humiston's handgun that the teenager used in his attempt to wipe out his entire family. The revelations were pieced together from nearly 100 interviews with witnesses and family members, many of whom spoke of the killer teen as 'kind, respectful, and deeply devoted to his family.' Even the boy's maternal grandmother sided with him, telling attorneys that Sarah Humiston 'was abusive and demeaning to the children.' 3 The murder took place in the family's $2 million Washington home. KOMO News The woman allegedly told cops she had previously threatened to report the Humiston parents if their abuse did not stop. The alleged abuse apparently came to a head last October when the 15-year-old methodically gunned down his family members one by one in their $2 million suburban Seattle mansion. The teen opened fire around 5 a.m., chillingly shooting them and then returning to check their pulses. Only his sister, an 11-year-old, survived by playing dead when he fired at her neck and hand. She slipped out of a window to a neighbor's house before he could finish the job, police said. At the same time, the gunman called 911 and told dispatchers that his 13-year-old brother had killed their family and 'taken himself out' because he had gotten in trouble looking at pornography the night before. He then staged the bloody scene before first responders arrived in an attempt to pin the killings on his dead brother, even putting a gun in his hand, according to the charging documents. The teen was immediately taken into custody and faces five counts of first-degree aggravated murder and one count of first-degree attempted murder.
