Kentucky teen dies protecting mother from illegal immigrant's violent alleged assault in family apartment
An illegal immigrant allegedly shot and killed a 15-year-old Kentucky teen who tried to stop him from raping his mother, authorities said. Gildardo Amandor-Martinez, 36, a Mexican citizen, is accused of murdering his girlfriend's son, identified as Luis Jocsan Nanez Lopez, when the teen tried to intervene in a July 20 attack against his mother. The teen's younger sister was also assaulted and injured. "15-year-old Luis Lopez died trying to save his mother from this criminal illegal alien who was attempting to rape her. Gildardo Amandor-Martinez is a rapist and cold-blooded killer who should have never been in this country," Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said. Court documents obtained by the Lexington Herald Leader said he was returning from a bar at around 2:30 a.m. when he attempted to have sex with his girlfriend without her consent, and she screamed while trying to stop him. The teen came into his mother's room to ask her if he should call the police. Martinez allegedly told Lopez to leave, and his mother said they would talk about it in the morning. Martinez grabbed a suitcase to leave the apartment but then grabbed a pistol and fired through a door three times, Lopez and his sister, court documents state. The teen was shot in the face and pronounced dead at the scene. The mother fled the apartment with her three other children, including a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old, the newspaper reported. She told police she heard several more gunshots while running away. Lopez would have been starting his sophomore year at Rowan County Senior High School, the Rowan County Coroner's Office said. Gildardo Martinez is charged with murder, first-degree assault and attempted rape. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has since lodged a detainer request for him, which calls for local law enforcement to hold illegal immigrants in custody until they can be turned over to federal authorities. Gildardo Martinez attempted to enter the United States via the southern border three times under the Biden administration in 2021, ICE said. He successfully entered illegally on his third attempt. "The Biden administration's open-border policies allowed this monster to walk American streets and commit these evil crimes, including murder, assault, and attempted rape, against a mother and her children," McLaughlin said. "ICE has placed an arrest detainer to ensure Amandor-Martinez will not be released onto America's streets and allowed to terrorize American families again."

'Pure evil' illegal migrant 'murdered boy, 15, then tried to rape youngster's mother'
An illegal migrant has been accused of shooting dead a teen who tried to stop the Mexican national from raping his mother. Gildardo Amandor-Martinez, 36, allegedly gunned down Luis Lopez, 15, after the brave boy heard his mother crying for help from the bedroom of their Morehead, Kentucky home on July 20. She had been trying to fight off her boyfriend Martinez after he returned from a bar and tried to have sex with her, according to court documents obtained by the Lexington Herald Leader. Luis entered the room upon hearing the commotion and asked his mother - who sustained bite marks and other injuries from the attack - if he should call the cops. Martinez, allegedly naked on top of the horrified woman, told the boy to get out before he appeared to be leaving the apartment himself at around 2.30am. But on his way out, Martinez fired a pistol through the bedroom door three times - striking Luis and his young sister, Naomi, 3. The mother allegedly escaped from the house with her one-year-old, who she shares with Martinez, before realizing her three-year-old was still inside. She ran back to the home and shouted for Naomi to run, she told police, adding that she heard more bullets ring as she sprinted away. The mother was laying in bed with the baby she has with Martinez when he returned home demanding sex, Fox 56 reported. Cops arrived at the residence and immediately declared Luis, who had been shot in the face, dead. His sister was taken to a nearby hospital for her injuries. She is in critical condition. Martinez ran from the home and was tracked down by authorities roughly 12 hours later and charged with murder, first degree assault and first-degree attempted rape. On July 23, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced ICE pursued an arrest detainer against Martinez. ICE detainers are 'legal requests to state or local law enforcement to hold illegal aliens in custody until they can be turned over to immigration authorities,' according to the DHS. The agency also revealed Martinez is a 'criminal illegal alien from Mexico [who] attempted to enter the country THREE times under the Biden administration in 2021.' On his third try, Martinez finally entered the US through the Southern border, but the date of his entry remains unclear. '15-year-old Luis Lopez died trying to save his mother from this criminal illegal alien who was attempting to rape her,' Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said. 'Gildardo Amandor-Martinez is a rapist and cold-blooded killer who should have never been in this country. 'The Biden administration's open-border policies allowed this monster to walk American streets and commit these evil crimes, including murder, assault, and attempted rape, against a mother and her children.' Luis attended Rowan County Senior High School, where he would have been a sophomore in the fall. School officials described Luis as a 'sweet student.' A fundraiser through DOVES of Gateway, a shelter that helps domestic violence victims, has been organized to support the devastated family. The shelter partnered with Citizens Bank to create the Nunez Family Memorial Fund for funeral expenses for Luis. 'We grieve alongside the Nunez family and stand with them in this time of heartbreak,' the shelter said in a Facebook post. Tributes from heartbroken relatives, loved ones and mothers empathizing with Luis's mom's pain have poured in on social media. 'When one momma cries, we all cry,' one woman, Kylie Burks, wrote. 'That woman always has a smile on her face and her world just shattered. 'This child died a hero and deserves all the love. My heart is broken for this family.' His aunt also shared a tear-jerking tribute on Facebook, writing: 'My boy I love you, my heart is broken because you are gone.'

Stuntman jumps the 'Dukes of Hazzard' car over fountain
A stuntman drove a replica of the "Dukes of Hazzard" General Lee car over a fountain in Somerset, Kentucky, over the weekend, in a feat inspired by the series. The stunt took place at the Somernites Cruise, a classic car event, in downtown Somerset on Saturday, June 28. According to local outlets the Lexington Herald Leader and the Commonwealth Journal, 35,000 people were in attendance to watch stunt jumper Raymond Kohn complete his 30th "Dukes of Hazzard" jump over a fountain in the city's square. "It was so popular the first time, people asked me to come back and it became more popular – and I became the go-to-guy to jump the General Lee," Kohn told the Herald Leader. Kohn later told the outlet he had recently undergone surgery to remove a brain tumor, adding he asked the surgeon, "Will I be able to jump after the surgery?" "Dukes" stars John Schneider, who played Bo Duke, and Byron Cherry, who played Coy Duke, were also in attendance at the event. 'The Dukes of Hazzard' cast reunites, Daisy Duke star Catherine Bach hints at potential reboot "The Dukes of Hazzard," which ran for 146 episodes across seven seasons, followed the "good ol'" Duke boys of rural Hazzard County, Georgia. Not without its controversies, reruns of the show are few and far between due to its Confederate flag imagery. TV Land dumped the show several years ago, and Warner Bros., which produced the series, halted production of toy replicas of the General Lee, an orange 1969 Dodge Charger stock car driven by rambunctious Southern cousins Luke and Bo. The car famously features an image of the Confederate flag on its roof.

Zachary L. Rollins, 22, was charged with one felony count of torture of a cat or dog following the incident on Saturday, per an arrest citation reviewed by LEX 18, WHAS 11 and the Lexington Herald Leader. Pulaski County deputies responded to a home on Skyview Drive in Russell Springs, Ky., around 3 p.m. after a woman reported that her intoxicated boyfriend had bitten her cat's ear off. When officers arrived, Rollins was reportedly found hiding under blankets in bed. He allegedly refused to speak with deputies outside and was subsequently handcuffed inside the residence. The woman provided officers with photos of the injured cat and a screenshot of a Facebook message in which Rollins allegedly admitted to the act.
