Watch: Firefighters contain part of Table Mountain blaze as winds hamper efforts
According to the latest update on the park's Facebook page – posted 13 hours ago – a fire above Boyes Drive and in Peck's Valley remained active.
'The left flank of the fire has been contained in areas accessible on foot, while the right flank in Peck's Valley continues to burn downhill towards the road. Efforts are currently focused on slowing the fire's downhill progression.'
The update noted that Boyes Drive remains closed to the public.
'Members of the public and hikers are strongly urged to avoid the surrounding trails until further notice. The fire was first reported at about 08:30 [yesterday], and two fire crews were immediately mobilised. VWS were mobilised about 45 minutes after this. The City fire resources were also mobilised. The fire is being driven by a strong and variable wind which makes conditions difficult for the ground crews to fight.'

The blaze comes less than two months after a fire raged in the Silvermine section of the park, between Tokai and Noordhoek in the southern peninsula.
In a Facebook post last Sunday, SANParks announced that trails closed in Tokai and Silvermine East (including Kalk Bay, St James, Muizenberg mountains and the Steenberg Plateau) will reopen on July 1.
'The Silvermine picnic site and boardwalk around the dam and as well as the riverwalk and other trails will remain closed as all the infrastructure at Silvermine West has been damaged and the ablution blocks burnt down. Infrastructure repairs will take some time and we will not be able to open the picnic area while there are no toilets.'

Sewage updates across Kingsburgh and Amanzimtoti
WARD 97 councillor, André Beetge, said most of the sewage complaints in Kingsburgh and Amanzimtoti have now been resolved, following physical oversight visits conducted last week. He added that all reported issues were inspected and, in most cases, resolved or in the process of being addressed. Also read: Lower Illovo resident endures sewage nightmare Kingsburgh A temporary sewage line has been installed along Thomas Holstead Drive, where a manhole was washed away during recent storms. 'The temporary line will remain in place while the damaged manhole is being rebuilt,' said Beetge. Doon Heights Two breaks in the pipeline between Mopani and Camelsfoot streets, which were causing effluent to flow towards Valley Road and into the Little Amanzimtoti River, have also been repaired. Amanzimtoti The wastewater department is attending to a damaged line between the Topham Road and Chain Rocks pump stations. This section runs along George Glendennen Alley, next to the railway line. Beetge confirmed that progress is being made. 'Teams are on the ground and working to complete repairs to the damaged infrastructure,' he said. Also read: South Coast Sun 25 July 2025 In another area of Amanzimtoti, the sewage line along Bernadotte Street that was washed away during recent storms, has been replaced. New concrete pedestals have also been installed to replace those that previously supported the line. Illovo Beach In Illovo Beach, a blocked manhole that caused sewage to spill into a nearby nursery has been cleared. 'This is a recurring issue caused by foreign matter such as rags, nappies and sanitary pads being flushed into a system that was never designed to handle anything beyond human waste and toilet paper,' explained Beetge. While chlorine and lime have been used to disinfect affected waterways, Beetge cautioned that odours may linger. 'There might still be a smell until the next proper downpour flushes the system completely,' he said. For more South Coast Sun news, follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Foggy mornings and isolated showers expected in KwaZulu-Natal
KwaZulu-Natal will see a mix of fog and light rain this week, especially in western regions. The day will begin with widespread fog patches in areas such as Pietermaritzburg and parts of the midlands, followed by isolated showers by late morning. 'We're starting tomorrow with some morning fog patches over parts of KwaZulu-Natal,' said Odirile Modipa, a forecaster. 'The fog will gradually lift, but isolated showers are expected to continue through the afternoon.' The province is expected to remain relatively calm, with temperatures barely crossing the 20°C mark. Durban will drop to 13°C overnight, while Pietermaritzburg can expect a low of 9°C. Maximum temperatures are forecast at 22°C in Pietermaritzburg and 17°C along the cooler coastal regions. Modipa noted, 'KwaZulu-Natal can also expect quite a cool day, with Pietermaritzburg only peaking at a maximum of 22°C and coastal areas around 17°C.' The isolated showers will affect Western KwaZulu-Natal the most as the weather system affects the central interior as it pushes eastward. While rainfall will be light, farmers and residents should remain alert for reduced visibility and damp conditions. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
