Modesto police arrest four people in organized retail theft operation
MPD said the detectives that were assigned to the Property Crimes Unit, along with other personnel, were working on Organized Retail Theft Operations alongside community business partners within the city.
Vandalism causes Xfinity outage in Sacramento area
Officials came across a group of people who were attempting to victimize one of the retailers, MPD said. The individuals were then caught red-handed and booked into Stiansilaus County Public Safety Center for several felony charges.
Later, authorities discovered the group had committed thefts from six different stores in three different cities. Over $6,000 in property was recovered and returned to the businesses that were victimized.

Suspect arrested in 1995 killing of DC police officer
GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A suspect in the 1995 killing of a police officer from the nation's capital has been arrested nearly 30 years after her body was found in her Maryland home, police said Tuesday. The Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland did not immediately identify the person arrested in the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Denna Fredericka Campbell, an officer for the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington. County police were expected to release more information about the arrest and investigation at a news conference Wednesday in Gaithersburg. Campbell was a four-year MPD veteran. Her live-in boyfriend, who discovered her body in her Silver Spring apartment, was initially charged with murder back in 1995, but that was dropped two months later, according to published reports .

Montgomery man sent to federal prison on gun charges
A Montgomery man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison on firearms charges. On July 31, Calvin Craig Griffin, 22, of Montgomery was sentenced to 81 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, said acting United States Attorney Kevin Davidson. Following his prison term, Griffin will serve three years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. According to court records, on Aug. 28, 2024, officers with the Montgomery Police Department were conducting patrols in the area of Eastern Boulevard and Carmichael Road when they saw an person entering a hotel room carrying what appeared to be an AR-style pistol. Hotel management informed officers that they suspected illegal activity in that room and requested assistance in having the individuals removed from the property. Inside, they recovered an AR-style pistol with an extended magazine containing 63 rounds of ammunition. Because of prior felony convictions, Griffin is prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition. Griffin pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm on April 21. The case was investigated by the Montgomery Police Department (MPD) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), with assistance from the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit, which includes the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, ATF, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and MPD. Milwaukee fatal downtown shooting; neighbors tired of violence

What we know The Milwaukee Police Department said a 21-year-old man was shot and killed early on Saturday, July 19. Loved ones identified him as Raymond Wilson Jr. It happened just after 2 a.m. near Broadway and Juneau, right by the Milwaukee School of Engineering campus. Local perspective Family did not want to speak on camera, but said Wilson worked downtown and was making plans for his future. Off camera, a woman who identifies as Wilson's sister said the 21-year-old was always smiling, laughing and joking. She said he wanted to be a rapper and was working two jobs to help get him there. FOX6 News was told Wilson had just finished working a security shift downtown on Friday when he went out with people he knew before the fatal shooting. Neighbors in the area say the violence is just too much. "Why do you hate somebody so bad that you have to pull out a gun and shoot them?" asked Sheila Irby, who lives in the area. "That's too close. I could be walking down the street and, like I said, you don't ever know."
