Paramount Plus just added this iconic Christian Bale movie ahead of its 15th anniversary
If you've never seen this movie before, that's understandable. It was nominated several times at the 83rd Academy Awards, but since then, it's not one of those movies you constantly find on TV or hear cinephiles bringing up time and time again.
Plus, like many awards-bait movies, it didn't bring in a ton of money at the box office, falling just shy of $130 million.
But I got a chance to watch it earlier this year at the Atlanta Film Festival and I can safely say it's a movie everyone should watch at least once.
There are two reasons for this. First, the final boxing match is incredible, and maybe the best boxing match I've ever seen in a movie.
Second, Christian Bale's performance is simply incredible. He steals the movie from Mark Wahlberg, and it's no surprise this won him an Oscar.
So if you've never seen this David O. Russell sports drama before, now's your chance. Here's why "The Fighter" is a must-watch now that it's available to stream on Paramount Plus.

"The Fighter" stars Mark Wahlberg as Micky Ward, a boxer from Lowell, Massachusetts.
Micky is what you'd call a "stepping stone" boxer. He's the guy you beat to take your career to the next level and get better fights.
He's managed by his mother, Alice (Melissa Leo), and trained by his brother Dicky (Christian Bale), a former boxer who is still living off the fame of going a full 10 rounds with legendary boxer Sugar Ray Leonard.
Their dynamic is toxic. Alice arranges bad fights for Micky and Dicky is a crack addict who can't be relied on. As Micky develops a new relationship with local bartender Charlene (Amy Adams), he realizes he needs to move his family out of his professional life if he wants a shot at being more than a stepping stone.
"The Fighter" is incredibly well made, really good movie. And for the most part, it's just that — really good.
But there are two places in which this movie achieves greatness, and chief among them is Bale's performance as Micky's drug addict half-brother.
Many of the characters in this movie don't connect with you. You weirdly don't find yourself rooting for Wahlberg's Micky until the final boxing match, which, as I already mentioned, is a technical marvel and probably the best boxing match in any movie, ever.
But Dicky's story is incredibly compelling, and Bale knocks it out of the park. He completely embodies the erratic, delusional washed-up boxer throughout the movie in a way that can only be described as transformative.
Dicky too, goes on a transformation of his own, and watching Bale first transform himself into the initial iteration of Dicky that we meet at the start of the movie, and then continue to change his performance as the character develops, is simply a masterclass in acting.
So while much of this movie is good, yet forgettable, Bale's performance and the final fight will stick with you long after you watch it.

The "Barbie" movie whisks us away to the vibrant, seemingly flawless world of Barbie Land, a place where every day is the best day ever, everyone looks amazing, worries don't exist, and spontaneous dance parties are the norm. But this perfect routine begins to unravel when Stereotypical Barbie(Margot Robbie) suddenly finds herself grappling with thoughts about death and the meaning of life. I've sung "Barbie's" praises since I first saw it in theaters, but I recently fell in love with it all over again on a recent rewatch with my aunt. I found an old family photo of her playing with one of the original Barbies as a kid, and I immediately recognized the doll's black-and-white swimsuit from the movie's opening scenes. Though my aunt had initially written it off ("Ain't it a kid's movie?"), I convinced her to sit down and give "Barbie" a chance. It helped that her older sister, who had also seen it, backed me up, calling it "a movie that every woman should watch at least once." I'm happy to report that not only did she adore it, but so did her 70-plus-year-old husband, who did his fair share of grumbling that we were putting on such a "girly" movie. She especially loved the opening scene about the state of girls' toys before Barbie dolls, because, after all, she lived through it! It was fascinating getting to hear her perspective, and it added an interesting new layer to the movie that I didn't get watching it with my fellow millennials or younger cousins. Critics have also been outspoken in their praise for the "Barbie" movie. With a stellar 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the critics' consensus reads: "'Barbie' is a visually dazzling comedy whose meta humor is smartly complemented by subversive storytelling." Ranking it among the best films of 2023, Kiko Martinez of the San Antonio Current called "Barbie" "one of the most thought-provoking social commentaries and empowering mainstream comedies in recent years." ‘South Park' Removed From Paramount+ Outside the U.S.
Streamers outside of the U.S. can no longer access South Park on Paramount+. Sources have confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Paramount+'s license to stream the series internationally has expired, noting the streaming platform is in continued negotiations and hopes to have the series back up soon for all subscribers. International fans of the long-running animated series can still stream South Park specials on Paramount+ and watch the show on Comedy Central, however. A tweet posted to South Park's official X profile following the July 2 announcement read: 'In response to the press release from Comedy Central about the change in premiere date for South Park Trey Parker & Matt Stone said — 'This merger is a shitshow and it's fucking up South Park. We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.' As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter last month, Parker and Stone threatened legal action against Paramount, accusing incoming president Jeff Shell of interfering with their contract negotiations with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and Netflix. Shell, currently chairman of sports and media at Redbird Capital Partners, is set to take the reins once the merger between David Ellison's Skydance and Paramount Global is complete. On Monday, representatives for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and its Hollywood Local 399 and the Center for American Rights met with the FCC to discuss concessions and emphasize their 'commitment to explaining and applauding a final license package that protects the interests of workers, consumers, and investors.' Paramount currently has two years left on its $900 million deal for the digital rights to South Park. In the June 21 letter written by an attorney for Parker and Stone's entertainment company Park County, Shell is said to have asked potential bidders to modify certain terms of their offers in a 'manner calculated to benefit Paramount at the expense' of the company, specifically pointing to Shell urging WBD to give Paramount+ an exclusive 12-month window for new episodes of the show and to shorten the term of the deal from 10 to five years. 'We hereby demand that you, Redbird, and Skydance immediately cease your interference,' the letter reads. 'If these activities continue, we will have no choice but to act to both protect our rights and discharge any obligations we may have to the public.' In response, a spokesperson for Skydance released a statement which read, 'Under the terms of the transaction agreement, Skydance has the right to approve material contracts.' South Park first debuted on Comedy Central on Aug. 13, 1997. The season 26 finale episode 'Spring Break' aired on Mar. 29, 2023, with three specials following between October 2023 and May 2024.
