Son Heung-min Breaks Down During Emotional Farewell In His Final Game For Spurs: WATCH
Son Heung-min bid an emotional farewell to Tottenham in South Korea after a decade. Spurs' pre-season friendly against Newcastle ended 1-1, overshadowed by Son's send-off.
An emotional chapter came to a close on Sunday evening as Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min bid farewell to the club in his homeland of South Korea.
The 33-year-old forward, who confirmed this weekend that he will leave Spurs after a decade of service, was visibly moved during his send-off at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
The pre-season friendly between Spurs and Newcastle United ended in a 1-1 draw, but the result was a footnote to the outpouring of love and gratitude for Son from teammates, opponents, and the 65,000 fans in attendance.

Son started the match and played 65 minutes in what may have been his final appearance for Tottenham. Although he didn't find the back of the net, his presence alone electrified the crowd, many of whom came draped in South Korean colors and Spurs kits bearing his name.
His teammates looked determined to give him a farewell goal—repeatedly feeding him the ball early in the match—but Son was caught offside twice and struggled to make a decisive impact. When he was substituted for Mohammed Kudus midway through the second half, he left the field in tears to a thunderous ovation, embracing teammates and even Newcastle players before taking his seat on the bench.
'An Unforgettable Day"
'I didn't think I was going to cry at first," Son admitted afterward. 'But after hearing a few words from my teammates, leaving the club I've spent so much time with felt really tough."
'I felt really, really happy playing this match. Thanks to my fans, my teammates, and also my opponents, I've had an unforgettable day."
Son declined to confirm where he will play next season, although he has been strongly linked with Major League Soccer's Los Angeles FC. 'Nothing has been finalised," he said.
A Goal and a Tribute
Tottenham's Brennan Johnson opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a well-placed right-footed strike—and celebrated with Son's trademark camera pose in tribute to the departing captain.
Newcastle equalised in the 38th minute through Harvey Barnes, whose shot bounced in off the post past goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
Son, who joined Tottenham in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen, has become one of the most beloved players in the club's modern era, with over 350 appearances and 160+ goals to his name. He is also South Korea's all-time leading scorer and national team captain.

Manchester United, Newcastle United Make Bids For RB Leipzig Striker Benjamin Sesko: Reports
Premier League sides Manchester United and Newcastle have both placed competing bids for in-demand RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, German tabloid Bild reported Tuesday. The German tabloid said the Red Devils made an initial bid of 85 million euros (£73.9 million) on Tuesday for the 22-year-old centre forward. Newcastle had offered a reported 80 million euros for the striker on Saturday, upping that to 85 million with bonuses on Monday. The Slovenia striker scored 13 goals and laid on five assists in a disappointing league campaign for Leipzig last season. He has scored 16 times in 41 appearances at international level. Sesko was stood down from Saturday's home friendly against Serie A side Atalanta, won 2-1 by the visitors due to a potential transfer. Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schaefer confirmed this, saying Sesko would not play "due to the very concrete interests from several clubs." United are rebuilding after their worst top-flight campaign in 51 years, along with defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final. United were toothless in attack and have already brought in forwards Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in the summer window. Sesko's arrival could push under-pressure striker Rasmus Hojlund towards the exit, with reports emerging United could sell the Denmark forward for 35 million euros, less than half of what they paid to bring him from Atalanta in 2023. Newcastle qualified for the Champions League with a fifth-placed finish last season but are reportedly in danger of losing striker Alexander Isak to Premier League champions Liverpool.

Son Heung-Min Set To Join MLS Club, Will Play For...
Last Updated: The South Korean international is expected to join a Major League Soccer club after bidding farewell to Tottenham Hotspur last week. Son Heung-Min, the South Korean international, is reportedly set to join Major League Soccer (MLS) after announcing his departure from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur last week. The 33-year-old is expected to sign with MLS club Los Angeles FC, according to ESPN, with a formal announcement scheduled for Wednesday (August 6). Quoting sources, the publication reported that Son will join the Los Angeles team for a fee of around $26 million, following his 10-year tenure with Spurs. Upon leaving Spurs, the seasoned forward did not reveal his next destination, but it is now being widely reported he has inked a deal with the American club. The fee would make Son the breakout star of the MLS, surpassing Atlanta United FC's $22 million signing of Emmanuel Latte Lath last winter. In his final appearance for Spurs, Son played against Newcastle United in a 1-1 friendly match in Seoul on Sunday, August 3. He received a standing ovation and a guard of honour from both sets of players when substituted in the second half. 'It was a perfect moment. Sharing these beautiful moments is something that I will never forget and I will always appreciate it — from the fans, the players and the gaffer. He understood my situation and was always on my side. He always listened to me and asked what I wanted to do. I have huge respect and am very grateful," he said. LAFC appears to have outbid a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad to secure the player. Son joined Spurs in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen and became only the seventh player to reach 450 appearances for the club, including winning his first trophy when they famously defeated Manchester United in the Europa League final earlier this year. During his Spurs career, Son scored 198 goals and played a crucial role in the club's success. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Chinese club Shandong Taishan given two-year ban from Asian club competition after no-show
Chinese club Shandong Taishan has been banned from Asian club competition for two years for its no-show against South Korean side Ulsan HD in the Asian Champions League (ACL) Elite in February. The Chinese Super League side pulled out hours before the February 19 match, blaming 'serious physical discomfort' of players and saying it was unable to form a team. The Asian Football Confederation's (AFC) Disciplinary and Ethics Commission said Shandong would not be able to play in the AFC's club competitions up to and including the 2026/27 season editions, and fined the club USD 50,000. ALSO READ | Son Heung-Min agrees terms with MLS club Los Angeles FC: Reports It also ordered Shandong to return a participation fee of USD 600,000 and a performance bonus of USD 200,000 to the AFC, along with compensation of USD 40,000 to Ulsan 'in respect of damages and losses claimed' by the South Korean club. Shandong's pull-out came days after the club said it had banned supporters for 'inappropriate behaviour' during a home ACL match against South Korean team Gwangju after fans in the crowd displayed images of South Korea's last military dictator, Chun Doo-hwan. Hundreds of people are estimated to have died or gone missing when the South Korean government violently put down the Gwangju uprising by pro-democracy protesters in May 1980, when Chun was the de facto leader of the country after leading a military coup.
