Woman and three teenagers arrested after M&S, Co-op and Harrods cyber attacks
Four people have been arrested after a wave of cyber attacks struck Marks & Spencer, Co-op and Harrods this year. A woman and three teenagers were arrested early yesterday morning on suspicion of blackmail, money laundering, offences linked to the Computer Misuse Act and participating in the activities of an organised crime group. The arrests included a British man, 17, from the West Midlands, a Latvian man, 19, from the West Midlands, a British man, 19, from London and a 20-year-old British woman from Staffordshire. M&S was hit by a 'highly sophisticated' cyber breach that crippled operations over the Easter weekend. Food deliveries, click and collect services and online orders were upended for weeks, while M&S stocks spiralled. Paul Foster, head of the National Crime Agency's (NCA) National Cyber Crime Unit, said: 'Since these attacks took place, specialist NCA cybercrime investigators have been working at pace and the investigation remains one of the agency's highest priorities. 'Today's arrests are a significant step in that investigation, but our work continues, alongside partners in the UK and overseas, to ensure those responsible are identified and brought to justice.' Lawyer ‘killed himself' after defending ‘worst paedophile who ever lived'
The lawyer who defended 'the worst mass paedophile who has ever lived' has died in an apparent suicide, a prosecutor has said. Maxime Tessier, 34, defended Joel Le Scouarnec, 74, dubbed 'the devil in a white coat' who raped hundreds of patients under the age of 15 between 1989 and 2014. They are made up of 158 men and 141 women who had an average age of 11 when they were allegedly attacked in hospitals across the country. Lawyer Maxime has since been found dead, with chief prosecutor Frederic Teillet, from the western French city of Rennes, saying: 'Everything points to suicide.' Maxime was one of two lawyers who defended the rapist, who is considered one of the most notorious in criminal history. His associate Catherine Glon said he 'had a very high regard for justice and was therefore very demanding towards himself'. Le Scouarnec usually attacked his victims, with the youngest being just four, while they were under the effects of anaesthesia. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison, but many of his victims said he should be jailed for longer. Thomas Delaby, a barrister representing one of his victims, described Le Scouarnec as an 'atomic bomb of paedophilia'. He added: 'Your victims will never forgive you.' He was put on trial this year after police found evidence, including child sized sex dolls chained up in his home and thousands of child abuse images. Back in 2005, he was handed a suspended four-month prison sentence for possessing child pornography, but managed to secure a job as a surgeon at a public hospital in Quimperle, western France, the following year. He continued to work in public hospitals until his re-arrest 12 years later on suspicion of raping his six-year-old neighbour. He abused young patients across 10 hospitals and clinics over the span of 25 years. More Trending She told her parents that 'the man with a crown of white hair' had exposed himself and sexually touched her through a broken garden fence. Police searched his home, uncovering a cache of dolls, wigs and 300,000 pictures and 650 paedophilic, zoophilic and scatological videos. Notebooks where Le Scouarnec detailed his sexual assaults on scores of patients were also found. In one handwritten note hidden under a mattress, the doctor is alleged to have written: 'I am a paedophile and I always will be.' Putin continues to ignore Trump by unleashing 10-hour missile onslaught on Kyiv
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The Ukrainian capital has been battered overnight by major Russian missile and drone strikes lasting 10 hours. Two women, a 68-year-old and a 22-year-old police corporal, were killed during Putin's latest onslaught against Ukraine. The Kremlin doesn't appear to be letting up after unleashing its heaviest bombardment of Ukraine in the war so far on Tuesday night, sending more than 700 drones and missiles at several targets. It comes days after Donald Trump said he would send more weapons to Ukraine while Vladimir Putin continues to reject ceasefire talks. The US president has complained of Putin's 'bulls***' during previous ceasefire talks, and earlier this week leaked audio from 2024 of Trump boasting he would 'bomb the s*** out of Moscow' if Putin invaded Ukraine was released. Kyiv has been left shrouded in toxic smoke this morning after the relentless drone strikes destroyed buildings, ripped up roads and damaged homes, setting several fires across the city. Residents have been ordered to close their windows and avoid going outside while firefighters try to tackle the fires raging in multiple districts. Got a story?
