Samruddhi toll plaza employee injured after colleague accidentally fires illegal firearm

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A toll plaza employee was seriously injured on Friday after he was accidentally shot by his colleague, who was flaunting an illegal firearm. The incident occurred late on Friday at exit point 16 near Babhulgaon Sawangi, on the Samruddhi expressway, where both the contractual employees were on duty. Vinay Kumar Rathod, the superintendent of police of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Rural), said, "The incident is serious, and we are probing it from all angles. Considering the VIP movement and the use of this super expressway by eminent people from across the country, toll plaza workers possessing a firearm illegally is of great concern." The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect did not have a weapon licence issued in his name, leading police to conclude that the firearm was illegal. Police said the suspect, identified as Karan Bhalerao, reportedly possessed an illegal firearm and invited his colleague Bharat Ghadole to the toll plaza's employee restroom. "The victim said it was while showing off the firearm that the suspect accidentally fired the bullet, which hit him in the back," Phulambri police station inspector Sanjay Sahane told TOI. Police initially suspected a clash between the two, but the preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting was not the result of a dispute. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo "Instead, it occurred while Bhalerao was allegedly flaunting the weapon in a confined space. The bullet struck Ghadole in the back, causing him serious injuries and profuse bleeding. Other employees present at the toll plaza, with the help of others, immediately took him to the govt medical college and hospital, where he is currently recuperating. " Bhalerao, meanwhile, had fled the scene with the weapon. "The accused is on the run, and two separate police teams have been formed to track him down," Sahane added. Both the victim and the accused were contractual employees of the company operating the toll plaza on the expressway. Phulambri police have registered a case against Bhalerao under section 110B of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to commit culpable homicide. Additionally, relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act have been invoked against him for possession and misuse of an illegal weapon. As of late Saturday, the accused remains at large, and search operations are ongoing.

Lawyer-guard clash sparks protests at Palani temple

Dindigul: A quarrel between a woman lawyer and a temple security guard over seating in the winch train at the Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple at Palani in Dindigul on Friday night escalated into large-scale protests and service disruptions on Saturday, causing inconvenience to devotees. The incident began when Radha (name changed), a lawyer from Ganapathy Nagar, and her family of six were waiting in line to board the winch train to the hill shrine. Due to space constraints, the temple security guard, identified as Madurai Veeran, reportedly told her that only a few members could travel at a time, and others would have to follow on the next trip. This led to an argument between the two, after which the lawyer proceeded to the temple. However, on her return, Radha gathered fellow lawyers and held a protest near the winch train station, alleging that she had been assaulted and humiliated by the guard. Police intervened and took Veeran for inquiry. Based on her complaint, a case was registered against him under sections relating to assault and intent to outrage modesty. Following his arrest, more than 100 temple security staff boycotted duties and staged a sit-in protest in front of the Adivaram police station on Saturday. They demanded action against the lawyer for allegedly attacking the guard. Key temple services—including ticket counters, winch train, battery cars, and even Panchamirtham sales—were halted temporarily, affecting devotees as police held talks with the protesters. Dindigul district superintendent of police A Pradeep told TOI that based on complaints given by both parties, two cases have been registered separately and investigation was on. So far, no arrests have been made.

Varanasi: Jaunpur SP Kaustubh on Friday late night suspended three policemen, including Mungra Badshahpur police station in charge, while a revenue officer faced similar action directed by district magistrate.
