Engr, doc's son & BCom grad caught with drugs
Nagpur: In a crime that defies stereotypes, three young men from educated and privileged backgrounds were busted early Wednesday at Powergrid Chowk under Kapil Nagar police station limits, with mephedrone (MD) drugs and luxury gadgets worth over Rs10 lakh.
The arrests were made following a pre-dawn trap laid by Kapil Nagar police.
Kapil Nagar police station senior PI Satish Ade told TOI, "Acting on a tip-off, we laid a trap and at around 4.30am apprehended the trio. Two more suspects are absconding, and we're digging deeper to uncover whether a larger network is involved."
The accused — Priyanshu Shukla (23), a BCom graduate, Abhishek Bhawarkar (25), a BE graduate, and Ansh (22), son of an MBBS doctor and a restaurant owner — were found in possession of synthetic drug powder, high-end mobile phones, and a four-wheeler, police said.
Police said Priyanshu was caught with 4.25 grams of suspected mephedrone valued at Rs42,500.
The police have also seized high-end mobile phones and a four-wheeler bearing MP registration number, together worth Rs8.25 lakh.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of DCP Niketan Kadam and ACP Satyavirkumar Bandiwar. A case was filed under sections 8(a), 22(b), and 29 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
