A woman has died after a freight train collided with a family car, leaving three children and a man injured.
The collision occurred about 2pm on Wednesday at a level crossing on Redmond-Hay River Road, in the Albany suburb of Redmond in Western Australia 's south.
Emergency services rushed to the scene where a woman aged in her thirties remained trapped in the vehicle with critical injuries.
The other passengers - a man in his thirties and three children aged under 10 years - were all taken to Albany Health Campus with non-life threatening injuries.
Two men aboard the freight train were also treated for shock.
Witnesses said the train sounded its horn before colliding with the car, which it pushed for about 30 to 40 metres before both came to a stop, the ABC reported.
Officers reportedly told witnesses both the road and train lines would remain closed to traffic until major crash detectives conducted their assessments.
A number of Albany Fire and Rescue vehicles and St John Ambulance crews attended the scene along with local police.
A rescue helicopter was dispatched to the scene but was called back shortly after.
Officers from the Major Crash Squad are travelling to Albany from Perth to investigate the incident.
Great Southern Police Acting Superintended Rhonda Alexander urged anyone with information or footage of the incident to contact police.

Cosby Show star Malcolm-Jamal Warner was swimming with eight-year-old daughter when he drowned

Cosby Show star Malcolm-Jamal Warner was swimming with his eight-year-old daughter when he drowned in Costa Rica. Warner, who as a teenager played Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, died at 54 in an accidental drowning, local authorities said Monday. Two surfers noticed the actor and his daughter struggling in the water and jumped into action, as reported by ABC News. One of the surfers put Warner's daughter on his board and took her to safety, before a volunteer lifeguard also tried to help the actor. Volunteer lifeguard Mike Geist told AZ Family he and another surfer rushed in. The volunteers found Warner below the surface, near the ocean floor, Geist said. The surfer then pulled the actor to the surface and started rescue efforts. When Warner did not respond, they pulled him from the water and got additional help. 'There were two doctors that were also here just on vacation,' Geist said. 'Between the three of them, they were able to perform CPR for more than 30 minutes, probably more like 45 minutes, and unfortunately, it was not successful.' Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Department said Warner drowned Sunday afternoon on a beach on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast. He was swimming at Playa Cocles in Limon province when a current pulled him deeper into the ocean. Local officials ruled Warner's cause of death as asphyxiation by submersion. Following Warner's shock death, lifeguards from Playa Grande — a beach community located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica — released a statement saying they were not present due to lack of 'resources.' 'We deeply regret the passing of Malcolm-Jamal Warner at Playa Grande. He was swept away by a strong rip current and died by drowning,' the Caribbean Guard, Costa Rica's volunteer lifeguard association, shared via Facebook on Monday. 'It all happened very quickly, and although there were people on the beach who entered the water to rescue him, they did not arrive in time.' 'He was pulled from underwater without vital signs, and despite CPR maneuvers being performed on the beach, resuscitation was unsuccessful.' The Guard added that Playa Grande is one of their 'most challenging beaches,' noting the presence of signs in English and Spanish that warn of the 'danger of death due to drowning.' Warner worked for more than 40 years as an actor and director, also starring in the sitcoms Malcolm & Eddie and Read Between the Lines, and in the medical drama The Resident. His final credits came in TV guest roles, including a dramatic four-episode arc last year on the network procedural 9-1-1, where he played a nurse who was a long-term survivor of a terrible fire. Warner played Theo Huxtable for eight seasons, appearing in each of the 197 episodes of The Cosby Show and earning an Emmy nomination for supporting actor in a comedy in 1986. The actor created many TV moments etched in the memories of Generation X children and their parents, including a pilot-episode argument with Cosby about grades and careers, and another episode where Theo tries in vain to hide his ear piercing from his dad. Theo was the only son among four daughters in the household of Cosby's Cliff Huxtable and Phylicia Rashad's Clair Huxtable on the NBC sitcom, and he would be one of the prime representations of American teenage life and Black boyhood on a show that was the most popular in America for much of its run from 1984 to 1992. Warner is survived by his wife and young daughter, born in 2017. Their identities have not been revealed.

Boy, 2, horrifically-injured after father took him on theme park rollercoaster ride in Uruguay

A two-year-old boy was seriously injured after his father took him on a roller coaster in Uruguay. The incident took place Saturday when the Gusano Manzana [Apple Worm] ride turned a corner at the Parque Rodó amusement park in the capital city of Montevideo. The child, whose name was not released, was sitting on the lap of his 67-year-old father before he crashed to the ground. Video footage filmed by a man accompanying his son showed the boy's father stand up from the seat and look down. The concerned father then disappears from the view of the camera before the man who was recording the ride said, 'Oh, a person fell.' The ride then came to a full stop and a woman could be heard in the background shouting, 'Stop, stop, a child fell.' Alejandro Montero, an off-duty nurse who was visiting the park with his family, was the first person who rushed to help the child and his father. 'I saw this person on the floor trying to get up, which he couldn't, and there was someone else watching him,' Montero told Teledoce television. 'I went in, approached this man, and the first thing I did was immobilize him. It was the right thing to do as a healthcare professional. It was a fall of [nine or 13 feet] and I didn't know if he had lost consciousness or not.' Both were rushed to a local hospital, where the child was treated for a fractured skull and remains hospitalized. His father suffered multiple fractures and underwent surgery. The Montevideo prosecutor's office told El Observador newspaper on Wednesday that the boy has been healing well and could be discharged in the next couple of days. The rollercoaster was suspended by the city as part of an investigation. Alex, one of the workers at Parque Rodo, told local television station Channel 10 that the boy's father was warned that the child could not sit on his lap before they took their spot on the Gusano Manzana. 'The adult is told that the child cannot be on the lap, it seems that once the ride is started, he puts the child back on the lap, without safety measures,' Alex said. He explained that the ride does not feature an emergency brake system. 'If you get in and yell at me: brake for me, I can't brake it,' he said.
