Rachel Riley's life including first marriage, Strictly romance and TV feud

Daily Mirror8 hours ago
Rachel Riley has been a recognisable TV personality for over 10 years and she's about to take on her biggest challenge on ITV's Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters
Rachel Riley is an English TV presenter, who is best known for co-hosting Channel 4's daytime puzzle show, Countdown.
The mathematics graduate also appears on the show's popular comedy spin-off, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

Rachel, who was born in Rochford and raised in Southend-on-Sea, first joined Countdown at the age of 22 following encouragement from her mum in 2008.

Her interest in maths and science has also led her to appear on The Gadget Show on Channel 5, ITV's It's Not Rocket Science and Sky Sports ' Friday Night Football.
Now, let's take a look at Rachel's life away from the popular Channel 4 gameshow as she joins the cast of Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters on ITV1.
Who was Rachel Riley first married to?

Rachel married millionaire businessman Jamie Gilbert in 2012. The pair met while they were both studying at the University of Oxford.
They briefly called time on their relationship in 2009, before rekindling their romance in 2011 and settling down in Essex.
Rachel and Jamie separated after 16 months, with the couple announcing their divorce while Rachel was competing in the 2013 season of Strictly Come Dancing.

Rachel later explained that her various TV commitments ended up taking a toll on their short marriage.
"At that time, I was doing Countdown and The Gadget Show, so I was living in Essex, I was filming in Birmingham and in Salford, and then filming Strictly in Borehamwood, with a bit of It Takes Two in London," she told GQ at the time.

"I was getting three hours' sleep a night, trying to fit in all these things... All you want to do at that time is the dancing because you know you've got to do this thing in a few days."
The Countdown star went on to explain that Rachel was "still friends" with her ex-husband, adding: "It was the emotional distance that I needed to break away."
Who was Rachel Riley's Strictly romance with?

Rachel found love again with professional dancer Pasha Kovalev, who she was partnered with during her time on Strictly Come Dancing.
The couple got together in 2014, and surprised friends and family with a whirlwind Las Vegas wedding in 2019.
"So, we were never bothered about getting married, but then we just were like 'shall we just get married' once were were having the baby," Rachel previously told the Express.

"And actually, we had such a nice day. It was really lovely. But we only decided the week before."
Rachel and Pasha have since welcomed their two daughters, five-year-old Maven and three-year-old Noa, and often keep fans up to date with their lives via social media.
Who did Rachel Riley have a TV feud with?

Rachel has been rumoured to be in a feud with her former Countdown co-star Anne Robinson.
The Weakest Link star previously revealed that she had quit Countdown over a pay dispute, and insisted on Rachel and Susie Dent's microphones being switched off.
Rachel then ignited feud rumours when she confessed that Anne "might make you cry", and that the show's atmosphere became more fun after Anne had left.

Anne has since denied a fall out between the pair. In May, she told The Telegraph: "It's just a story. Rachel was a bit talkative when I was interviewing the contestants but once we shut her up it was fine."
Rachel quickly responded to Anne's comment, telling The Sun: "If Anne needs to mention me for publicity, then good luck to her. I have the same opinion of her as most people do."
She added: "I don't pay any attention to what she says."
Countdown is available to stream on Channel 4 and Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters kicks off on ITV1 and ITVX on Monday, July 14 at 9pm

Ant and Dec teen drama Byker Grove to return to screens in ITV streaming deal

The teen drama, which ran between 1989 and 2006 on BBC One, is currently available to watch for free on STV Player and will be made available on ITVX later this year. Craig Morris, managing editor of ITV Channels and ITVX, said: 'We are so excited to bring this iconic coming-of-age series to ITVX, marking the first TV appearances of two ITV stalwarts. 'Relive all the great moments with us later this year.' The show also launched the careers of actors Jill Halfpenny and Donna Air, and followed the lives and relationships of young people at a youth club called the Grove in the Byker area of Newcastle. Byker Grove was known for tackling social issues, such as drug addiction, child abuse, homophobia and abortion, and in 1994, the series featured what is thought to be the first gay kiss on UK children's TV, when character Noddy Fishwick kissed Gary Hendrix at the back of a cinema. McPartlin and Donnelly played PJ and Duncan respectively in the series, and went on to enjoy chart success under their characters' names with eight UK top 20 singles, including the number one Let's Get Ready To Rhumble. The show was also the starting point for former writer Catherine Johnson, who went on to pen hit musical Mamma Mia!, and Tom Hooper, who directed episodes of the show in 1997 and went on to win an Oscar for best director for his work on The King's Speech. The show being made available for streaming comes as part of a deal with McPartlin and Donnelly's production company Mitre Studios, which owns the rights to the series. As well as hosting ITV talent show Britain's Got Talent, the pair have also presented I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and Ant And Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway since leaving Byker Grove.

What is Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters? All you need to know

A brand new death-defying reality series begins on Monday night, with Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters premiering at 9pm on ITV. If you've ever wondered what it would be like to watch big-name celebrities like Helen George, Lucy Punch and Rachel Riley share the sea with a bunch of sharks, then look no further. The six-part series will see seven celebrities pushed to the limit as they face one of humanity's biggest fears, all while trying to help dispel the stigma surrounding the prehistoric creatures. The Bahamas might be a luxury holiday destination, but they're also home to more than 40 different species of shark, earning it the title of 'Shark Capital of the World'. The famous faces jetting off to The Bahamas will be getting help from the show's shark experts, but they will still have to face parts of the challenge alone. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Sir Lenny Henry is perhaps the biggest name in the Shark! Celebrity Infest Waters cast list, with the veteran comedian and TV presenter, 66, ready to take on the challenge. Speaking about signing up (via Radio Times), he said: 'I didn't have that cartoon special effect where my eyeballs jumped out of my head. I considered it and thought, 'Actually, I'd love to do that.'' McFly bassist and I'm A Celeb winner Dougie Poynter, 37, who's joining Sir Lenny in The Bahamas, told Metro and other media that the show left no room for any 'egos' in the camp. 'We supported each other while doing something so dangerous,' he said. 'There was no room for ego. We had a buddy systemit was literally our job to make sure our gear was on right, and our mates' gear.' Despite the ITV show's intense premise, Rachel Riley, 39, told us that the series is 'warm and funny' and promised viewers that, while the series has a message, nothing would be 'rammed down your throat'. However, the Countdown star also revealed the danger that the celebrities put themselves into: 'It's mentioned in the programme there was a fatality in [the place we were swimming through] in 2024.' TV and film star Lucy Punch, 47, said that, while 'traditional wildlife shows preach to the converted', the family focus of Shark' Celebrity Infested Waters will 'bring in a whole new audience'. Comedian and actor Ross Noble, 49, concurred with Dougie and Lucy, saying that the entire cast 'just got on' with one another, adding to the family spirit of the show. Speaking to Metro, CBBC presenter and wheelchair basketball star Ade Adepitan, 52, called Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters a 'genuine once-in-a-lifetime experience'. 'I feel I could travel and spend all my life going around meeting people – and very, very few of them would be able to say they've swum with tiger sharks.' However, he revealed that watching Steven Spielberg's classic shark attack film Jaws before he was a teenager might have been a little bit of a mistake. 'I watched Jaws when I was nine years old but I shouldn't have watched it. If someone had told me back then that decades later I would be diving with sharks… even when I hear [the Jaws music] my blood pressure goes up.' Celebrity number seven, 41-year-old actress Helen George, said that taking part in the reality show was an 'incredible experience' after pushing herself to confront her fear of swimming. The Call the Midwife star told Metro and other media 'I was terrified of putting my head underwater. I have a real deep-rooted fear. I used to love the water when I was really young, but I went to a swimming party when I was six. 'They put those weird 90s foam mats down. They're massive yoga mats, really. I just remember this moment of being stuck underneath one and not being able to get out. There was that fear of being trapped.' She continued: 'From then, I got it in my head about not putting my head underwater… The mats were on top, and no one knew I was down there.' While Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters will focus on seven celebrities swimming with sharks, producers of the show hope that viewers will learn a few lessons as well. The celebrities will be accompanied in their challenges by shark scientist Dr. Tristan Guttridge, marine biologist Danni Washington, and shark-attack survivor Paul de Gelder. 'Coinciding with the 50th Anniversary of Jaws, the show will challenge ocean-fearing celebrities to face nature's most terrifying underwater predator – sharks,' ITV previously said about the show. More Trending The producers explained: 'With the 50th anniversary of Jaws acting as a timely cultural touchpoint, the series sets out to reframe the shark narrative – from fear and sensationalism to fascination and conservation. 'Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters has a dual mission: deliver thrilling entertainment while deepening public understanding of sharks and their fragile ecosystems.' ITV is aiming for their latest celebrity shark swimming reality show to be more serious than the 2005 show Celebrity Shark Bait, which saw four celebrities face sharks in South Africa. Tasha Ghouri hands on with new YouTuber boyfriend after fallout with ex Andrew

Former Love Island and Strictly Come Dancing star Tasha Ghouri has clearly moved on from Andrew Le Page as she goes public with her new man at Fearne Cotton's Happy Place festival Reality TV star Tasha Ghouri looked very much besotted with her new man as they shared a hug in public. The former Love Island star went public with Cam Whitnall, who is the managing director of The Big Cat Sanctuary. The duo were seen also holding hands on a sweet day out at Fearne Cotton's Happy Place festival at Gunnersbury Park. Tasha was wearing a short white dress with black cowgirl boots, complete with tassels. ‌ Cam opted for an all back outfit and white Nike trainers. There was no hiding their connection as they walked hand in hand and wrapped their arms around each other. ‌ It's said Tasha initially fell for Cam due to his drive and ambition in his career. It's thought the duo have been dating for a little over a month. A source told The Sun, who also obtained the images of the pair: "She met him after moving close to where he lives and they connected on social media. They were all over each other at the Happy Place Festival where Tasha was giving a talk." ‌ They added: "Cam was in the audience and was grinning at her as she spoke with Fearne. It's clear there's a real spark between them." The new relationship comes after Love Island pair Tasha and Andrew Le Page called it quits. Despite the initial amicable break up, tension has boiled over at times. In recent social media posts, the pair both expressed their wish to "move on" from their time together. In separate statements shared on their Instagram stories at the weekend, the exes cooled any rumours of a feud. ‌ Tasha discussed her split from Andrew and he later slammed her in a Snapchat post in response. In her own post, Tasha said: "I just want to address recent hurtful comments about me & Andrew. "We've always been open about who we are and what we went through, the hate and harsh words have been unfair and overwhelming for both of us. No one deserves to be torn down, especially when they're already trying to heal. "We've both made mistakes, we've both learned, and we've both grown. But the judgement and cruelty we are facing from people online has been hard. Please remember that behind every nasty post, every comment, every story, there are real people with real emotions. Always be kind. I want us both to happy and I wish him nothing but the best". [sic] ‌ In a separate post, Andrew said: "Tasha and I want to address the noise around out breakup, as there's been hate going around that neither of us ever wanted. Things were said on both sides, but at the end of the day, no relationship is perfect, but ours still had some incredible moments I'll always be grateful for. "I truly just want us both to move on and be happy. Wishing Tasha nothing but the best, and I'll always be proud of her." Andrew previously took to his Snapchat to write: "Wasn't gonna speak about it all. However, the girl can't keep my name out her mouth even thought she's got a new boyfriend. The truth is... She went on Raya while we were still together... Oops. No one is perfect in a relationship but you keep talking s**t about me, I'll start talking. She did one too many podcasts unfortunately. This is your closure chat."
