‘Emily in Paris' Creator Darren Star Explains Why He Wrote Camille Off the Show

Elle24-06-2025
Although production on Emily in Paris season 5 is ongoing in Paris, one familiar face isn't on set. Camille Razat, who has been part of the show since its first season, left the series. Her character, Camille, was the on-off girlfriend of Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), Emily's (Lily Collins) major love interest. As such, Camille served as an occasional friend and rival to Emily throughout the series.
In a new interview with Deadline, Emily in Paris creator Darren Star explained why Camille was written off the show. 'I think her story kind of had a natural finish,' he said.
Indeed it did: Camille's story ended neatly in season 4, with her deciding to pursue becoming a parent after having a false pregnancy with Gabriel, whom she almost married.
Razat revealed on Instagram that Camille's exit was by design, as she was ready to part ways from the Netflix show. The French actress wrote about her next projects and touched on whether there was a chance Camille could be back later in Emily's journey.
Razat wrote:
Razat's Emily in Paris co-stars all left supportive messages on her Instagram.
Collins wrote, 'Love you sister. It's been a wild ride and an absolute pleasure. You're a rockstar. So proud of you ❤️'
Bravo wrote a French message to his co-star: 'Ma sœur 🤍' ('My sister' in English)
Ashley Park (Mindy) added, 'love you so much, always proud of you ❤️'
Lucien Laviscount (Alfie) touched on their friendship, writing, 'From day one you've been my rider on this show. Your passion for story telling, your dark sense of humour, your unwavering ability to stay true to yourself, when everything's pushing you in a different direction. You're special Camille and I feel absolutely honoured to of been able to dance with you these past seasons. Keep on shining. I'm going to miss laughing with you. I'm cheering you on in everything you do 🥂'
Philippine Leroy Beaulieu (Sylvie) commented, 'You'll be so missed ma chérie Frenchie!!! ❤️'
And Bruno Gouery (Luc) summed up all their feelings with a simple 'We'll miss you … 💕💐'

BBC radio available outside UK after Sounds switch-off

The BBC has said its radio stations will continue to be available for people outside the UK to listen to live after BBC Sounds access is restricted for international listeners. BBC Sounds will close for listeners outside the UK on 21 July 2025. International listeners will be able to listen to the BBC's radio stations through links on the station directory online, the BBC said. This includes the BBC's national stations - BBC Radio 1, Radio 2, and Radio 3, 6Music, 1Xtra and Asian Network, Radio 4Xtra and 5Live - all the stations in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales and every local radio station in England. The BBC announced in April that it had delayed blocking BBC Sounds app for audiences outside the UK. That delay came after a decision made by the corporation meant listeners outside the UK would only be able to access Radio 4 and the World Service via a new audio section on the BBC website. Questions had been asked about what this would mean for listeners in the Republic of Ireland who would be unable to use the internet to access Northern Ireland-based stations BBC Radio Ulster and Radio Foyle. The BBC said listening to BBC audio programming on non-BBC platforms would not be affected by the change. It also said a range of English, Welsh and Gaelic language podcasts were available on and third-party podcast services. BBC Sounds is the online home of BBC radio. People can listen to live radio streams, on demand programmes, podcasts, audiobooks and music mixes. It can be accessed via the Sounds website or its dedicated app. People can also listen on many smart speakers and internet radio devices. The BBC said UK users who went on holiday outside the UK for a short time would still be able to use the BBC Sounds app. A BBC spokesperson said: "BBC Sounds will now be available on the same basis as BBC iPlayer. "Both services are restricted to a UK domestic audience, reflecting rights and associated considerations. "BBC Radio Ulster/Foyle will remain more widely available via

Netflix's New Releases Coming in July 2025

The return of Charlize Theron's band of immortals; another behind the scenes glimpse at the lives of NFL quarterbacks; a brand-new music talent series featuring one of Liam Payne's final TV appearances; the conclusion of The Sandman's story; a potential breakout Korean thriller; and the long-awaited return of Happy Gilmore are some of the highlights among the new films and series hitting Netflix in July. One of Netflix's big movie plays for July is the sequel to its very silly but very fun action fantasy film The Old Guard. Debuting on July 2, the Victoria Mahoney-directed film once again sees Charlize Theron playing Andromache of Scythia, aka Andy, the leader of a band of vigilante immortals. In The Old Guard 2, following on from the climax of the first film, Andy must come to terms with her newfound mortality while preparing to face a mysterious foe (played by Uma Thurman). The cast includes returnees KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and newcomers Thurman and Henry Golding. More from The Hollywood Reporter Netflix to Add NASA+ as It Launches Into Live Streaming Feeds 'Squid Game' Creator Weighs in on American Spinoff Reports and Explains That Surprise Cameo Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest Fall in Love Abroad in 'My Oxford Year' Trailer Quarterback, the sports docuseries, is back for its second season this month, debuting on July 8. The show, produced by Netflix in partnership with NFL Films, 2PM Productions, and Peyton Manning's Omaha Productions, is in the vein of the streamer's phenomenally successful Drive to Survive docuseries. Season one of Quarterback followed Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota through the 2022 season. Season two will see Cousins return, this time as a member of the Atlanta Falcons, with Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals and Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions. On July 9, Netflix debuts its new music competition series, Building the Band. The show was notably the last television appearance of the late One Direction singer Liam Payne, who died tragically in October 2024. Before his death, Payne recorded episodes as a guest judge on the series that is hosted by Backstreet Boys' AJ McLean, with Nicole Scherzinger (The Pussycat Dolls) serving as mentor-judge and Destiny's Child's Kelly Rowland also serving as a guest judge. Following Payne's death, the show's producers and Payne's family were weighing his inclusion in the series. Ultimately, they have decided to move forward with Payne remaining in the show. Launching in three parts over the month of July is the second and final season of The Sandman, the fantasy series adaptation of Neil Gaiman's iconic graphic novels. Despite stellar reviews and decent ratings for season one, the followup and indeed the very existence of a second season hung in the balance as Gaiman was accused of sexual assault by five women in July 2024, and by four more women in January 2025. The second season will conclude the story for Dream (played by Tom Sturridge), the show's central character and part one will debut on July 3, with part two on July 24 with a special episode concluding things on July 31. Season two will feature a number of fan-favorite characters reprising their roles, including Mason Alexander Park as Desire, Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer, Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne, and Patton Oswalt as the voice of Matthew the Raven. Jenna Coleman, Donna Preston, Esmé Creed-Miles, Adrian Lester, Barry Sloane, Ferdinand Kingsley, Stephen Fry, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Razane Jammal, Ruairi O'Connor, Freddie Fox, Clive Russell, Laurence O'Fuarain, Ann Skelly, Douglas Booth, Jack Gleeson, Indya Moore, and Steve Coogan also appear. A potential breakout film for Netflix this month could be the Korean psychological thriller Wall to Wall, which debuts on July 18. In demand filmmaker Kim Tae-joon, who wrote and directed the disturbing tech thriller Unlocked for the streamer, is back with another feature that is sure to linger with its audience. According to the logline, Wall to Wall is about 'Woo-sung, a financially burdened homeowner who struggles to find sleep and peace in what should be his dream home. When all his neighbors accuse him of being the source of the noise, he sets out to find the source himself and prove his innocence.' The other big Hollywood film release for Netflix in July, and the feature most likely to shoot up the top 10 list and dominate social media, is the sequel to Adam Sandler's classic and endlessly quotable golf comedy Happy Gilmore. The first film, released all the way back in 1996, featured Sandler as a failed hockey player with a knack for booming golf drives, and the Kyle Newacheck-directed sequel sees Happy picking up his clubs once more to pay for his daughter's school fees. As well as Sandler, Julie Bowen, Christopher 'Shooter McGavin' McDonald, and Ben Stiller reprise their roles from the original film while Benny Safdie and Bad Bunny are newcomers. Happy Gilmore 2 debuts on July 25. Movies added to Netflix in July include Blow, Born on the Fourth of July, Captain Phillips, The Deer Hunter, Friday Night Lights, Here Comes the Boom, The Hitman's Bodyguard, The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, Horrible Bosses, The Karate Kid, The Karate Kid, The Karate Kid Part II, The Karate Kid Part III, Mission: Impossible, Mission: Impossible II, Mission: Impossible III, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, The Notebook, Pacific Rim, The Sweetest Thing, Tangerine, V for Vendetta, White Chicks, Jaws, Jaws 2, Jaws 3 and Jaws: The Revenge. Before Saving the Shop in ‘Tires' Season 2, Thomas Haden Church Hadn't Heard of the Show

Planes, Saddles and Automobiles. Thomas Haden Church began his acting career as the lovable airplane mechanic Lowell Mather on the beloved '90s NBC sitcom Wings. As Phil on Netflix comedy Tires season two, he's the one (gently) bossing the grease monkeys around, including his on-screen son Shane Gillis. More from The Hollywood Reporter Netflix Reveals First Look at 'Building The Band' Series, Confirms Liam Payne Guest Judge Role Netflix's Greg Peters on U.S. Tariffs, U.K. Levy Ideas, Why the Streamer Is More Sports Team Than Family 'Fixed': Genndy Tartakovsky's Long-Neutered R-Rated Dog Comedy Finally Gets Unleashed Church is happy to talk about being on both ends of the socket wrench, though really he's at his happiest relaying the cattle count on his Texas ranch. It's all good — I mostly wanted to talk about Tombstone (1993). How aware of were you? Not at all. And I had a connection with an executive at Rough House Pictures, Danny McBride's company (and a Tires production company), because I had another project that they were considering doing like three years ago — something that my partner and I had written. But I got to know this executive Brandon James, and he just reached out to me — it would have been, let's see, probably early September, because I was in London all last summer shooting a film for Netflix. And Brandon reached out to me, and he said, 'Hey, you know, we're doing this show Tires, and we're ramping up for the second season. Would you be interested in playing Shane Gillis' dad?' I knew who Shane was. I thought Shane was hilarious. And so they sent me some scripts and asked me to watch the show, which I did, and I really, really liked it. I really liked the chemistry. I read the scripts and then I jumped on a call with John McKeever and Steve Gerben — two of the guys that created the show with Shane — and we just had a great first meeting. And they just straight-out said, 'Look, dude, if it's going to be you, then we want to build the character of Phil with you — and Shane, obviously — but we all want to do it with you. Not for you, with you.' It was of the highest order of collaboration. I got there two weeks in advance, and every time they had a script meeting, I was there just pitching ideas and listening and really just becoming a cohesive gear in the machine. You came in for season two as Shane's dad, Phil. You dress great, you look great, you buy out Valley Forge Automotive to keep your son and nephew employed — how rich is Phil? He's got the kind of money where he can just show up and be like, 'I want to open half-a-dozen mattress stores, and I want you to manage them.' He's that guy. What was your response when you found out shoots in Westchester, Pennsylvania? That was absolutely a major attractant. I did (HBO's) Divorce for three seasons, but it felt like more than that. I lived in New York for the three seasons that we did, and I vowed that I would never do another TV series in New York. Of course, now that I've said that, it's out in the ether. Now I'm gonna get approached to do a series in New York. But I lived in L.A. for 12 years, and I did two television series in New York. Not terribly long after that, I just moved to Texas and I've been living [there] full time for 24 years now. I sold my house in L.A. in like 2001-2002 and just never looked back. You went back home. Yeah. The very first morning I was in L.A., there was like a 6.0 earthquake, and I was like, 'This is not for me.' As soon as I started working and making money, I almost immediately bought a home in Texas. I had a place in Austin for several years in the '90s, and then I sold that place and bought my ranch out here— we live about an hour from San Antonio, and then my ranch is about 90 minutes, give or take, from San Antonio. It's home. We grew up hunting with my dad, and the very first season of Wings, one of my brothers — who's an attorney in Dallas — was like, 'Do you ever think about deer hunting again?' And I was like, 'Yeah!' He said, 'Why don't we find a place to hunt?' And so we did. We found a ranch to hunt on that's about 20 miles from where I'm sitting right now — that was 35 years ago. And whenever I started hunting again, it just reignited my lifelong dream of owning a real cattle ranch and being a real cattle rancher. And I have been for 26 years. I've kind of downsized because I'm getting older, but I don't know, 10-15 years ago, we had about 400 head, which still not a big operation, but big enough that we were making money at it. You're a real cowboy, like your character Billy Clanton in . It wasn't easy to make that jump from TV in the '90s — especially for the guy who played Lowell — how did that come about? So, in the spring of '93 wings, Northern Exposure, Beverly Hills, 90210 and China Beach were all very popular shows, and when Tombstone was casting. The Disney execs apparently sent down to the producers and the writer/director some kind of a note that they wanted the movie to cast some television actors, and that's what they did. And they cast John Corbett (Northern Exposure), they cast Jason Priestley (Beverly Hills, 90210), myself (Wings), and Dana Delany (China Beach), and that's how I got into my first film. Well, I say Tombstone was my first film, but I had done a TV movie. It wasn't supposed to be a TV movie, but it ended up being a TV movie. I was working with Sam on (the TV movie) and we really hit it off. We were shooting one night, and I had gone in and met with with the [Tombstone] screenwriter Kevin Jarre and the director (George P. Cosmatos). It was just a meeting, it wasn't even an audition. We just talked about the Civil War, because I loved Glory (1989), which he wrote, and the Old West, because I'm kind of a little bit of an Old West history guy. Then I had to go back out to Palm Springs where we were shooting (the TV movie). That night — we were doing some night work — and Sam and I were standing there, and Sam goes, 'May need to get ya on the back of a horse.' I didn't get it. Again he said, 'May need to get ya on the back of a horse.' 'Oh, shit!' I got it. (Sam Elliott voice) 'Congratulations, Thomas, you deserve it.' And let me tell you something, I went to cowboy school on the back of Sam Elliott. Sam immediately got me with a wrangler friend of his who lived out there in the desert, and I started— every spare minute I had while I was shooting another movie, I would go out riding with this wrangler friend of Sam's. Then after I finished shooting that, Sam had a really good friend in West Texas who had a big ranch, and Sam, he literally told me, goes, 'You're going to go out there and you're going to work as a cowboy for them, because they're doing their their spring roundup — they're marking calves.' And that's what I did. I went out to cowboy on this huge ranch for a month, and then, literally, the day I finished, I drove back to Dallas, and I flew directly from Dallas to Tucson and went to work on Tombstone. When I showed up, I was pretty seasoned in the saddle. But we didn't do a lot of riding in Tombstone, that was always a little bit of a disappointment to me — because we were cowboys. This conversation has been lightly edited and condensed for clarity.
