BJP's Sanjay Jaiswal Hits Back At Tejashwi Yadav Over Sootra Remark, Calls Him ‘Uneducated', Seeks Apology
Reacting strongly to Tejashwi Yadav's dismissal of reports about foreign nationals being found on the voter list, Jaiswal accused the RJD leader of being "uneducated and irresponsible."
'Only Tejashwi Yadav can make such comments about media personnel or any human being in general,' Jaiswal told ANI. 'The problem with Tejashwi Yadav is that he is not educated, which is why the people at his home make him memorise whatever they want, and he just repeats it. But if someone asks him a question outside of that, he will create this kind of mess.'
Demanding a public apology, Jaiswal further said, 'Tejashwi Yadav should publicly apologise, express regret, and take an oath that he will not say anything beyond what he is taught at home.'

The verbal duel intensified after Tejashwi ridiculed reports that Bangladeshi, Nepali, and even Myanmar nationals were listed as voters in Bihar.
"Who are these sources?" Tejashwi asked, mocking the authenticity of the claims. 'These are the same sources that said Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore have been captured.'
He further added sarcastically, 'Ye sootra ko hum mootra samajhte hai.'

Tejashwi also raised questions about the timing and motivation behind the SIR exercise. 'SIR was conducted for the last time in 2003 under the UPA government. Since then, we have seen many elections, including the ones in 2014, 2019, and 2024. In those elections, we lost by three to four lakhs. Does that mean all these foreigners voted for PM Modi? This means that the NDA are at fault for any dubious elements' names getting added to the voter lists.'
Accusing the process of being politically driven, he said, 'That means all the elections they have won have been a fraud... SIR is a complete eyewash. The EC is working as a cell of a political party.'
Earlier, a report by news agency IANS quoted Election Commission officials as saying that their field-level teams had identified a 'large number' of suspected foreign nationals, mainly from Nepal, Bangladesh, and Myanmar, during the ongoing voter list verification.
With Bihar heading into assembly elections later this year, the controversy over the SIR drive and its findings has assumed significant political importance. The process, aimed at cleaning up the electoral rolls, may also influence a broader national conversation on voter roll verification, particularly with an emphasis on individuals' place of birth.

TDP seeks procedural clarity, safeguards against wrongful deletions in electoral roll management
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has submitted a detailed representation to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday, proposing a series of reforms aimed at strengthening electoral roll management and enhancing transparency in the democratic process. Making a significant reference to the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the party emphasised the need for procedural clarity, safeguards against wrongful deletions, and respect for prior voter inclusion. The TDP leaders also suggested that the SIR process should be conducted with sufficient lead time, ideally not within six months of any major election, to ensure confidence and administrative preparedness. Stressing that the exercise should not be conflated with citizenship verification, the party has sought early initiation of the SIR in Andhra Pradesh. In a meeting convened by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar with all parties, TDP Lok Sabha floor leader Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu highlighted Andhra Pradesh's exemplary voter turnout of 81.86% in the 2024 general elections, far exceeding the national average of 65.79%. He urged the ECI to ensure this democratic momentum continues through timely, inclusive, and tech-driven voter roll revisions. In the meeting, TDP leaders, including the party's Andhra Pradesh unit president Palla Srinivasa Rao and MPs participated. The TDP also suggested that Aadhaar-based EPIC number verification would help in removing duplication and replace the ink-based verification process with a biometric verification process. Participation of Parties The TDP suggested that the ECI should mandatorily involve Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from all recognised parties throughout the revision process and make pre-publication sharing of draft rolls with BLAs compulsory to enable real-time verification. The district-wise data on voter additions and deletions should be published with explanations on the ECI portal and a real-time public dashboard for tracking voter grievances and their resolution should be set up, the TDP leaders said. Legal Reforms and Accountability The TDP has also called for stricter accountability of election officials. It suggested to enforce statutory timelines and penalties for inaction or misconduct by EROs or District Election Officers (DEOs), empower the State election watch committees to function with observer status during roll revision, mandatory rotation of Block Level Officers (BLOs)/Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) to prevent local influence or partisan misuse and appoint a State-level Ombudsman under ECI to handle unresolved political grievances related to the electoral rolls. It has also suggested the ECI to conduct targeted re-enrollment campaigns for migrant workers, tribal groups, elderly people, and homeless citizens, and permit temporary address declarations with basic documentation to prevent disenfranchisement of mobile populations.

‘CS nod must for calling DMs for dept meetings'
New Delhi: With the reporting of several instances of district magistrates being called for meetings and inspections by different departments on short notice, divisional commissioner Neeraj Semwal recently issued a circular stating that prior concurrence from the chief secretary was a must before such discussions. While accepting that inter-departmental coordination was essential, Semwal said such frequent and uncoordinated scheduling of meetings was adversely impacting the ability of DMs to perform their core responsibilities, including court work and other quasi-judicial functions, field inspections, grievance redressal, execution and supervision of departmental schemes, law and order functions, and monitoring of district-level developmental and revenue matters. Being the most important cog in the administrative wheel, which stays in direct touch with the public, BJP govt has involved DMs in several key projects. Wherever feasible, DMs should be allowed to participate through videoconferencing, especially in routine review or briefing meetings. "Departments are advised to coordinate among themselves to avoid repetitive meetings on overlapping issues. Consolidated meetings may be encouraged instead of department-specific, fragmented sessions," the circular pointed out. It advised that the departments must give an advance notice of a minimum of 48 hours to DMs for any meeting, which would help them plan their work accordingly or nominate competent officers for the meeting. "The necessity of the physical presence of DM must be clearly justified. If the agenda can be addressed by ADM or other senior officers, departments are encouraged to accept representation at that level," Semwal said.
