Sanjay Raut Asks CM Fadnavis To Probe NCP MLA's ‘Illegal Mining', Royalty Evasion

The Shiv Sena (UBT) MP said Sunil Shelke used government-allotted industrial land for illegal sand and stone mining, causing huge losses to the state exchequer
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has fired a fresh salvo at the Ajit Pawar-led NCP by writing a detailed letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, accusing Pawar's close aide Sunil Shelke of serious misuse of government land and massive royalty evasion worth crores.
In his letter dated June 25, Raut alleged that Shelke, who represents the Maval constituency, used government-allotted industrial land for illegal sand and stone mining, causing huge losses to the state exchequer. According to Raut, Shelke and his relatives extracted minerals from industrial plots in several survey numbers spread over more than 29 hectares in Maval area, but did not pay any statutory royalty for the extracted material.
Raut pointed out that Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) had acquired the said lands under Section 6 of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Act for promoting industrial development. However, instead of using the land for its intended purpose, Shelke allegedly misused it for large-scale mining. Raut has also attached details of land survey numbers and mining quantities in his letter.
The Shiv Sena MP further alleged that Shelke's mining activities have damaged local village roads and caused severe inconvenience to villagers. He questioned why no strict administrative action has been taken despite repeated complaints and media reports.
Highlighting the scale of the alleged scam, Raut stated that royalty worth several thousand crores has been evaded and questioned whether the state government would recover the huge loss. He also accused local officials, including MIDC officers and district administration, of ignoring these illegal activities and demanded an immediate high-level investigation.
Raut concluded by stating that this case is a glaring example of how public land is being looted under the guise of development and demanded that action be taken not just against Shelke but also against the officials who allegedly turned a blind eye to the misuse.
When contacted, Shelke told News18: 'Every morning, Sanjay Raut makes some or the other allegations against leaders. On what basis is he accusing me of evading royalty? What proof has he got against me? Why was he silent when he was with us? All his allegations are baseless and have no substance in them."

'If Marathi Is Disrespected...': Aaditya Thackeray After Mumbai Shop Owner Attacked

Thackeray's response came after a shop owner in Mumbai's Mira Road was attacked by suspected MNS members for speaking in Hindi. After a viral video showed a shop owner being attacked in Mumbai's Mira Road for allegedly refusing to speak Marathi, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray said things would escalate if the state's identity is disrespected. 'We want our mother tongue, Marathi, to be respected, and no language is forcefully imposed. We don't want anybody to take the law into their hands, but when it is the other way round and Marathi or Maharashtra is insulted, things can escalate," Thackeray said. His remarks were in reference to Babulal Khimji Chaudhary (48), the owner of a sweet shop in Mira Road, who was allegedly thrashed by suspected members of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), after his staff responded to them in Hindi. The dispute intensified when Chaudhary mentioned that his employees, being from out of state, weren't proficient in Marathi. When the men allegedly asked him which language is spoken in Maharashtra, Chaudhary replied that all languages are spoken. State Minister Yogesh Kadam also reacted to the incident, saying that while the men should have taken the law into their own hands, people have to speak Marathi in Maharashtra, and if anyone disrespects the language, laws will be enforced against them. 'In Maharashtra, you have to speak Marathi. If you don't know Marathi, your attitude shouldn't be that you won't speak Marathi," he said, adding that those who were upset with the shop owner should have lodged a complaint. An FIR has been registered against seven MNS workers under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the incident. This came after the Maharashtra government rolled back a policy of introducing Hindi as a third language in the school syllabus after heavy backlash. First Published: July 03, 2025, 20:09 IST

Accused of beating up man in Thane, 3 men forced to apologise by Shiv Sena (UBT) workers; Aaditya Thackeray says ‘don't give issue linguistic colour'

A couple of days after the video of a man being beaten up outside the Thane railway station went viral, another video of the three men who were involved in the fight with him apologising to the victim surfaced on Wednesday. The man who was beaten up outside the Thane railway station was identified as Kiran Jadhav, 43. Shiv Sena (UBT) workers took Jadhav to the Thane Civil Hospital for treatment and to the Naupada police station to register the FIR in the matter against the three accused – Shanmukh Pujari, Saurabh Jaiswal, and Jayantilal Purohit. In the second video, the three men, who purportedly do not speak Marathi, are asked to speak in Marathi by Shiv Sena (UBT) workers. This video was reportedly filmed in the presence of former Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Rajan Vichare inside a closed room and shared later. The three accused persons were reportedly brought to an office, told to identify themselves, fall at the feet of Jadhav, and apologise to him on camera. Jadhav can also be seen slapping one of the accused after being nudged by someone. Later in the video, Vichare is heard telling the three men that 'they beat up a Marathi manoos, and this will not work in Maharashtra.' Talking about Monday's assault, a police officer said the FIR was registered on charges of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons. He added that Jadhav went to recharge his SIM card in an inebriated condition. 'When the shopkeeper said they did not have a recharge facility and it must be done online, it led to an argument between the two sides, which resulted in a fight where Jadhav was beaten up,' the officer further said. The police had issued a notice to the three accused persons and allowed them to leave. Thereafter, several Shiv Sena (UBT) workers gathered at the Naupada police station in solidarity with Jadhav. However, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray said the controversy is not linked to the 'Marathi-non Marathi' issue. 'There was an altercation over a disagreement in a shop over the charging of a phone. This has been mentioned in the FIR as well. It has nothing to do with the language of either of the parties. I urge all not to give it the colour of any dispute over language.'

Maharashtra minister Yogesh Kadam said on Thursday that you have to speak Marathi in Maharashtra. "In Maharashtra, you have to speak Marathi. If you don't know Marathi, your attitude shouldn't be that you won't speak Marathi. If anyone disrespects Marathi in Maharashtra, we will enforce our laws,' ANI quoted Kadam as saying. His statement comes amid outrage over a viral video of a food stall owner in Thane being assaulted for purportedly refusing to speak in Marathi. Kadam criticised the people involved in the assault of the food stall owner, saying that they should not have taken the law into their own hands. An official had gone into the shop to charge his phone and he wasn't allowed to do so, which led to a fight and the person was beaten. A lady saved the person. This has gone into a police complaint," ANI quoted Thackeray as saying. Thane Food Stall Incident The incident occurred on Tuesday when a man, while purchasing food, requested the stall owner to communicate in Marathi. When the stall owner questioned this request, the man became angry and began shouting at him. The man's companions joined him and slapped the stall owner during the altercation.
