PM Modi, Amit Shah meet President Murmu separately
It was not known the reasons behind the subsequent meetings of the prime minister and the home minister with the President.
"Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan," the Rashtrapati Bhavan said on 'X'.
Hours later, the Rashtrapati Bhavan again wrote on 'X', "Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan."
The home minister also wrote on 'X' sharing a picture of his meeting with President Murmu. "Called on Hon'ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji at Rashtrapati Bhavan."
However, there is no words so far from the prime minister's office.
This was the first meeting of the prime minister with the President after his recent visit to the United Kingdom and the Maldives.
The meetings came against the backdrop of the logjam in Parliament over the Opposition's demand for a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections in the state. Except discussions in both Houses on Operation Sindoor, Parliament has seen little business ever since the Monsoon session began on July 21.
Also, the Lok Sabha last week approved the extension of the President's rule in Manipur for six more months, while the Rajya Sabha is yet to take up the motion for discussion. The President's rule was imposed in the Northeastern state on February 13.
The prime minister's meeting with the President also came days after US President Donald Trump announced 25 per cent tariffs on exports from India and an unspecified penalty because of New Delhi's purchases of Russian military equipment and oil.
The meetings also came nearly two weeks after Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21 tendered his resignation as vice president to the President citing health grounds.
The vice president also functions as the chairman of Rajya Sabha.
The Election Commission last week announced that election of vice president will take place on September 9.
The electoral college for the vice-presidential election comprises all elected and nominated members of the Rajya Sabha and all members of the Lok Sabha.

Ask EC to publish names, details of 65 lakh deleted voters: ADR plea in Supreme Court
The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) on Tuesday sought directions from the Supreme Court to the Election Commission to publish the name and details of around 65 lakh electors left out of the draft electoral rolls in Bihar. The SC is hearing a batch of petitions challenging the EC's June 24 order to conduct a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across the country, starting with Bihar. The court is scheduled to hear the matters on August 12. In an application filed on Tuesday, the ADR, one of the petitioners, asked the court to direct the EC to publish the Assembly constituency and part or booth-wise list of names and details, including reasons (deceased, permanently shifted, duplicate or untraceable), of the around 65 lakh electors removed from the draft roll published on August 1. As part of the SIR exercise, the EC had ordered that only those voters who submit enumeration forms by July 25 would be included in the draft roll. Out of the total 7.89 crore registered electors in the state, the EC said forms had been received from 7.24 crore, meaning the remaining 65 lakh were removed. The EC said in a press note on July 25 that 22 lakh of these electors were found to have died, 35 lakh had either permanently migrated or could not be found and 7 lakh were registered in more than one place. According to EC sources, the lists provided to the booth level agents (BLAs) of political parties on July 20 included the names, EPIC numbers and reasons for removal of electors from each booth. The ADR, represented by Senior Advocate Prashant Bhushan, also asked that the EC publish an Assembly constituency and part or booth-wise list of the electors who were included in the draft roll but were in the category of 'not recommended' by the Booth Level Officers (BLOs), which means they could be removed from the final roll to be published on September 30. The petitioner said while the EC had provided a list of electors whose names had been deleted to the BLAs of a few political parties, the reasons for their removal were not mentioned in that list. It said that as per the lists provided to parties on July 20, when five days for submission of forms still remained, the reasons for uncollected forms was mentioned. But, in the lists provided on August 1, the column recording reason was not there. 'It is submitted that the list with names of 65 lakh deleted electors curiously fails to disclose the reason of non-submission of their enumeration forms, an information that the Election Commission evidently possesses. In other words, it fails to provide any explanation as to why these names were not included in the draft electoral rolls whether for reasons of having been deceased, permanently migrated out of Bihar, being untraceable or on the ground of duplicate entry,' ADR said. In a departure from the annual special summary revision and pre-poll revisions, this time, the EC decided to prepare the rolls afresh. All those added to the rolls after January 1, 2003, when the last intensive revision was done, are required to submit documents establishing their eligibility, including citizenship. RPAs for 3 services to mountain radars: DAC clears procurements worth Rs 67,000 cr
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday approved a range of military procurement proposals for the armed forces worth nearly Rs 67,000 crore. These include the procurement of Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPAs) for the three services, a compact autonomous surface craft for the Navy, maintenance support for the C-17 and C-130J fleets of the Indian Air Force (IAF), and a comprehensive annual maintenance contract for the S-400 long range air defence missile system. The DAC's approval for the maintenance of both American and Russian platforms with the IAF can be considered a display of strategic autonomy by India, especially at a time when the US President Donald Trump has been criticising India over its crude oil imports from Russia, a move New Delhi termed 'unjustified and unreasonable targeting' of the country. The IAF has a fleet of 12 C-130J-30 Super Hercules Aircraft, procured from the US in 2010-11, followed by additional orders in the subsequent years. The IAF operates a fleet of 11 C-17 Globemaster III aircraft procured between 2013 and 2019. Both were procured by India from the US under separate Foreign Military Sale (FMS) agreements. India had signed the S-400 deal with Russia in 2018, a year after the US passed the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA). The long range surface to air missile system played a critical role in defending Indian skies during Operation Sindoor between May 7 and 10. These procurements are particularly significant in the light of Operation Sindoor, which was launched by India on May 7 after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead, and appear to be drawn from lessons learnt from it. According to a statement issued by the Defence Ministry, the DAC has granted an Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for the procurement of Thermal Imager-based Driver Night Sights for the Battle Mechanised Platforms with the Army, which will enhance the night driving capability of BMPs and provide higher mobility and operational advantage to the mechanised infantry. The DAC is the primary body responsible for approving major capital acquisitions in defence. The first step in the defence procurement process is the Acceptance of Necessity (AoN). However, obtaining an AoN does not always lead to a final order. The DAC also approved the procurement of the compact autonomous surface craft, the BrahMos fire control system and launchers, and the upgrade of the BARAK-1 point defence missile system for the Navy. 'The procurement of the compact autonomous surface craft will enable the Indian Navy to detect, classify and neutralise threats during anti-submarine warfare missions,' the statement said. For the Indian Air Force, an AoN was granted for the procurement of mountain radars and the upgrade of the SAKSHAM/SPYDER weapon system, which will enhance air surveillance capabilities along and across borders in mountainous regions. The upgrade of the SAKSHAM/SPYDER system for integration with the Integrated Air Command and Control System will strengthen India's air defence capabilities. Additionally, the procurement of MALE RPAs for three services will support round-the-clock surveillance and combat readiness, as these aircraft can carry multiple payloads and weapons while operating at longer ranges for extended missions.
