Being a sex symbol can be scary at times
Anderson, who was a Playboy model before being propelled to fame in her role as lifeguard CJ Parker in Baywatch in the 1990s, described being a sex symbol as a 'slippery slope'.
The 58-year-old said: 'I don't like being a sex symbol. I mean, I think it's not very sexy.
'I think we all aspire to be sexy in our relationships, but sexy for the world is, I don't know.
'It brought a lot of attention I didn't like, but I hate to say that because I'm not complaining, but I do feel that is a slippery slope where you are presenting yourself to the world like this and you get this attention back, that can be even scary at times.
'Me not wearing make-up and me being at this age, coming into this part of my career, I felt it was important for me in my personal life, to be more natural.
'I want to challenge myself and become and to be, present myself in different ways because women are many things.
'We're not just the wild animal between the sheets.'
On her decision to be make-up free on red carpets, Anderson said she was not 'letting myself go'.
'I don't feel like I look like a mess when I walk out the door,' she said.
'I'm just peeling it back to see who I am.'
The actor added: 'We have these generational habits, the way that we're brought up even, and just these things stick in our head, so I want to break free of that.
'I feel like this is a little bit of a rebel move is to be who you want to be, like what is beauty? Beauty's subjective?
'We don't have to look like the covers of magazines.
'We don't have to do the industry standard, which everybody was so horrified when I decided I didn't need a glam team for certain events.'
Anderson, who was a Playboy model before being propelled to fame in her role as lifeguard CJ Parker in Baywatch in the 1990s, has two sons with ex-husband Tommy Lee.
In 2022, her private life was shone under the spotlight once again, with the TV series Pam & Tommy dramatising their whirlwind romance.
She made her Broadway debut playing Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago in 2022, and last year she starred in the film The Last Showgirl, which led to her being nominated for a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild award.

'It is funny: We all come to this place in different ways, but to be able to share this experience with him is very meaningful and such an honor,' she noted. She also said that he is 'the perfect gentleman' and 'brings out the best in you ... with respect, kindness and depth of experience.' In October Neeson said he was 'madly in love' with the Playboy cover girl. 'She's just terrific to work with,' Neeson told People. 'I can't compliment her enough, I'll be honest with you. Living on the Moon which plays at Gilded Balloon Patter House at 2.45pm from 30 July to 24 August, charts Molly's experience of her mother's 12- year demise from Alzheimer's. It is a poignant yet humorous account of how she learned to face the truth and let go. Supermodel Caprice Bourret has admitted she was 'unbearable' at the height of her fame and was totally 'out of control' as she reflected on her wild career. The American star, 53, stormed the fashion world during the 1990s appearing on countless magazine covers including Vogue, Sports Illustrated and Maxim. But in a new interview, Caprice has revealed that she became so big headed that she even turned down going out for lunch with Cindy Crawford and playing the lead in Baywatch. Speaking to Radio One DJ Charlie Hedges on My Wardrobe Malfunction, the mother-of-two, who has given up alcohol, said: 'I believed my own bulls***. I believed my own hype. How could you not? 'I was unbearable. I would go to a nightclub and of course they were so nice all the time. They would give me like a free table and give me alcohol and yada, yada, yada…I would sit at my table, and I would get the bouncer. 'I'd say: 'I want that guy, that guy, that guy, and that guy. Can you get them to come up to my table?' I mean, how embarrassing is that? 'And they used to come to my table and sometimes I would make out with one, and I don't know, maybe make out with another one…It was out of control, it was crazy, you know? It was completely mental.' Caprice now lives a quieter lifestyle with partner Ty and 11-year-old sons Jett and Dax in a Grade II listed house in Notting Hill. Trying to break away from being the pretty face to become a credible actress, the runway star continued: 'I was offered the lead in Baywatch and I thought: 'I'm much bigger than that', so I turned that down. 'I was always known as the babe and I just thought: 'I don't wanna be the babe anymore. I want to be a credible actress.' 'How stupid is that? …And I remember one time, Cindy's PR had called up my PR and wanted to go out to lunch and then take pictures and yada, yada. And I just said: 'No, Cindy's using me for publicity.' And I didn't go. 'My agent said 'Are you sure you want to do this? It is Cindy Crawford.' I said 'Yeah, she's trying to get publicity off of me.' That's crazy.' Caprice grew up in Hacienda Heights, in Los Angeles with her interior designer mother Valerie, and father Dale, an estate agent, who died in 2016. She left home at 17 and moved to New York where she began her modelling career. She shot to fame in 1996 after appearing on the National TV Awards in a barely-there black Versace lace dress. 'I was on the cover of every single newspaper alive the next day and that's how it all started,' she said. And Caprice recently proved she's still got it at 53 as she rocked a bikini while starring in a sizzling new shoot. The model has thrown it back to her lads' mags heyday, during which she starred on 250 covers, with a new shoot for Loaded. The blonde stunner wows in a series of barely-there bikinis, pulling out her best poses and pouts for the camera in an Ibiza resort. The model has revealed she's had to work for her jaw-dropping physique, admitting she has been on a strict diet and fitness regime for decades. 'Honestly, it's discipline,' she confessed. 'I play a lot of tennis and I go running when I can. I try to stay active most days, even if it's just a long walk.' Her biggest hack though is cutting out carbs, revealing how she recently 'eliminated carbs and lost 20 pounds'. 'The first month was rough, but now it's second nature. I feel stronger, I sleep better, and I've got so much more energy—it's been a total game-changer'. The California-born star has also bought in to the wellness hype, championed by the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, as she gushed: 'I'm a big believer in overall wellness too. I start every morning with a smoothie and a ridiculous number of supplements. Wellness is part of my life.' Whilst Caprice is enjoying the trip down memory lane with her new bikini shoot, she has plenty of other ventures that have boosted her bank balance and kept her busy in recent years. She made her first million at 25 and after a wise property investment in Surrey, has continued to build her property portfolio alongside her booming lingerie business which is said to have bagged her £24million. Her childhood dream though was to act and after realising she wasn't getting cast in lead roles, she simply decided to make her own movies, launching her own film company, JJLove Productions 'named after my boys Jett and Jax.' She shoots multiple films a year, with her latest movie, A Scottish Christmas Secret, hitting Channel 5 later this year. She has also moved on from her reality TV years, which saw her appear on everything from Celebrity Big Brother to Celebs On The Farm. Caprice was training for the winter sports reality show The Jump in 2017 when a scan revealed the terrible news.
