You can do free yoga in Grand Central Terminal's iconic Vanderbilt Hall this summer

Time Out17-06-2025
Next time you're barreling through Grand Central Terminal on your commute, you might want to ditch the rush and strike a warrior II instead. On Saturday, June 21, the MTA is transforming Vanderbilt Hall—the historic, marble-clad gateway to Midtown rush hours and Metro-North trains—into a full-on yoga sanctuary. And the best part? It's totally free.
In celebration of the International Day of Yoga, Grand Central is hosting a trio of movement sessions open to the public. The day kicks off at 11 a.m. with a kid-friendly fitness and yoga class led by Adriana Zito, a veteran trainer known for bringing her energy-packed workouts to cruise ships, college campuses and Brooklyn block parties. If your little yogis can hold a downward dog longer than you can, now's their moment.
Then at noon and again at 1 p.m., Killer Bodies NYC takes over for two energizing adult sessions promising 'energy, empowerment and yoga.' No equipment necessary—just bring yourself, a water bottle and maybe a towel if you're the sweaty type.
This wellness moment is part of a broader 'Summer Fun' series announced this week by the MTA. From book readings and stand-up comedy to kids' concerts and painting nights, Grand Central is going full community hub this summer. The event lineup was developed after public feedback from Summer Streets last year and the programming is aimed squarely at making NYC transit feel a little less… stressful.
It's also a savvy move to bring more foot traffic through the station, especially with new restaurants opening soon, including Palladino's Steak & Seafood and San Wei's ramen-and-dumpling spot. 'We are very excited to bring a first-of-its-kind series of summer events to Grand Central,' said David Florio, MTA's chief of real estate transactions. 'Grand Central is a perfect space to bring people together.'
It turns out Vanderbilt Hall is no longer just where you dart through with a latte; it's your new go-to yoga studio. RSVP is recommended via Grand Central's website, but walk-ins are welcome if space allows.
Go ahead—unroll that mat beneath the chandeliers and soak up the serenity. Your train can wait 45 minutes.

Sir Tom Jones, 85, makes triumphant return to the stage after suffering illness

Sir Tom Jones has returned to the stage a week after being forced to cancel a show due to health issues. Last week the singer, 85, announced he was unable to perform in Bremen, Germany due to an upper respiratory infection. At the time he explained he 'needed treatment and rest', also apologising to fans for the 'disappointment and inconvenience'. A few days after the cancellation, Sir Tom had been due to headline a festival at the Dundee Waterfront this weekend. However, the organiser of Discovery Festival was confident the show would go on as planned, saying: 'We have no concerns ahead of Tom Jones' show on Sunday, July 27.' Their reassurances were luckily correct, with the crooner recovering in time to be able to delight fans at the event last night. Photos and videos from the festival show Sir Tom – best known for hits including It's Not Unusual, Sexbomb and Delilah – looking fighting fit, standing up on stage and swinging as he sung. Posting a clip on X, fan Anne Marie wrote: 'Tom Jones in Dundee yesterday, just wow! 85yrs old and he still has it.' Sir Tom's cancelled show had been part of his Defy Explanation tour, which kicked off in June and is set to run until the end of August with dates across the UK and Europe. During a recent show at the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, Denmark, he joked: 'Is my voice still working? Yes? So as long as it's here, I'm here.' Last year, Sir Tom told Metro the only way he would retire would be if he completely lost his voice. 'I wouldn't like to shortchange an audience, 'he said. Being old, you can't do what you used to do. 'I mean, I can't walk around like I used to, but I wouldn't want to now. When you're young you're full of p*** and vinegar and you're giving it plenty. Now I concentrate more on singing than I do anything else.' After releasing It's Not Unusual in 1965, the following year Sir Tom won best new artist at the Grammy Awards. More Trending Throughout his career, he's sold over 100 million records, with 36 Top 40 hits in the UK and 19 in the US. He also won an MTV Video Music Award in 1989, two Brit Awards: best British male in 2000 and outstanding contribution to music in 2003 and got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1989. In 1998 Sir Tom was awarded an OBE, before being knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2006 for services to music. Got a story? Netflix quietly cancels 'gem of a series' with 100% on Rotten Tomatoes

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A Netflix show fans hailed as 'amazingly intimate' and a show for the 'whole family' has quietly been scrapped after just one series. In late 2023, documentary maker Greg Whitely treated fans to Wrestlers, which gave an peek behind the scenes at how a professional wrestling company was really run. It still has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but Al Snow – whose promotion OVW (Ohio Valley Wrestling) was the focus of the series – has exclusively told Metro that a second season is officially off the table for Netflix. 'There were certainly talks. They had an option for a second season up until last September, and they just never took the option,' he explained. '[It] just ticked past. There was no fanfare or anything of that nature. It just quietly moved on.' Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. The 62-year-old star heard on the grapevine that there had been some behind the scenes moves 'to do basically the same format with more established brands'. Indeed, filmmaker Whitely went onto work on series featuring the likes of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, while Netflix launched WWE Unreal this week, which gives fans an intimate look behind the curtain of the worldwide juggernaut. Al, who wrestled for WWE from 1995 to 2008, insisted the new WWE series is 'good for everybody', while the door isn't shut on OVW reviving Wrestlers in another way. 'From what I understand, we have the option to have a second season, if we wish. We just would do it with a different streaming service than Netflix,' he added. Confirmation Wrestlers isn't returning to the streamer will be a blow to viewers, who had hoped for a second season after getting hooked on the original run. 'This wrestling documentary is amazing! It made me cry because I felt the hard work of all the wrestlers and everyone at OVW,' wrote Charish Herida on Google Reviews. 'Great show the whole family can watch together. Fantastic binge worthy series,' added Kelly iztheBest, while William Luckett said: 'Greg Whitely makes amazingly intimate portrayals that you can tell are authentic and not overproduced.' And Simon Manley said: 'There are heavy emotional moments in here as well as heavy bumps and hats off to [them], there are some real cinematic moments here too. Greg Whiteley has created an absolute gem of a series that wrestling fans and non-wrestling fans alike will love.' Thankfully for OVW fans, the company is still going strong after being bought out by UK-based sports agency Morley Sports Management (MSM), who are launching a new initiative to give athletes in football, rugby and other sports a launchpad into wrestling. More Trending MSM founder and CEO Rob Edwards said: 'We absolutely know the talent is there in the UK – particularly in football – and the opportunities we OVW provide could give so many sports people another chance.' But Al warned that he's seen lots of athletes come into wrestling without realising the 'physical exertion and amount of commitment' required. Sue Cleaver as Eileen Grimshaw Loose Women and I'm A Celebrity star Sue was central to the show for two and a half decades said goodbye in June. When her exit was confirmed she said: 'I've had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street.' 'The door is still firmly open, but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures, and live fearlessly.' Colson Smith as Craig Tinker After 14 years, Corrie decided to also write out police officer Craig, with the actor sharing his love for the show on social media following the decision, which was delivered to him last year. He said: 'I've loved every single second of my 14-year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. 'I've learnt pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I'm excited to play out the exit story for our Craigy. For me, this is just the end of the beginning. 'I genuinely can't wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. Long live the cobbles!' Charlotte Jordan as Daisy Midgeley After a very busy four years on the show, Daisy departed in the back of a taxi, with Charlotte keen to try other projects. She said in a statement: 'My time at Coronation Street is something I'll always cherish. 'After a brilliant four years for Daisy, it's time for me to start a new chapter and explore other opportunities. 'It's been a privilege to be part of a wonderful institution with even more wonderful colleagues who have taught me so much.' Shelley King as Yasmeen Metcalfe After 10 years, Yasmeen also departed the cobbles - in a somewhat muted exit scene. Following her departure, actress Shelley bid farewell in an emotional video posted to Corrie's social media accounts. 'I've been so privileged to be living in number six, I've had the most wonderful time,' she said. 'I'm very sad to be leaving, I just felt I'd have to try going back to the stage, maybe try to refresh Yasmeen.' She continued: 'We're very close, Yas and I. So as you probably know, Yas is going to do other things – she will not say goodbye. 'She will say, as the French do, 'à bientôt', which means 'see you soon'. Paddy Bever as Max Turner 'After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street , to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way, Paddy, 22, said in a statement. His final scenes aired in March, having been carted off to a prison in Durham. Sue Devaney as Debbie Webster Fans have been left distraught at news of Debbie's upcoming departure, with the character being written out as part of a storyline focusing on dementia. A source told Metro: 'It's one of the show's biggest storylines of the year, and a real chance for Sue to finally get her time in the spotlight – it will just be devastating for fans that it will effectively be her final storyline. 'It's one of many major storylines new boss Kate Brooks has in the bag, and there will not be a dry eye in the house. 'There is no doubt in the Corrie family that she will give the performance of a lifetime and make Debbie's exit one to remember for years.' Debbie will be on our screens until 2027. Adam Hussain as Aadi Alahan Taking to Instagram, Adam announced his departure with a sweet post. 'I guess the secrets out now! As some of you may have heard, I will be leaving Coronation Street for new pastures,' the actor penned, alongside a recent photo of the full Corrie cast. 'Over the 5 years I've spent there I have learned so much about the world and the industry and now feel I am ready to spread my wings a little. I have made friends that will last a lifetime and will surely miss such a special family! 'This isn't a farewell for Aadi however, more like a see you later! Daniel Brocklebank as Billy Mayhew After 11 years, it's off up to the heavens above for Billy, as an explosive death story has been teased following the announcement of the character's axing. Discussing his departure, Daniel said: 'I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not look forward to going into work. He added: 'I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.' Producer of the show Kate Brooks noted: 'Billy will be involved in a major storyline over the coming months, which will see him tested in ways he never imagined, as friendships and his faith are pushed to the limit. 'We're incredibly sad to bid farewell to Dan, who has been fantastic in some of Corrie's biggest storylines over the past few years, most notably Paul's MND. 'An actor of immeasurable talent and skill, and an absolute treasure behind the scenes – he will be missed by all of us on the cobbles.'
