Yellow Line BRT completion set for May 2025, 5 Months ahead of deadline
Senior Minister for Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, visited the ongoing construction work of the Yellow Line BRT project and inspected its progress.
During the visit, the Secretary of the Transport Department, Asad Zaman, Yellow Line Project Director Zameer Abbasi, engineers, representatives from construction companies, and consultants were also present.
The consultants briefed the Senior Minister on the project, highlighting the progress, obstacles, and the expected completion timeline.
Sharjeel Inam Memon instructed that there should be no delays in the completion of the Yellow Line BRT, and it should be completed ahead of the deadline. He further emphasised that the project, which was initially set to complete by September 2025, will now be completed by May 2025—five months ahead of schedule.
Speaking to the media, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Sindh government is working tirelessly to provide maximum convenience to the people, and the Yellow Line BRT is an advanced project being built for the citizens of Karachi. He acknowledged that utility-related challenges are common during construction but assured that the government is committed to overcoming these obstacles.
Regarding the Red Line BRT project, he mentioned challenges due to civil aviation, the Water Board, and the K4 project, but assured that these issues would be resolved soon. He praised the Transport Department officials for their excellent performance and efforts to complete the projects on time.
On the Green Line BRT, he confirmed that the fares would not be increased and additional facilities would be provided to improve the public's travel experience.
Sharjeel Inam Memon also appealed to the Prime Minister to honour his commitment to provide 180 buses for Karachi, as this is the right of the city's citizens. He urged that the Prime Minister must fulfil this promise to ensure better travel facilities for Karachi's residents.
As part of special initiatives for women, he announced that pink scooters would be provided for free to working women. Additionally, a pink taxi service would soon be introduced to offer safe and comfortable travel options for women. Furthermore, the Sindh government has launched the "I Work for Sindh" app and portal, which will provide employment opportunities for unemployed youth.
Sharjeel Inam Memon concluded that all these projects are for the people of Karachi, and they will be completed on time to ensure modern travel facilities for the city.

Occupants evacuated from 9 unsafe buildings in Lyari: Sharjeel
KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister and Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that the Sindh government has evacuated nine unsafe buildings in Lyari, while the demolition of one dilapidated structure is currently in progress. The government will provide three months' rent as financial assistance to the affected families. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the newly appointed Director General of the SBCA has instructed the organization's officers to submit details of their assets within 15 days. Strict action will be taken against those involved in the construction or protection of illegal buildings. He said that the Sindh government is set to introduce the Sindh Electric Policy 2024 next month. To promote industrial development, a subsidy of Rs. 18 per unit will be provided on electricity in the Nooriabad and Dhabeji industrial zones. Regarding environmental protection, he said that the Environmental Protection Agency has launched an immediate crackdown on illegal wastewater discharge at Sea-view and has directed the relevant teams to submit a report within 48 hours. He expressed regret over the dismissal of 800 employees from Sindh by the Utility Stores Corporation and said that, in defiance of clear court orders, the terminated workers have not been reappointed. Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that NEPRA has ordered K-Electric and other firms to refund the surplus amount collected from consumers in April and May 2025, under which Rs. 4.035 and 50 paise per unit will be refunded to the consumers. Urban mobility, education and roads: Sindh CM approves several projects
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presided over the 47th meeting of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Policy Board, reviewed and approved several transformative infrastructure and development projects aimed at enhancing urban mobility, vocational education, recreational spaces and road connectivity across the province. The meeting, held at CM House, was attended by provincial ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Saeed Ghani, Zia ul Hassan Lanjar, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, PSCM Agha Wasif, Secretary Transport/DG PPP unit Asad Zamin, members of the board and concerned officials. The board took strategic decisions on a diverse agenda, including the People's Green Transport Project, technical education reforms under STEVTA, the Rani Bagh redevelopment in Hyderabad, and progress on the Shahrah-e-Bhutto corridor. People's Green Transport Project: In a landmark move to overhaul Karachi's transport system, the PPP Policy Board approved engaging Transaction Advisors for the People's Green Transport Project, which aims to introduce 1,000 electric buses across the city. The advisors will assess the Unique Selling Proposition (USP) submitted by a private consortium. If deemed feasible, a detailed project will be implemented under the PPP model, involving phased procurement and operation of 600 twelve-meter and 400 eight-meter electric buses. 10 bus depots will be constructed, and the project will operate on a per kilometer payment model over a 10-year concession period, with ownership of assets transferring to the government thereafter. The Technical Evaluation Committee (TEC) confirmed the project's alignment with sustainable urban mobility goals, while previously appointed transaction advisors will be used to fast-track implementation, avoiding delays in procurement. Shahrah-e-Bhutto Project: The board reviewed key updates on the Shahrah-e-Bhutto high-speed corridor, which stretches upto 39 km from Korangi Creek Avenue (DHA) to the M-9 Motorway near Kathore. Dhabeji SEZ Project: The Board discussed in detail and reviewed the progress on the Dhabeji SEZ project. The Board emphasised the need to expedite the construction activities so that industrial activities can be initiated at the earliest. The STEVTA Reform Plan: The board also reviewed a proposal seeking ratification of Project Development Facility (PDF) funding to conduct feasibility and transaction advisory services for the modernisation of 83 technical and vocational institutes under the Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA). This initiative targets one-third of STEVTA's 259 institutes, aiming to address infrastructure gaps, curriculum mismatches, and industry disconnect. With an additional 540 private institutions operating in the sector, this effort is seen as pivotal to advancing Pakistan's National Skills Strategy and Sustainable Development Goals. Rani Bagh Redevelopment Project Nears Execution: Significant progress was reported on the Rani Bagh Development Project in Hyderabad. The board was informed that the Technical and Financial Evaluation Committee (TFEC) has recommended issuing a Letter of Award to the preferred bidder. With the revised Master Plan already endorsed by both the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) and the Sindh Cabinet, the final concession agreement and related documents are ready for execution. The project is set to deliver improved public amenities, recreational facilities, and economic activity in Hyderabad, while also generating employment and stimulating local businesses. Sukkur Water Supply Project: the Board was apprised about the project's salient features, in particular, the scope of work and transaction structure. The Board asked the Sukkur Municipal Corporation to rework the transaction structure and presentation in the next meeting for decision.

Sindh makes foolproof arrangements for Muharram: Sharjeel
KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister and Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon, has said that the Sindh government has made foolproof security arrangements for Muharram. He stated that the Sindh chief minister held meetings with scholars from various schools of thought and reviewed the security plan for gatherings and processions during the mourning period. Memon added that 14,546 police personnel will be deployed for gatherings and 35,116 for Muharram processions, with over 14,000 additional personnel assigned to ensure the security of all events. Addressing at a press conference in Karachi, Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, announced that a total of 49,662 police personnel will be deployed across Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad from the 8th to 10th of Muharram to prevent any untoward incidents. Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the Commissioner of Karachi had issued a notification on April 15, 2025, imposing a ban on the movement of rickshaws on 11 major highways in the city. He clarified that the ban does not apply to all of Karachi but is limited to specific main roads. This measure, he added, has been implemented under the Sindh Motor Vehicle Ordinance, 1965. He stated that it is the administrative authority of the government to regulate traffic and ensure convenience for citizens. He also questioned whether rickshaws operate on major highways in any other part of the country. Speaking about the education sector, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Sindh government has recruited 93,118 teachers across the province, including 58,613 men and 31,075 women. He added that 2,100 teachers were appointed under the minority quota, while 1,330 positions were filled by individuals with special abilities. He said that the recruitments were carried out through the IBA test with complete transparency, leaving no room for criticism. As a result of these measures, 5,000 previously closed schools have been reopened. Currently, 5.5 million children are enrolled in government schools across Sindh, 4 million in private schools, and 1 million in Sindh Education Foundation schools. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon further stated that the Sindh government has taken revolutionary steps in key sectors such as health, energy, infrastructure, and climate change. He noted that after the devastating floods of 2022, the government successfully began achieving its target of constructing 2.1 million houses. He also emphasized that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari raised his voice on climate change at the global level, while the Sindh government undertook extensive mangrove plantation efforts to promote environmental protection. Sharjeel Inam Memon remarked that Ali Amin Gandapur does not require an opposition, as he acts as his own opposition. He criticized the deteriorating law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding that the Chief Minister is focused on making threats to attack Islamabad while remaining oblivious to the pressing issues within his own province. He said that Jamaat-e-Islami has never fulfilled its responsibilities in Karachi and has consistently engaged in the politics of sedition. He said that while the Sindh government tolerates criticism, it will not allow anyone to dictate its policies.
