Police say driver killed in multi-vehicle crash in Newport News
On Nov. 14, 2024, officers responded to a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Mercury Boulevard around 12:10 a.m.
A preliminary investigation determined that a driver in a Nissan Vera was traveling westbound on Mercury Boulevard and drove through a red light striking a Chrysler 200, which was traveling southbound on Jefferson Avenue with a green light. This led both the Chrysler and Nissan to hit two other vehicles.
The driver of the Chrysler, Calvin Gilmore-Vick, 41, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, Deyonte Lamont Perkins, 21, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the investigation, Perkins was arrested Tuesday, Feb. 4. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving.

Philadelphia police are searching for two suspects accused of stealing 40 boxes of meat from a parked truck in Northeast Philly early Sunday morning. Officers were notified about a theft on the 9700 block of Roosevelt Avenue in the city's Bustleton neighborhood at around 3:15 a.m. According to police, the truck was parked when the driver felt it shaking. Investigators said two men were spotted taking several boxes of meat from the truck's trailer and loading them into two Nissan vehicles. The suspects left the scene before police arrived. Police said at least 40 boxes of meat were stolen, eight of which were found later in the 9700 block of Roosevelt Avenue. No arrests have been made in the case. Police say the driver, Rosalba Ramirez-Fraga, was intoxicated, had open alcohol containers in her vehicle, and was driving the wrong way before the head-on collision. Ramirez-Fraga faces multiple charges, including two felony DUI counts, and remains in custody ahead of her Aug. 8 court date. PALATINE, Ill. - A suburban woman is facing felony DUI charges after a multi-vehicle crash in Palatine left a mother and her two young children hospitalized with serious injuries, police said. What we know The crash happened shortly after 10 p.m. Friday near East Dundee Road and North Kennedy Drive. Palatine police said officers arrived to find several damaged vehicles, including a black Lexus and a black Nissan that had collided head-on. A 23-year-old woman riding in the Nissan, along with her 7-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter, were taken to area hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. An investigation revealed the driver of the Lexus, Rosalba Ramirez-Fraga, 31, was traveling northbound on North Frontage Road when she rear-ended a gray Toyota. Police said she then continued into the westbound lanes of East Dundee Road while driving eastbound — ultimately crashing head-on into the Nissan. Officers said Ramirez-Fraga showed signs of impairment and admitted to drinking before the crash. Police also recovered several open containers of alcohol from her vehicle. Las Vegas man identified in fatal 215 north valley crash
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A Las Vegas man has been identified by police following a deadly crash in the northeast valley. Jose Nacario Belardo, 59, died after being injured in a crash on Thursday, July 10, at approximately 7:13 a.m., along the 215 east of the North Pecos Road on-ramp in North Las Vegas, according to NHP. The preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of a Chrysler sedan was traveling westbound on the 215 in the far right travel lane approaching North Pecos at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Chrysler failed to use due care and reduce speed, which caused the front of the Chrysler to strike the rear of an Infiniti QX80 utility vehicle from behind, NHP said. Both the Chrysler and the Infiniti traveled in a northwest direction across the 215 westbound travel lanes and into the desert area, north of the 215. The Chrysler came to a stop facing west. The Infiniti overturned and ejected the driver from the vehicle. The Infiniti came to rest facing north in the desert area, just north of 215, according to NHP. 2025 year to date: The Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Southern Command has investigated 37 fatal crashes resulting in 38 fatalities.
