Israel-Iran war: In a significant development impacting the ongoing Israel-Iran war, media reports state that China covertly sent about 1,000 tonnes of sodium perchlorate to Iran in early 2025. Reports also say that sodium perchlorate is used as a fuel for Iranian rockets and the amount is enough for Iran to produce roughly 260 Khaibar Shekan or 200 Haj Qasem medium-range ballistic missiles.
As per a report by Aajtak, the Chinese shipment reached Iran's Bandar Abbas port via the vessels MV Golbon and Jeyran. Intended for the IRGC's missile program, the ships came from China's Taicang port to Iran's Bandar Abbas, bypassing the US sanctions. Critical role of Sodium perchlorate
For those unversed, Sodium perchlorate is a very crucial element because once converted into ammonium perchlorate, it forms up to 70% of solid rocket propellant used in missiles and space vehicles.
The large-scale transfer of Sodium perchlorate to Iran has significantly boosted Tehran's missile production capacity, raising fresh concerns about China's indirect role in regional missile proliferation.

Iran has reportedly fired six missiles towards American military bases in Iraq and Qatar on Monday, furthering the conflict with Israel and the US.
As per media reports, the operation was named 'Annunciation of Victory'. However, there have been no major impacts of the missile attack on the US bases in Qatar as American Patriot missile defence systems intercepted Iranian missiles.
Reports also said that the US activated its air defence system at the Ain Al-Asad airbase in Iraq as well.
Meanwhile, the White House has said that the US is closely monitoring threats to Al Udeid air base in Qatar.

The government, an official statement said, will take all necessary steps to secure the country's national interest, as has been the case with other trade agreements, including the latest with the UK. 'The Government has taken note of a statement by the US President on bilateral trade. The Government is studying its implications,' the statement said. It added that India and the US have been engaged in negotiations on concluding a fair, balanced and mutually beneficial bilateral trade agreement over the last few months. 'We remain committed to that objective,' the statement said. Notably, US President Trump announced the imposition of a 25 per cent tariff on all goods coming from India, plus an unspecified penalty for buying military equipment and crude oil from Russia.
