UK to back global rules on AI in schools, says Phillipson
As well as funding efforts to create guidelines on the safe and effective use of AI in the classroom, she will announce £1.1 million in funding for a pilot examining how technology can improve staff workload, outcomes for pupils and inclusivity for children with special educational needs.
She will say: 'Setting AI on the right track now is the most important challenge for global education in a generation.
'We need to come together to grow a global, collective consensus – a suite of effective tools, built on top-class evidence.'
The UK will also host a summit next year to support the development of global guidelines on using generative AI in education.
Existing guidelines leave schools free to make their own decisions about the use of generative AI such as ChatGPT, provided they comply with their legal obligations.
The guidelines also say that safety should be the 'top priority' when deciding whether to use generative AI, and that schools should not use pupils' work to train AI models without permission.
The Government is already using AI to produce attendance reports in an effort to cut down the number of days children miss school, and aims to use the technology in other areas as well.
Ms Phillipson is expected to tell Monday's conference: 'We're using technology to free up teachers to spend more time teaching.
'For children that means more attention, higher standards, better life changes.
'For teachers – less paperwork, lower stress, fewer drains on their valuable time.'

This process is known as globalisation, and also means that a lot of modern buildings look the same. But as global warming and climate change threatens the Earth, Metro wanted to get a clearer idea of what the Earth will look like in 10,000 years. However, this image looks slightly dystopian, as the AI Midjourney has spat out an image of Mexico being run-down, with large tech towers looming in the background that look slightly like they have been made out of scrap metal. We would hope that by the year 12,025 things would be more equal, but apparently, AI does not see it that way (Picture: Midjourney) AI seems to imagine that South Africa will begin to merge its landscape into nature, and greenery will be everywhere. Perhaps that is what has cleared up the skies, as climate change as we see it could lead to greyer skies. Although it doesn't say much to overpopulation, it is still nice to see humans are thriving, and are adapting to living with the Earth rather than destroying it (Picture: Midjourney) India is known for its toxic smog, and yet, not a trace of it has found its way into this image. Although we can't really say for sure what the massive hole in the right hand side building is for sure, we can guess it's for those air-travel things to do a loop-de-loop. If you can't afford your own personal air-craft, no need to worry as there is a handy high-speed rail that lets you see the greenery. Although any day crossing a road in present-day London will tell you that is already true. The main question here is why is the US so much more futuristic? And where are all those people going? Why are some people wearing more tech than others and what does it allow them to do? The year 12, 025 seems like a confusing time. It's a huge wonder what green initiative will take place, and when, since this seems to be a recurring theme across the images. The UK has different aircrafts, which seem to match the top of some buildings. Again, pedestrians and drivers seem to share a road which does not seem like the safest option. Prices for the (literally) edgy Kia EV4 start from £34,695

For that sub-£35k price tag, the Air gives you a single 201bhp (150kW) front-mounted electric motor capable of generating 209lb ft, a 58.3kWh battery and 273 miles of range. It also gives you a pair of 12.3in displays, and an integrated 5.3in climate touchscreen with real buttons for heating and cooling. There's another version of the EV4 Air that gets the same 201bhp motor and a bigger 81.4kWh battery, which bumps range right up to 388 miles and the starting price to £37,695 – akin to the range-topping Renault Megane E-tech. You might like Step up to the sportier 'GT-Line' trim, and for £39,395 you'll get - that's right - the same 201bhp motor, that bigger battery with 362 miles of juice, and choice goodies like bigger 19in wheels and the option of a 'Wolf Grey' paintjob, fur real. Otherwise white is the standard exterior finish on the Kia, so prepare to throw in another £650 for black, blue or red. The GT Line's styling and additional tech kit – including more comfy seats, ambient lighting and a wireless charger for your phone – carry through into the range-topping 'GT-Line S', which kicks off from £43,895. Same battery as the GT-Line. And e-motor. And range. And while that price will put you over the Expensive Car Supplement threshold, the extra four grand buys heated and cooled seats, a fancier sound system, HUD, park assist, electric tailgate and other driver assistance features. The EV4 has 400V electrical architecture, able to support 350kW power delivery cutting the 10-80 per cent recharge to around half an hour. Elsewhere, there's no word on that fastback yet - sorry.
