
Prices for the (literally) edgy Kia EV4 start from £34,695

Prices are in for the distinctively angular Kia EV4 – the newest fully electric, four-door hatchback on the Korean carmaker's block – and the entry-level 'Air' trim will cost from £34,695, a smidge more than the basic Cupra Born.
For that sub-£35k price tag, the Air gives you a single 201bhp (150kW) front-mounted electric motor capable of generating 209lb ft, a 58.3kWh battery and 273 miles of range. It also gives you a pair of 12.3in displays, and an integrated 5.3in climate touchscreen with real buttons for heating and cooling.

Kia's also integrated ChatGPT (because that's the trend now), Android Auto and Apple Carplay.
There's another version of the EV4 Air that gets the same 201bhp motor and a bigger 81.4kWh battery, which bumps range right up to 388 miles and the starting price to £37,695 – akin to the range-topping Renault Megane E-tech. You might like
Step up to the sportier 'GT-Line' trim, and for £39,395 you'll get - that's right - the same 201bhp motor, that bigger battery with 362 miles of juice, and choice goodies like bigger 19in wheels and the option of a 'Wolf Grey' paintjob, fur real. Otherwise white is the standard exterior finish on the Kia, so prepare to throw in another £650 for black, blue or red.
The GT Line's styling and additional tech kit – including more comfy seats, ambient lighting and a wireless charger for your phone – carry through into the range-topping 'GT-Line S', which kicks off from £43,895. Same battery as the GT-Line. And e-motor. And range. And while that price will put you over the Expensive Car Supplement threshold, the extra four grand buys heated and cooled seats, a fancier sound system, HUD, park assist, electric tailgate and other driver assistance features.

On a home charger, charging will take over five hours for the smaller battery, or seven for the bigger one. The EV4 has 400V electrical architecture, able to support 350kW power delivery cutting the 10-80 per cent recharge to around half an hour.
Elsewhere, there's no word on that fastback yet - sorry. For now, order books are only open for the hatchback, but stay tuned for more news on that one when we get it.

China will pay families to have children in an attempt to combat the country's declining birth rate. Xi Jinping's government will give parents 3,600 yuan (£367) a year per child until they are three years old under plans that will come into force this year, according to Bloomberg News. It comes amid concerns that China will not be able to care for its ageing population unless a baby boom creates a new generation of future workers who can pay taxes. Demographic decline also threatens to be a drag on economic growth. China's birth rate reached a record low of 6.39 births per 1,000 people in 2023, down from 6.77 births in 2022. That same year, India overtook China to become the world's most populous country. The population fell for a third consecutive year in 2024, with the number of deaths outpacing births. China is one of the world's most expensive countries to raise a child. For buyers wanting more, the 2026 AWD variant gets a massive upgrade, now making 440 hp and 498 lb-ft – up 140 hp and 144 lb-ft from last year. All 2026 models continue using an 85-kWh battery, good for around 300 miles of range, depending on the drivetrain. Hair clinic ordered to pay over £5,000 to man who claims not ‘even 1% improvement'
A hair transplant clinic in the Indian capital has been ordered to pay over £5,000 to a disgruntled customer who claimed he did not notice even 'one per cent improvement' despite spending more than £4,000 on the procedure. Vivek Kumar approached the clinic DHI Asian Roots in New Delhi before his wedding, enticed by what the consumer forum described as the company's promises of '100 per cent results' and a 'natural look'. He underwent three sessions of the hair transplant procedure between 2011 and 2012. According to the order issued in May this year, Kumar followed post-procedure instructions and waited for results, but 'did not notice even one per cent improvement'. He subsequently filed a complaint before the Delhi District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in December 2013. The commission held the clinic liable for deficiency in service and unfair trade practices, and said Mr Kumar was entitled to compensation for 'physical and mental harassment which he suffered'. Additionally, the clinic ' transplanted the hairs to cover bald area and created another bald area by over harvesting the donor area'. The panel directed DHI Asian Roots to refund the full treatment cost of ₹500,000 (£4,289), pay ₹100,000 (£857) in compensation for mental harassment, and an additional ₹30,000 (£257) to cover litigation expenses. The commission also said the clinic 'failed to produce any document showing authorisation or license to perform modern scientific hair implantation procedures' and 'lacked government approval to engage doctors' for such procedures. 'The procedure conducted amounted to an unfair medical trade practice, carried out without the requisite licenses or specialised expertise, and appeared motivated solely by financial gain,' the order stated. In a statement to The Independent, DHI Asian Roots has said that it would be filing an appeal to challenge the order. 'The client in question underwent two procedures, one each in 2011 and 2012. The client filed a complaint before consumer forum in 2013 alleging deficiency in services despite getting results,' DHI Asian Roots said. 'With all due respect to the Hon'ble forum, we want to clarify that these assertions were neither part of the complaint, nor supported by any evidence, and have no bearing to the actual facts,' the clinic added, referring to Mr Kumar's allegations that his treatment was performed by 'unqualified personnel'. 'In fact, the order itself acknowledges that the client was satisfied with the first procedure's results and that is why he came for the second time. Both procedures were performed by highly trained, certified, and qualified MD Dermatologist doctors and DHI complies with all licensing requirements. There are many other inconsistencies in the order.'
