SP MP demands rollback of school merger
Samajwadi Party
MP from Machhlishahr Priya Saroj has written to the Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan demanding review of the policy of 'integration of schools' in Uttar Pradesh and cancellation of the merger process.
In her letter, Saroj said that the policy of integration of schools was being followed in Uttar Pradesh, which seems to be against the basic spirit of the Right to Education Act (RTE Act).
"Under RTE Act, there is a provision that every child between the age of 6 to 14 years should be provided free and compulsory education within one kilometre of the nearest primary school from residence. If no school is available within a radius of one kilometre, then it is the responsibility of the govt to ensure admission of the child in the nearest school," she said.
She said the current policy of the UP govt was violating the spirit of the Act.
"This is hindering access to school for many children, leading more dropouts. Jobs of 2.5 lakh teachers and school staff of UP are also at risk," she said.

Rahul Gandhi gets bail in 2018 defamation case over remarks on Amit Shah
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was granted bail on Wednesday by the MP-MLA court in Jharkhand's Chaibasa in a defamation case. The case was related to his alleged remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a political rally held in 2018. 'Rahul Gandhi ji appeared before the court as per the direction from the Jharkhand High Court. He had sought bail, which was granted. We will now take the process ahead,' said the Congress MP's counsel. Earlier on June 2, the Congress leader had approached the Jharkhand High Court, challenging a special court's order that required him to appear on June 26. On June 10, his lawyer told the high court that Gandhi would not be able to appear on that date. A request was made to allow August 6 instead. The high court accepted this request and allowed him to appear on the new date. What was the case against Rahul Gandhi? The defamation case was filed by a person named Pratap Kumar. He accused Rahul Gandhi of making statements at a rally in 2018 that were defamatory and meant to damage Amit Shah's public image. The complaint was submitted to the court of the magistrate in Chaibasa. Rahul Gandhi had reached Jharkhand a day earlier to attend the funeral of former chief minister and senior tribal leader Shibu Soren. The funeral took place at Soren's ancestral village, Nemra, in Ramgarh district. SC pulls up Rahul Gandhi over China remarks A Bench of the apex court questioned Gandhi's comments, saying, 'If you are a true Indian, you will not say these things.' The court further advised him to raise such concerns in Parliament rather than making statements on social media. (With agency inputs)

T.N. only State in India to achieve double-digit economic growth: CM Stalin
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) said Tamil Nadu stands tall as the only State in India to achieve double-digit economic growth rate in real terms during 2024-25 at 11.19%. In a post on X, Mr. Stalin referred to a report published in The Hindu and said: 'Tamil Nadu's Dravidian model government stands tall as the only State in India to achieve double-digit economic growth. We proudly declared that Tamil Nadu led the nation with a growth rate of 9.69%. Now, that too has been surpassed. As per the revised estimates of the Union government, Tamil Nadu has recorded a staggering growth rate of 11.19% — the highest in the country,' he said. 'The last time we touched double-digit growth was in 2010-11, under the leadership of Kalaignar [M. Karunanidhi]. Today, the Dravidian model government, walking the path shown by Thalaivar Kalaignar, has repeated that feat. When we set the target of becoming a one trillion dollar economy by 2030, many raised their eyebrows. 'It's too ambitious,' they said. But with growth like this, what once seemed distant is now well within reach,' he said quoting a couplet from Tirukkural.
