Malayalam cinema superstar

Thudarum's day one numbers managed to comfortably surpass the opening day collections of several recent Malayalam blockbusters. The film outpaced Manujummel Boys, which had taken a solid Rs 3.3 crore on its opening day in 2014, becoming a word-of-mouth sensation soon after. It also bettered the critically acclaimed survival drama 2018, which had opened at Rs 1.71 crore before going on to become one of Malayalam cinema's biggest hits.
Another notable film that Thudarum left behind was Aavesham, starring
, which had posted a commendable Rs 3.65 crore on its first day. Given the strong buzz around Aavesham, Thudarum's performance was particularly significant, signaling that Mohanlal's loyal fan following remains unshaken.
However, while Thudarum secured a respectable spot among the year's top openers, it fell short of challenging the records set by the industry's biggest titles.
's The Goat Life , a drama that minted Rs 7.6 crore on day 1. Meanwhile, Mohanlal's own magnum opus, L2: Empuraan, continues to hold the record for the highest opening day in Malayalam cinema with a staggering Rs 21 crore — a number that remains untouched.
Despite not toppling Empuraan or The Goat Life, Thudarum's opening day performance is a win for both Mohanlal and the Malayalam film industry, reaffirming the audience's appetite for theatrical experiences.

With positive word of mouth starting to build, the film is expected to enjoy a strong weekend, adding another potential hit to Mohanlal's illustrious filmography.

will be playing his younger self in the film.

Heritage makeover of 117-yr-old Roxy to restore art deco glory by March 2026

1 2 Kolkata: The art deco-style opera house turned cinema hall at Esplanade, constructed by Maurice Bandmann and Arathoon Stephen 117 years ago, is set to undergo a heritage makeover. This transformation will be similar to Mumbai's Eros Cinema, with real estate developers' body Credai signing an MoU with KMC to renovate it at a cost of Rs 5 crore. The renovation will be completed by March 2026. Currently known as Roxy Cinema, it started as Empire Theatre in 1908 before being converted to a cinema hall in 1941. Empire Theatre hosted Uday Shankar's dance recitals. Others who performed at the Empire include Harry Lauder, Dame Clara Butt, Anna Pavlova, Marie Tempest, and Matheson Lang. After it became Roxy Cinema, the first movie to be screened was the Ashok Kumar-starrer 'Naya Sansar' in 1941. Another Ashok Kumar-starrer, 'Kismet', was screened in 1943 for a record 186 weeks. Credai Kolkata president Siddharth Pansari said the project is the single largest private investment in the restoration of public infrastructure in Kolkata. "We have pledged to spend Rs 5 crore in doing up the 25,000 sq ft interiors of Roxy Cinema in art deco style. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo When complete, it will be an auditorium that KMC can use for its programmes or rent out," said Pansari. The KMC heritage committee will continue to inspect and supervise the restoration. Mayor Firhad Hakim lauded the Credai Kolkata initiative to step forward and support the restoration project. Roxy was nearly facing the hammer a decade ago when heritage enthusiasts — writer Amit Chaudhuri and Intach Kolkata convenor GM Kapur — filed a PIL. The subsequent change of guard at KMC led to the demolition plan being dumped. The restoration project marks a remarkable turnaround in the theatre's fortunes.

Saiyaara Getting A Sequel After Blockbuster Success? Shaan, Who Played Mahesh Iyer, REACTS

Last Updated: Saiyaara fans are speculating a sequel featuring Krish, Vaani and Mahesh. Shaan R Grover responds to the buzz and shares emotional fan reactions. After Saiyaara's box office storm, fans are already dreaming about a sequel and now, one of the film's key characters is reacting to the buzz. While Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's characters Krish Kapoor and Vaani Batra find a fairytale ending in Mohit Suri's romantic drama, fans haven't stopped thinking about the antagonist, Mahesh Iyer, played by Shaan R Grover. In an interview with Zoom, Shaan shared his thoughts on the possibility of Saiyaara 2. 'As far as my character is concerned, a lot can be done later. Mahesh just vanished; it was abrupt," he said, before adding, 'Maybe it can be explored if these characters decide to go on a different journey. What if Vaani wants to meet Mahesh one last time, that could be a different character arc for Krish. There are no talks for the sequel right now. It depends on YRF and Mohit Suri." Interestingly, AI-generated fan art showing Krish and Vaani as parents has been going viral, further fuelling speculation about a sequel. Shaan also revealed how he and Aneet Padda prepared for the emotionally complex dynamic between their characters. 'Aneet and I had chemistry workshops. They were for us to bond with each other. When we have rehearsed, those scenes flow easily," he said. 'It was also to show that we dated for five years. For the backstory in the original script I had read, we had dated for five years and that's a long relationship. It shouldn't have felt that we met 2-3 months ago." On playing a morally grey character, he confessed, 'Of course, it is not easy to play such characters. I am not Mahesh Iyer. That's not how I function… A friend of mine experienced something similar and couldn't stop crying while watching Aneet's performance. Her 7-year-long relationship broke because her partner didn't want to marry and then ghosted her. That's when I realised that people like Mahesh do exist." Directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Yash Raj Films, Saiyaara released in theatres on July 18 and has since crossed Rs 150 crore at the box office.
