Luxury brand Louis Vuitton Korea reports data breach

Time of India05-07-2025
Louis Vuitton has become the latest
luxury
brand in South Korea to suffer a data breach, according to the company on Friday, following recent similar cases involving Dior, Tiffany and Cartier in the country.
In a notice posted on its website, Louis Vuitton Korea informed customers that a third-party entity temporarily accessed the company's systems on June 8 and leaked some customer information, reports Yonhap news agency.
The company said it learnt of the incident on Wednesday. The compromised data may include customer names, contact details and additional information provided by customers, Louis Vuitton said, but stressed that no financial data, such as passwords and credit card numbers, was affected.
The incident is the latest in a string of high-profile data leaks in the luxury sector in South Korea this year.
In May, Dior apologised after discovering a data breach incident that occurred in January. Tiffany also revealed in May that it had suffered a breach in April. Cartier notified customers last month about a separate incident involving leaked personal information.
'Must It', a popular
luxury goods
e-commerce platform in South Korea, also reported two hacking attempts, coming in May and June. The company warned that user data, including names, gender and dates of birth, may have been stolen.
Meanwhile, the South Korean government said on Friday it will fine SK Telecom Co. for belatedly reporting a data breach affecting all 25 million users and ordered it to waive customer cancellation fees, wrapping up its two-month probe into one of the worst data leak cases in the country's history.
SK Telecom belatedly reported the breach in April, in which universal subscriber identity module (USIM) data was potentially leaked during an unidentified cyberattack on its servers. The government inspected all 42,605 of the company's servers and found 28 infected with 33 types of malicious code, the Ministry of Science and ICT said.

South Korea's jailed ex-President Yoon defies probe, removes prison uniform to avoid questioning

Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol refused questioning once again on Friday by stripping off his prison uniform and lying on the floor of his detention cell. read more South Korea's jailed ex-President Yoon Suk Yeol again refused to attend questioning by investigators Friday, using a new method to resist: He took off his prison uniform and lay down on the floor at his detention room. Yoon, removed from office in April over his ill-fated imposition of martial law, was sent back to prison last month as he stands a high-stakes trial over rebellion and other charges. Yoon, a conservative, faces investigations into other criminal allegations that are not related to his Dec. 3 martial law decree but target him, his wife and others. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD On Friday, Min Joong-ki, a special counsel named by his liberal rival and new President Lee Jae Myung, sent investigators to retrieve Yoon from a detention center near Seoul after the former president twice defied requests to attend questioning. Min's team is tasked with delving into allegations surrounding Yoon's wife Kim Keon Hee, including that she and her husband exerted inappropriate influence on the then-ruling party's election nomination process in 2022. Min's team had a court-issued detention warrant that authorized them to bring Yoon out of his detention facility by force, but said they were hoping for his voluntary cooperation. 'Without wearing his prison uniform, the suspect lay down on the floor and strongly resisted his detention,' assistant special counsel Oh Jeong-hee told a televised briefing. Justice Minister Jung Sung-ho separately told lawmakers that Yoon took off his shorts and short-sleeved shirt and put them back on after investigators left. Oh said her team members refrained from using physical means out of safety concerns, but notified Yoon that they would execute the warrant next time. She urged Yoon to cooperate as the Korean people are closely watching whether the enforcement of law is applied to everyone equally. Yu Jeong-hwa, a lawyer for Yoon, accused the special counsel team of trampling on Yoon's dignity and honor by discussing his dress in prison, according to local media reports. Yoon's defense team earlier said Yoon was unable to attend his trial and undergo questioning by investigators because of heath problems. They said in a statement Thursday that Yoon has cardiovascular, autonomic nervous system and eye issues. They cited an unidentified hospital as saying that Yoon faces the risk of blindness because he failed to receive medical treatment for the past three months. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Yoon's imposition of martial law, which brought armed troops into Seoul streets, lasted only several hours before lawmakers voted down his decree unanimously. Yoon has argued his decree was a desperate attempt to draw public support of his fight against the 'wickedness' of Lee's Democratic Party, then the main opposition party which had obstructed his agenda, impeached top officials and slashed the government's proposed budget.

Samsung's JB Park reveals why the company has not yet launched Trifold smartphone

Samsung officially confirmed the existence of its trifold smartphone last month, announcing plans to launch the device by the end of this year. A top executive has now offered insight into why the South Korean tech giant deliberately delayed the commercial release. According to JB Park , president and CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia, the company focused on a more fundamental question before rushing to market: whether consumers would truly see the value in such a product. 'The question is, will we tri-fold it, quadruple it, or why do we need to do it? The first question is, why do we need it? If you unfold the tri-fold or quadruple fold, how big will it be? And why do we need to roll it or fold it? I think the fundamental question is, will consumers see the value of it?' Park told The Times of India Tech in a response to a question about the next evolution of the company's foldable smartphones . Park suggested that the decision to hold back on a trifold smartphone is a strategic one, aimed at avoiding a bulky form factor that doesn't significantly benefit the user. 'If you can carry a laptop, do you want to fold a laptop to make it smaller? If you have a tablet, do you want to fold your tablet to make it smaller?' Park questioned. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Treatment That Might Help You Against Knee Pain (Search Now) Knee Pain Treatment | Search Ads Undo 'I think it really doesn't give a benefit because it becomes so bulky. Yes, the technology is available, but we don't market it. We don't commercialise it, because I don't think it makes sense ,' he explained, soon after the company launched the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7 and Galaxy Z Flip 6SE smartphones at the Galaxy Unpacked event in New York. JB Park on where does AI 'unfolds' in the next era When asked about the next-generation AI features that customers can expect in smartphones in the coming months and in distant future, Park said that Samsung believes will be defined by artificial intelligence (AI). The representative stated that the future of AI will be about on-device AI that is independent of the cloud but can connect to it to perform complex tasks. "Tomorrow, I think it's more of how people are using the AI. Whether it's productivity or coding, engineering or in your academic research when you have to write your term paper, the AI kicks in," he explained. This advanced, on-device AI will be powerful enough to guide users toward better solutions, effectively replacing a laptop for many tasks. Notably, Samsung's newest foldable smartphones – Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 – feature a string of AI tools and features that align with the company's broader focus on delivering a smarter and more meaningful user experience. The company partnered with Google to power Galaxy AI features. Park pointed to a specific example for the Indian market, where its AI could assist with real-time, simultaneous translation for the country's many different dialects. 'That's where I think it will assist on not only in translation. Like in India, you have so many dialects that you need someone to interpret. Tomorrow, it will all be done simultaneously on the devices. So you don't have to memorise things. You don't have to have an opinion of a lawyer or doctor. You just can have a massive intelligence that's connected on your device to a cloud that can guide you to a better solution,' Park noted. The executive concluded by saying that as the AI technology evolves, Samsung will be the pioneer in moving towards that direction. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7: 7 UNMATCHED Features No Other Foldable Has! Hyundai overtakes Mahindra in July, reclaims 2nd spot

Hyundai Motor India climbed to the second position in retail sales for the first time in FY26, overtaking Indian auto majors Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors , as per Vahan data (as of 1:30pm, August 1). The South Korean automaker reported retail sales of 42,661 units in July, allowing it to reclaim its lost market position this fiscal. The contest, however, remained neck-and-neck, with Mahindra & Mahindra slipping to third position with 41,476 units, a marginal difference of just over 1,100 units between the two players. Mahindra's market share dipped from 14 per cent in June (with 42,314 units) to 12.8 per cent in July. The drop comes after the company implemented a price hike of up to 3 per cent across its SUV and commercial vehicle portfolio in Q1 FY26, citing rising input and commodity costs. Hyundai, on the other hand, improved its market share slightly from 12.9 per cent (39,201 units) in June to 13.2 per cent in July. The uptick reflects an easing of supply constraints and a recovery in demand. Tarun Garg, COO of Hyundai Motor India, had earlier acknowledged a challenging Q1 due to geopolitical tensions but expressed confidence in a stronger performance in the upcoming months. Its market share slipped from 12.3 per cent in June to 11.7 per cent in July, continuing its recent trend of fluctuating performance in the passenger vehicle segment. Japan-based automaker Toyota Kirloskar Motor held on to its fifth position in July 2025, recording sales of 24,777 units. The company's market share stood at 7.7 per cent, a marginal dip from 7.8 per cent in June, when it sold 23,665 units. Maruti Suzuki maintained a comfortable lead at the top, retailing 1,28,423 units and capturing nearly 40 per cent of the passenger vehicle market in July. As the festive season approaches, OEMs are expected to ramp up launches and promotions. With margins tightening and demand patterns shifting, the second quarter may see more reshuffling among the top players in India's competitive auto market.
