Emirati designers dazzle at Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show
SHARJAH (WAM) A captivating showcase of handcrafted gold and diamond jewellery by twenty Emirati female designers has drawn significant attention at the 55th Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show, which concludes on Monday at Expo Centre Sharjah.These exquisite pieces were displayed under the 'Emirati Goldsmiths' platform, an initiative by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) aimed at empowering local designers and connecting them with over 500 regional and international exhibitors.This year's platform welcomed new designers from across the UAE, each presenting collections inspired by the country's rich cultural heritage and natural environment. Crafted from gold and gemstones, many designs incorporated traditional 'Talli' handicrafts in innovative, modern forms, blending heritage with contemporary artistry. Among the most talked-about creations were the 'Zayed Lantern,' the 'Palm Necklace,' the 'Well' design, and the 'Emirati Dama'a,' all recognised for their originality and exceptional craftsmanship.Chairman of the SCCI and Expo Centre Sharjah, Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, reiterated the Chamber's commitment to supporting young Emirati talents and enhancing their role in the national economy, particularly in the vibrant gold and jewellery sector. He noted that the 'Emirati Goldsmiths' platform has become a strategic hub for nurturing female designers, with around 400 members from all emirates now part of the initiative.CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, emphasised the event's status as a leading destination for the jewellery and watch industry.He praised the remarkable participation of Emirati women this year, highlighting the artistic excellence and high calibre of their contributions.Director of the Executive Office of the SCCI Chairman and head of the Emirati Goldsmiths Platform, Mona Sultan Al Suwaidi, expressed pride in the progress made by several returning participants. She explained that many of them have grown into key exhibitors and successfully launched brands that now hold strong positions in the local market.This, she noted, is a testament to the platform's positive impact and its ability to support long-term professional development.Founder of Noul Jewellery, Mohra Al Muhairbi, made her debut at the show with distinctive pieces that blend traditional Emirati heritage with a modern flair. Her creations, including the 'Zayed Lamp' and 'Emirati Dama'a,' incorporated 'Talli' motifs crafted in gold and adorned with precious stones.Designer Sawsan Al Jaberi, based in Abu Dhabi, drew inspiration from the image of a water well to symbolise strength, depth, and hope. These values were reflected in her elegant jewellery crafted from 18-karat gold and carefully selected gemstones.The youngest designer on the Emirati Goldsmiths Platform, Mira Youssef Al-Muhairi, presented a gold piece shaped like a palm tree.
She was inspired by a visit to Khalid Lagoon in Sharjah, where the reflection of palm trees sparked the idea for a modern design that captures the beauty of the Emirati landscape.

Building and empowering informed generations In this context, Hussein Murad Al Belushi, Director of the Dibba Al Hisn Youth Centre, emphasised that the centre was keen to provide an exceptional summer experience that combines interactive learning with practical experiences, taking into account the interests and aspirations of young people. This is achieved through innovative methods that enhance their personalities and provide them with real opportunities to master new skills, in line with the Sharjah Youth vision of building and empowering informed and influential generations . Al Belushi added, "The centre's activities are diverse, including sports and fitness, cultural and artistic events, as well as workshops, developmental training, and exploratory trips to prominent landmarks in the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE. These activities aim to enhance teamwork, develop technical and artistic skills, and instil values of self-confidence and responsibility in a stimulating and safe environment . Conclusion of the Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival 2025
The Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival, organized by the Ajman Department of Tourism Development (ADTD), under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, concluded its 10th edition, which was held in the Emirates Hospitality Center from July 30 to August 3. The current edition witnessed wide Gulf participation, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Sultanate of Oman, Jordan and Egypt, in addition to an elite group of participants from governmental and private entities, promoting the festival's position as a leading regional platform for celebrating agricultural and heritage production, and enhancing cultural communication between the peoples of Arab countries. The festival's latest edition features an eclectic array of events such as art performances and competitions across diverse categories and age groups. The agenda also included educational sessions on palm cultivation and beekeeping methods, along with a series of training workshops on local handicrafts, and a children's corner for hosting artistic events, competitions and educational activities. The 10th edition hosted a series of workshops, most notably drawing on palm trunk, medal making using weaving techniques, the diamond coloring workshop, Suroud decoration workshop, Al Jafeer decorating workshop, and many others. It also held daily auctions for dates, honey and various traditional artefacts, part of the proceeds of which will be allocated to charity, in addition to traditional events that highlighted the Emirati culture. The event attracted widespread participation from the country's emirates, through its unique contests featuring various categories, including the Emirates of Ajman, North Emirates, Other Emirates, Citrus & Fruits, and Hoey Contest. Date contests covered the most well-known types, such as Khalas, Berhi, Lulu, Khenaizy, and Ajman Palms, while honey contests included types like Sumar, Crystallized, Sidr, Beeswax, and many others and Fruit contests included lemon, mango, and almond, figs, and Citrus. The 10th Liwa Ajman Dates and Honey Festival featured 61 exhibitors from across the nation, including farmers, beekeepers, entrepreneurs and business owners, in addition to representatives from various government and private entities. UAE and Moldova agree to mutual entry visa exemptions
The UAE and Moldova have signed a mutual visa waiver agreement during a meeting in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
