Boca raced into a 2-0 lead through Miguel Merential and Rodrigo Battaglia.
Benfica fought back to draw the game after goals from Angel Di Maria and Nicolas Otamendi.
However, it was the poor discipline on show that added to the excitement of the clash.
Former Manchester United star Ander Herrera was shown a red card despite having been subbed off, while Andrea Belotti was dismissed for Benfica.
Jorge Figal was also sent off by referee Cesar Arturo Ramos in the closing stages.
But there was some confusion as the Mexican official appeared to flash either a bank note or a playing card when showing the red.
Fans were left stunned by the bizarre scenes as they reacted on social media.
One posted: "Joker tournament anyway."

A fourth guessed: "It's an image of the Virgin of Guadalupe - a religious symbol in Mexico."
A fifth joked: "Probably the keycard to his hotel room."
Another added: "Glorious haha."
Ramos quickly realised his gaffe as he could be seen grabbing the item and put it back into his pocket.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are the only English team to have played in the tournament so far.
The Blues ran out 2-0 winners against MLS outfit LAFC but tempers flared in that match too.
Goalscorer Pedro Neto had to be held back from scrapping with Denis Bouanga.

Cole Palmer parties in Ibiza as O Beach Club throws him lavish 'champion' celebration after Chelsea's Club World Cup win - just days since he and his girlfriend Connie Grace unfollowed each other on social media
Cole Palmer has thrown off his shackles and taken the plunge in Ibiza, visiting one of the party island's most decadent venues. Last week Mail Sport joined Cole Palmer as he visited his ancestral home of St Kitts in the Caribbean and now he is living it up at the Ocean Beach Club. The Chelsea star is enjoying some precious time off after scoring two goals in the final of the Club World Cup, which the Blues won 3-0 against PSG. And Palmer was pictured lounging on a sofa with O Beach founder Tony Truman and his daughter, Kiki Truman, 20, who he had with Eastenders legend Charlie Brooks. Palmer was decked out with a chain, a plain white tee-shirt, camouflage shorts, and trainers. Even the couch they were sat on tapped into the hedonism of the destination, with Grey Goose vodka's logo adorning the design. The Ocean beach club threw a celebratory party for the 'world champ' after Chelsea's Club World Cup triumph In spectacular fashion, O Beach threw a special celebration for Palmer, hiring dancers to hold up letter signs spelling out 'world champ' and dancing for him. Ibiza is a popular haunt for the 23-year-old - last summer he was spotted with his girlfriend Connie Grace, who he met aged 17 in Manchester. However, the duo have unfollowed each other on Instagram in recent days, leading to speculation that they have split up. It has been an eventful summer for Palmer, who wore a look of bewilderment as Donald Trump gatecrashed Chelsea's Club World Cup trophy lift at the MetLife Stadium. 'I knew he was going to be here but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy so I was a bit confused, yeah,' he admitted. At least he has some time to get over that confusion until his next engagement with Chelsea, who begin their pre-season against Bayer Leverkusen on August 8. Due to the fact the Club World Cup occupied them until mid-July, the Blues will only have the Leverkusen friendly and one against AC Milan before their Premier League season kicks off against Crystal Palace on August 17. Palmer does not need to worry about that tight squeeze for now and has been letting his hair down in Ibiza, which is a popular haunt for the football crowd. Palmer's partner Grace jetted out to the US while he was playing in the tournament He scored 18 goals in all competitions last season as Chelsea also won the Conference League Jack Grealish is one of the many footballers who travels to O Beach to enjoy his time away from the game Liverpool boss Arne Slot was kissed on the cheek by Wayne Lineker on a trip to the club Lineker is known for partying his way through the summer with hundreds of guests each day Arne Slot was seen celebrating Liverpool's title out there in May while the likes of Jack Grealish, Wayne Rooney, and Frank Lampard have all enjoyed it down the years. Gary Lineker's brother Wayne was involved in the launch of O Beach in 2012 and has become a popular figure for footballers to spend time with. Jude Bellingham is one of the latest high-profile footballers to have been welcomed to the venue with open arms by Wayne. The Real Madrid star, 21, chose to celebrate his brother Jobe's promotion to the Premier League with Sunderland in Ibiza. Grealish is a regular at Ocean Beach with Lineker once joking about the prospect of a four-week loan deal for the Manchester City man at his beach club, following his omission from the England Euro 2024 squad.

How to watch Arsenal vs AC Milan: Live stream and kick-off time for pre-season match
Arsenal kick off their 2025/26 pre-season with a blockbuster friendly against AC Milan in Singapore, marking the start of their Asia tour. The Gunners, eager to end a five-year trophy drought after another second-place Premier League finish, have bolstered their squad with several high-profile signings this summer. Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard have added technical quality and much-needed depth in midfield, while Noni Madueke will be hoping to challenge Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli for a starting spot on the wings. Kepa Arrizabalaga has also arrived to provide cover for No. 1 goalkeeper David Raya. Arsenal remain in the market for a striker, with a blockbuster move for Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres still in play. However, with negotiations still ongoing, supporters may have to wait until next month for a potential unveiling of the Swedish international. Their pre-season opener won't be easy. Milan, now boasting the legendary Luka Modric in midfield, will provide a formidable early test. Here, Mirror Football brings you everything you need to know - from match details and how to watch, to the latest Arsenal team news. When is kick-off for Arsenal vs AC Milan? Arsenal vs AC Milan takes place on Wednesday, July 23 at 12:30pm UK time, 7:30pm local time at the National Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. The 55,000-capacity venue sets an appropriately lavish stage for the Gunners' first match of their Asia tour. How can I watch Arsenal vs AC Milan? The match will not be broadcast on UK television but can be streamed live on and the official Arsenal app. An early bird pass costs £4.99 until 9am BST on July 23, rising to £9.99 thereafter. Their pre-season pass, covering this game and four others (Newcastle, Tottenham, Athletic Club, and Villarreal), is available for £14.99. Repeat showings are available every three hours post-match. What's the Arsenal team news? Summer signings Zubimendi, Norgaard and Kepa are all in line to make their debuts. Madueke, however, has not travelled with the squad. This is because he is owed time off after taking part in Chelsea's Club World Cup campaign. Gabriel Jesus remains sidelined, recovering from a knee injury sustained last season, with an expected return in August. Elsewhere, academy prospects like Max Dowman could see minutes, as could fellow youngsters Ismael Kabia, Louie Copley, Josh Nichols, Andre Harriman-Annous and Marli Salmon, who have all also flown out. As for Milan, Modric will not be taking part in the game as, like Madueke, he has not travelled after competing for Real Madrid at the Club World Cup. Ex-Chelsea trio Fikayo Tomori, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic are all expected to be involved though, as is Portugal superstar Rafael Leao. What are Arsenal's pre-season fixtures? After AC Milan, Arsenal face Newcastle in Singapore, followed by a north London derby against Tottenham in Hong Kong. The squad will then fly home before facing Villarreal and Athletic Club at the Emirates Stadium ahead of their crunch Premier League opener away at Manchester United on August 17. Here is Arsenal's pre-season fixture list in full: What is Arsenal and AC Milan's head-to-head? Milan may be one of Europe's most decorated clubs, but Arsenal have enjoyed the upper hand in recent meetings. In eight previous encounters, the Gunners have claimed four victories and suffered just two defeats. More impressively, Arsenal have won their last three games against the Italian giants - and four of the last five overall. Their most recent clash came in the 2017/18 Europa League round of 16, where Arsenal cruised to a 5-1 aggregate win, securing a 2-0 victory at the San Siro before finishing the job with a 3-1 triumph at the Emirates.
