JAZAN: Land patrols of the Saudi Border Guard in the Al-Dayer area of Jazan Province have arrested 10 Ethiopian violators of the law for smuggling 200 kg of the narcotic plant qat. Initial legal procedures have been completed against the offenders. Authorities also foiled the smuggling of 11 kg of hashish in Al-Aridhah Governorate in Jazan. The confiscated items were handed over to the competent authority. Elsewhere, authorities in Eastern Province arrested a resident of Egyptian nationality for promoting hashish. He was detained, legal procedures taken against him, and he was referred to the competent authority. Security authorities urge citizens and residents to report any information related to drug smuggling or trafficking activities by calling 911 in the regions of Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, and 999 in the rest of the Kingdom's regions, or by contacting the General Directorate of Narcotics Control on 995, or via email.

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Saudi security authorities have arrested 20 drug smugglers in massive security operations carried out across the Kingdom within the last 24 hours. Those arrested include citizens and violators of border security regulations. The arrests were made in the regions of Tabuk, Asir, the Northern Borders, and Jazan, for their involvement in promoting or smuggling narcotics. In the Tabuk region, the General Directorate of Narcotics Control arrested six citizens and Egyptian residents for promoting hashish and amphetamine, in addition to pills subject to medical circulation regulations. In the Asir region, a citizen was arrested for promoting 8,000 pills subject to medical circulation regulations. In the Northern Borders region, two citizens were arrested for promoting hashish and amphetamine. As part of efforts to combat cross-border smuggling attempts, Border Guard land patrols teams in the Dhahran Al-Janoub sector in the Asir region arrested five Ethiopian border security violators, who were in possession of 52 kilograms of hashish. Border Guard patrols in Al-Daer sector in the Jazan region also arrested four Ethiopian violators for smuggling 80 kilograms of khat, while security patrols in Al-Farsha governorate in the Asir region foiled an attempt to smuggle 28 kilograms of khat. The security authorities confirmed that they had completed the initial legal procedures against those involved, and handed them over, along with the seized items, to the competent authorities. They were then referred to the Public Prosecution. The authorities emphasized their continued pursuit of anyone who would threaten the security of society. They called upon citizens and residents to report any information they have about any activities related to drug smuggling or trafficking, by calling the numbers 911 in the regions of Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, and the number 999 in the rest of the Saudi regions. The information can also be passed to the General Directorate of Narcotic Control over the number 995, the authorities said while noting that all reports will be dealt with in complete confidentiality.

Saudi authorities intensify efforts against drug traffickers and dealers

RIYADH: Saudi authorities have made numerous drug-related arrests throughout the Kingdom recently, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday. Border Guard patrols in Al-Dayer, Jazan region, arrested eight Yemenis trying to smuggle in a total of 240 kg of qat in multiple separate attempts. The same sector also saw authorities thwart the attempted smuggling of 42 kg of hashish. In another attempt, land patrols in Al-Dayer prevented the smuggling in of 54 kg of hashish, 343,000 tablets regulated for medical use, and 2,000 amphetamine tablets. In Jazan's Fifa governorate, security patrols arrested two Ethiopians smuggling 35 kg of qat. In Al-Raboah, Asir region, Border Guard patrols arrested five Yemenis and Ethiopians smuggling 100 kg of qat and also prevented the smuggling in of a further 280 kg of qat. Also in Asir, a Sudanese resident was arrested with 125 kg of qat in Dhahran Al-Janoub, and an Ethiopian with 46 kg of qat in Al-Farsha. Security patrols in the Eastern Province arrested an Indian resident for selling heroin. Patrols from the General Directorate of Mujahideen in Jazan arrested two Ethiopians selling hashish, amphetamine, and regulated pills. The General Directorate of Narcotics Control arrested four citizens in the Eastern Province for the possession of 108 kg of hashish and for selling regulated tablets. Officials also arrested two Yemenis in Najran for selling amphetamines, locally known as shabu. Preliminary legal procedures were completed in all cases, and all seized items have been handed to the relevant authorities, the SPA reported. Authorities have urged the public to report drug smuggling or sales by calling 911 in Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, or 999 in other regions. Reports can also be submitted confidentially to the General Directorate of Narcotics Control via email at [email protected] or by calling 995.
