‘No right to check food': UP chief secy warns vigilantes on kanwar route

Time of India6 hours ago
Meerut: UP chief secretary Manoj Singh and DGP Rajeev Krishna issued stern warnings on Tuesday against vigilante behaviour, especially those conducting unauthorised checks at eateries and roadside dhabas on the kanwar route in the name of religious sentiments.
During a high-level review meeting at the Commissionerate auditorium in Meerut to assess preparations for kanwar yatra, Singh said, "No group or individual has the authority to check food at any hotel or dhaba. This responsibility lies solely with the food safety department." DGP Krishna, who accompanied him from Lucknow, was present on the occasion.
"Food safety department has been directed to ensure availability of pure vegetarian food at all public eateries and camps," Singh added.
Regarding pilgrims travelling by train, Singh said that discussions were held with railway officials and "no one will be allowed to travel on train rooftops under any circumstances."
Krishna, meanwhile, imposed strict restrictions on the sound levels of DJs, declaring that no kanwar-related music system will be allowed to exceed 75 decibels. Additionally, kanwars must not exceed 10 feet in height and 12 feet in width.

He added: "The large DJ set ups will be restricted to city bypasses, and will not be allowed inside urban areas." Referring to last year's turnout of nearly 4 crore kanwariyas, he said the number is expected to be higher this year.
The DGP has also directed strict drone surveillance, route diversions and close monitoring of anti-social elements along the kanwar yatra routes. DMs and SSPs will soon conduct on-ground inspections of the pilgrimage routes and submit a detailed action plan.
Besides UP, officials from Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Haryana also took part in the meeting. The kanwar yatra is set to begin with the onset of the month of Sawan on July 11.

Kevay Mata temple ropeway project gets final approval, work set to begin soon

Jaipur: The much-anticipated ropeway to Kevay Mata Temple, located atop a hill in Kinlaria village of Parbatsar tehsil, received final approval from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change. With this clearance, groundwork for the project is set to begin soon, and it is expected to be completed within 1.5 years. The proposed ropeway will connect the foothills of Kinlaria village to the temple site at the summit, offering a convenient and time-saving travel option for pilgrims and visitors. The project received final forest clearance under the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980. An official said, "As per the approval, 0.7712 hectare of forest land has been marked for diversion for the construction of the ropeway. This includes 0.2341 hectare for the lower terminal station, 0.4556 hectare for the upper terminal station, and 0.0815 hectares for six tower foundations." The forest department submitted the proposal for land diversion, which was reviewed and recommended by the state-level empowered committee before being forwarded to the central govt for final sanction. "After multiple rounds of scrutiny and compliance with all legal requirements, the project received the green light," the official added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? Noida proposes 3 names for its e-bus service

Noida: Noida Authority has proposed three names for its fleet of 500 e-buses that are to be rolled out across Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway region this year. Officials said the three shortlisted names—NGY Urban Mobility Service, GBN Easy Ride Service and GBN Green Transport—have been submitted to the UP govt for vetting, but the branding would reflect a larger vision to reshape urban mobility in the region. The electric bus project gained momentum last month after two private operators were finalised for procuring buses, managing operations and maintaining depot infrastructure. Travel Time Mobility India Pvt Ltd will run 250 nine-metre buses at Rs 55 per km, while Delbus Mobility Pvt Ltd will operate 250 12-metre buses at Rs 68 per km. Authorities estimate that each bus could travel up to 300 km daily. UP has proposed a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), comprising officials from Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna authorities, including finance and traffic cell members, to manage the service. Once registered, the SPV will oversee staffing and service rollout for a 12-year term. The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen Noida's public transport ecosystem, providing reliable, eco-friendly alternatives to private vehicles. Routes have been designed to improve last-mile connectivity, reduce congestion, and serve key hubs including the upcoming Noida International Airport. While the project's total cost stands at Rs 675 crore, fare and ad revenue is expected to cover only a fraction of operational expenses. Authorities anticipate an annual revenue of Rs 145 crore against operating costs of over Rs 370 crore.
