Dancer, 12, celebrates double world championship win

Isla won twice at the World Freestyle Championships in Blackpool [Family handout] A 12-year-old girl says it was "mind-blowing" to walk away from a dance competition as a double world champion. Isla, from Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset, competed at the World Freestyle Championships at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool on 28 and 29 June. Advertisement She entered the freestyle solo and slow dance categories, facing up to 60 dancers from countries including South Africa, Ireland and Norway. Isla, who trains at Dynamics School of Dance in Bristol, said: "It's like living in a dream." Isla's mother said her daughter's achievement at this age was "crazy" [Family handout] Isla's mother Fiona said she was "absolutely shocked" by the result, especially as her daughter had only recently taken up dance. "To achieve something like this, being so young, is crazy," she said. Fiona said her daughter was so nervous after a win on the Saturday of the competition as she waited to compete in a final the next day. Advertisement "She told me she couldn't feel her legs… and slipped on her opening move... so to win from that, we just weren't expecting it at all," she added. Isla said winning both titles feels like she is "living in a dream" [Family handout] Emma Mounter, head of Dynamics School of Dance, said: "Everyone at the dance school is just super proud. "She's extremely hard working and anything we throw at her, she takes on the chin and works exceptionally hard." Isla said she was grateful to her dance teachers Ms Mounter and Maizie Rugman, and her sponsor Alex Weston "for everything they have done to help me achieve this". Her mother said she was not sure when it would sink in but "we can't wait to see what's ahead for Isla". Advertisement Follow BBC Bristol on Facebook, X and Instagram. PHOTOS: Big crowds for Stourbridge Carnival 2025

STOURBRIDGE Town Centre was packed full of people on Sunday for the annual carnival. The popular event saw live entertainment, an array of food vendors and stalls, children's rides, and more take over the town centre. There was also a display of classic cars, which delighted vintage motor enthusiasts. Although there was rain pouring down in the morning, it fortunately held off for the carnival. Stourbridge MP Cat Eccles said on Facebook: "The rain didn't dampen people's spirits at Stourbridge Carnival. Jason Griffin and I really enjoyed the day, especially the musical entertainment at the two stages and from the brilliant Bhangra Smash Up on the parade". Check out our photo gallery from the day.

Panel Of 2024 Labour Voters Name The 1 Turning Point They Began To Like Farage

A panel of 2024 Labour voters said they started to like Reform UK after watching its leader Nigel Farage on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!. Back in late 2023 before he was elected to parliament, Farage caused a huge stir by appearing in the hit reality TV show. Even the programme's hosts Ant and Dec urged producers to take a break from having politicians as contestants. But, Farage still won over voters and ended up in third place. More than 18 months later, a panel of voters who backed Labour last July told pollsters that his appearance on the show marked the moment they started warming up to the MP for Clacton. In footage aired by the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, one voter told pollsters More in Common: 'I really like Reform. 'I didn't [like him], but it was I'm A Celeb... which turned my head for Nigel. 'I really saw a different side to him and I think he's very misunderstood.' 'He's more relatable to people, to the average person,' another woman said. 'Whereas some politicians at the present seem far removed, they're so in another world, because they are public school educated, they can't relate to the average person.' However, a different person did jump in at this point, saying: 'Nigel Farage was publicly educated, while Keir Starmer is working class but he does present that. 'So Nigel Farage puts on this image of being one of the people, but actually he went to private school.' Even so, some voters suggested they would fire Starmer for his 'disappointing' performance over the last year unless he starts to 'try harder'. Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid also told the BBC that this conversation demonstrated how voters 'need to feel a material difference in their lives'. She noted that they are still struggling with food inflation and cost of living, so the 'government are getting this wrong'. 'Perhaps Sir Keir Starmer needs to go on I'm A Celebrity... or Strictly, in order for voters to know who he is,' Reid suggested. 'The words that kept coming out of their mouths were: I don't know who he is.' "I'm A Celebrity turned my head for Nigel [Farage]"Some focus group members think Reform UK's leader is different from "public school-educated" politicians, but another points out Nigel Farage was privately educated and Keir Starmer was not#BBCLauraKhttps:// — BBC Politics (@BBCPolitics) July 6, 2025 The focus group's findings were published to mark the anniversary of Labour's landslide victory in the general election as political pundits look at how Starmer has fallen down in the polls ever since. Sky News had its own devastating way of portraying Labour's first year in office with some brutal word clouds, again from More in Common. The pollsters asked the public: 'In a word or two, what would you say has been Labour's biggest achievement in government?' The largest word by a healthy margin was 'nothing', although – in much smaller fonts – NHS, welfare, winter, election and Ukraine were all visible too.
