Trafficking agent held for sending Punjab man to US via donkey route
The passenger, Navjot Singh from Mansa, who had paid ₹41 lakh to the accused agent Jagjeet Singh alias Jassa, was recently deported from the US after spending five months at a detention centre there. He was arrested in Delhi last week for allegedly cheating Indian immigration by using a tampered passport.
Additional commissioner of police (IGI Airport) Usha Rangnani said Singh was deported in the early hours of June 4. During immigration checks, officials found discrepancies in the stamps on his passport, including unverifiable entries from Kenya and Europe. The passport, they concluded, had been doctored with forged immigration stamps to fake a travel history.
'Navjot has disclosed to us that he planned to go to the US for better employment prospects. Last year, Navjot came in contact with an agent, Jagjeet Singh, who promised to facilitate his illegal entry into the US with the assistance of his associates, in exchange for a payment of ₹41 lakh. Navjot claimed that he paid the amount in cash and bank transfers,' said Rangnani.
He was first flown to Kenya from Mumbai on a tourist visa, where he met an associate of the agent. There, officials said, forged Schengen visas and stamps were pasted onto his passport. Singh then flew to Mexico via Istanbul and Madrid and finally crossed into the US through the Tijuana border, allegedly assisted by the same network of traffickers.
Police have booked both Singh and Jassa and are probing further links in the trafficking ring.

Last Sunday, a 32-year-old Indian-origin man, Santosh Yadav, was attacked by six teenagers in his Dublin apartment, leaving him with a fractured cheekbone. In a separate attack, a 40-year-old Indian man was beaten and stripped by a group of teenagers, raising concerns over the surge in racially motivated violence in the country. The authorities are now investigating the matter as a potential hate crime case. 'The recurrence of attacks on innocent, highly qualified technical experts and professionals has caused widespread fear among the community all over Ireland,' an Embassy official told The Indian Express over phone. 'The wellbeing of the Indian community is a matter of high priority to the embassy and the Ministry of External Affairs. The matter has been taken up with the relevant Irish authorities in Dublin and also in Delhi,' the official said. The embassy is also in touch with the wider Indian community and has assured them of every possible assistance compatible with diplomatic norms and constraints, the official said. Teresa Buczkowska, CEO of the Immigrant Council of Ireland, was quoted as saying by a Dublin-based news outlet, Dublin Live, that it appeared that the Indian community was a particular focus, but those attacks were definitely not limited to that community. Delhi Police Ban Sub-Conventional Aerial Platforms Ahead Of Independence Day
New Delhi: Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh on Saturday ordered a ban on sub-conventional aerial platforms across the national capital from August 2 to August 16 in view of security preparations related to the upcoming Independence Day. According to the order, flying aerial devices such as paragliders, para-motors, hang-gliders, UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), UASs (Unmanned Aircraft Systems), microlight aircraft, hot air balloons, small-sized powered aircraft, quadcopters, and remotely piloted aircraft has been banned under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. The order said that such aerial platforms may pose a threat to public safety, VIPs, and critical installations in Delhi during the sensitive period around August 15. This is Singh's first order as the new Delhi Police Commissioner. The ban is aimed at preventing their possible misuse by anti-social and terrorist elements, including for para-jumping or launching airborne attacks. The prohibition will remain in force for 15 days, starting from August 2 and ending on August 16, unless withdrawn earlier, the order said. Security agencies are already on high alert across the capital as preparations for the 78th Independence Day event at the Red Fort are underway.

Kolkata: The Bangladeshi model, Shanta Pal, who was recently arrested from a rented accommodation in Bikramgarh, had established an elaborate network of businesses and acquired multiple Indian documents after her visa expired in 2021, cops said. She operated these businesses with her husband — an Andhra Pradesh man — whom she allegedly married online, an officer said. The foreign ministry has also confirmed Pal's visa expiration to Lalbazar.
