Andy Staples names Notre Dame's Mike Denbrock as one of the nation's top OC's
We saw the impact that offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock had in his first season with Notre Dame last fall, helping guide them all the way to the College Football Playoff championship game.
Now that the majority of the returning players have a year of knowing the offense under their belts, there is plenty of potential that the Irish could have a sleeping giant on offense. On3's Andy Staples sees that it very well could be the case, and named Denbrock as his No. 2 offensive coordinator in the game behind only Oregon's Will Stein.
Denbrock had the Notre Dame offense humming last fall, scoring 36.1 points-per-game, which was good for No. 8 nationally. The Irish averaged just short of 400 yards-per-game, with impeccable balance, as both the rushing and passing yards were right about at 200-per contest.
This coming season will be a much different task, as Notre Dame is still deciding on which quarterback, CJ Carr or Kenny Minchey, will lead the offense this fall. Denbrock will have his work cut out for him, but if he can replicate the success that the Irish had on offense last year, he'll be worth every penny.

2026 5-star Edge will announce his commitment on Tuesday, July 31
One of Texas A&M's priority prospects in the 2026 recruiting class is set to announce his commitment, as five-star edge Anthony "Tank" Jones will reportedly choose between the Aggies, Alabama, and Oregon on Thursday, July 31. Jones will make his announcement on The Pat McAfee Show, which airs Monday-Friday at 12:00 p.m. While one of the tighter recruiting races will come to an end, there is always a chance that the Alabama native could flip his commitment in the coming month before Early Signing Day on December 4. However, the feeling is that this will be his final choice, and according to 247Sports insider Tom Loy, Texas A&M still has a very good chance to land the standout pass rusher. While Oregon looked long a longshot to win the race, the Ducks have received a prediction to land Jones, which does make sense after losing five-star edge Richard Wesley to the Texas Longhorns. Still, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko and defensive line coaches Tony Jerod-Eddie and Sean Spencer have developed a strong relationship with Jones, which still holds an advantage. "They are doing a really good job. They are getting the program back to where it used to be. I like the direction of where they are headed." Loy also noted that Jones is a "big fan" of Mike Elko and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman, and that, due to these strong relationships, the staff should feel good heading into Thursday, despite Loy's prediction for Oregon to beat out the Aggies and Crimson Tide. Unlike five-star DL Lamar Brown, who stayed home and committed to LSU, Texas A&M and Oregon look like the two programs with the best shot right now. MSU basketball drops in updated 'Bracketology' from ESPN's Joe Lunardi
We are months away from tipping off the next college basketball season, but, hey, it's never too early for bracketology, right? ESPN's Joe Lunardi has released an updated batch of bracketology for the 2026 NCAA Tournament and to no surprise Michigan State is safely in the field of 68. But the Spartans did slip since the last time Lunardi released a bracket projection earlier this offseason. Lunardi currently has Michigan State as the No. 5 seed in the East Region with a first round matchup against Missouri Valley Conference champion Illinois State in Buffalo. In this projected bracket, Michigan State would face the winner of No. 4 seed Arkansas and No. 13 seed Miami (OH) should they knock off Illinois State in the first round. Michigan State is looking to continue the hot play from last year's Big Ten championship season and Elite Eight finish next season. The Spartans have widely been projected as a top 25 team in the preseason polls for next year so Lunardi's projection of a No. 5 seed is aligned with the national media. Oklahoma GM Jim Nagy doles high praise for Jaydn Ott
Much of the focus on Oklahoma football's hoped-for return to greatness has been on quarterback John Mateer. Sooners general manager Jim Nagy praised Mateer's mate in the backfield, running back Jaydn Ott. Ott transferred to OU from California-Berkeley, where he was a first-team All-Pac 12 player two seasons ago. A lingering ankle injury last season limited Ott to just 385 yards on 116 carries, and he entered the transfer portal after the season. Nagy thinks if Ott had been healthy, he'd have gone to the NFL instead. Thus, the Sooners jumped on him. "If he were healthy last year, he would be in the National Football League right now," Nagy told Crain and Co. at SEC media days. "He'd be starting on Sundays. I think he's an NFL starter. So when you get an opportunity, when you see Jadyn Ott go in the portal, like, man, we've got to be aggressive here." In 2023, Ott ran 1,315 yards with 12 touchdowns on 246 carries. If healthy in 2025, those kinds of numbers previously suggest not only is Ott a talented back, but a workhorse. And Nagy believes Ott is ready to roll when Oklahoma's season gets underway August 30 against Illinois State. "He looks like a million bucks," Nagy said. "He's working his tail off. His teammates are all fired up about him. ... He's been awesome. He's in great shape. Can't wait to get the pads on and watch him go." Even if Ott doesn't run upwards of 250 times, Oklahoma should be fine in the backfield. The team's three leading running back rushers from last year - Jovantae Barnes, Taylor Tatum and Xavier Robinson - all return, as well. None of the three stood out as natural No. 1 last year, but with four different, experienced players at the position, plus Mateer's running ability, the Sooners' offense looks a lot scarier. "We love our running back room, we have good running backs in there," Nagy said. "But when you have an opportunity to get a game-changer, I mean, Jaydn Ott can score from anywhere on the field."
