Govt to take measures to declare Kabir Das Jayanti a Gazette holiday: J-K LG Manoj Sinha
He reiterated that the Government of India is committed to ensuring reservation in promotion. He also emphasised Kabir's idea of 'Sarva Dharma Sambhava', which advocates for the co-existence of different faiths.
In his address, the Lieutenant Governor paid homage to Sant Kabir and highlighted his profound societal impact.
'Kabir was an enlightened spiritual master who had stressed the idea of the co-existence of faiths - Sarva Dharma Sambhava- and dedicated his life to spreading the message of unity, brotherhood and social harmony,' LG Sinha said.
'Kabir is the epitome of humanity. Kabir is a unique mystic of saints' tradition. Kabir embodies purity of heart. Kabir showers unparalleled bliss and a total experience of awareness. Kabir is the fragrance of our eternal values. Kabir is the confluence in which all the ideologies and paths of worship meet and merge,' the Lieutenant Governor added.
In his address, the Lieutenant Governor called upon the people to follow Sant Kabir's teachings and show equal respect for all sections of society and all faiths.
He observed that Sant Kabir's profound message and divine verses, reflecting on various social issues and challenges, are as relevant today as ever.
'India has been home for centuries to seekers from different religions, and this spirit of brotherhood and social and religious diversities has become our strength. We must learn from the wisdom of Sant Kabir to preserve and nurture our ancient values, Sanskar of our ancient living civilisation and our priceless knowledge system. We must reach out to every citizen in J&K and inculcate and reinforce these values in new generation,' the Lieutenant Governor said.
LG Sinha also shared the efforts of the J&K administration to provide equal opportunities and a dignified life to all citizens.
Responding to the demands, the Lieutenant Governor assured appropriate measures to declare Sant Kabir Das Ji Jayanti a Gazette holiday. He reiterated that the Government of India is committed to ensuring reservation in promotion.
He further assured necessary intervention in meeting the demand for establishing a community hall for Sant Kabir Samaj.
The Lieutenant Governor also spoke on the significant role of the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) in bringing a new agricultural revolution in J&K and transforming the lives of 13 lakh farming families, with a dedicated focus on marginal and small farmers.
The past eleven years, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have marked a period of unprecedented change and growth for Indian agriculture, driven by a holistic vision to make farming more profitable, sustainable, and globally competitive, the LG further added.
Rajeev Bhagat, Bishnah MLA; Prof Gharu Ram Bhagat, Suchetgarh MLA; prominent citizens, community leaders, members of various organisations, and people from all walks of life were present on the occasion. (ANI)

The sports ministry has prepared a roadmap for the implementation of the wide-ranging aspects addressed by the policy document and a monitoring group comprising the sports, education and culture ministries will be set up for development of sports at the grassroots. While the government acknowledges the role states have in education, and sports in these institutions, the ministry sources also said: 'Sports is a state subject but international sports is a central subject.' A Khelo India Water Sports Festival will be held in Srinagar's Dal Lake from August 21-23.

Delhi urges air quality panel to halt fuel ban on old vehicles, cites operational hurdles
The Delhi government on Thursday urged the Commission for Air Quality Management to suspend its order banning the supply of fuel to old vehicles in the national capital, citing several operational and infrastructural challenges, ANI reported. In a letter to the air quality panel, Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that the 'immediate implementation' of the ban may 'be premature and potentially counterproductive'. The ban, which came into effect on Tuesday, was enforced to phase out end-of-life vehicles to tackle air pollution. Under the directive, petrol vehicles over 15 years old and diesel vehicles over 10 years old would no longer be allowed to refuel. To enforce the ban, automatic number plate recognition cameras were installed at nearly 350 petrol pumps across the national capital to detect such vehicles, The Hindu reported. On Thursday, Sirsa told the Commission for Air Quality Management that the system was not working properly at several locations, The Indian Express reported. 'There are several technical glitches in the system, which include wrong placement of cameras, faulty sensors, non-functional speakers and improper sound output,' the newspaper quoted the letter as saying. The minister added that the automatic number plate recognition system needed more testing and correction before it could be implemented. He urged the air quality panel to put the ban on hold till the system was 'seamlessly integrated across the entire NCR and is technologically consistent'. The letter also said that the system was not integrated with the vehicular data of neighbouring states in the National Capital Region, which made it ineffective in identifying outside vehicles that entered the capital for refuelling, The Indian Express reported. Several vehicles without High Security Registration Plates were also not being detected by the camera, the minister said. These registration plates are mandatory for all vehicles and feature unique security elements such as a chromium hologram and laser-etched identification number. Sirsa also noted that implementing the ban only in Delhi would be unfair. 'Implementation in only Delhi will dilute the impact and shift the burden unfairly,' the letter said. There was 'public discontent and outcry' due to the 'technological inconsistencies of this extremely complex system and lack of integration with neighbouring states', the minister added. On Tuesday, 80 end-of-life vehicles were seized and 98 that could not be impounded were issued notices, according to The Indian Express. Delhi has more than 62 lakh end-of-life vehicles, the Hindustan Times cited data from the government's VAHAN database as having indicated.

On a viral video of a shop owner in Thane assaulted for purportedly refusing to speak in Marathi, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray says, Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray claimed that the assault incident was not about Marathi and non-Marathi. He added that the incident happened after an official wasn't allowed to charge his phone at the stall. "I talked to Rajan Vichare ji on the video, and he told me that this is neither about Marathi and non-Marathi, nor about Maharashtra and North India, nor about any community or society. An official had gone into the shop to charge his phone and he wasn't allowed to do so, which led to a fight and the person was beaten. A lady saved the person. This has gone into a police complaint," ANI quoted Thackeray as saying. Thane Food Stall Incident The incident occurred on Tuesday when a man, while purchasing food, requested the stall owner to communicate in Marathi. When the stall owner questioned this request, the man became angry and began shouting at him. The man's companions joined him and slapped the stall owner during the altercation. The viral video of the incident shows several men confronting and assaulting the food vendor. Police have registered an FIR against the persons under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and a probe is on into the case.
