Indians can now get the United Arab Emirates government's Golden Visa for life time. It's based on nomination, not on investments, and costs ₹ 23 lakh.
Sources told news agency PTI that under the 'new nomination-based visa policy,' Indians can now enjoy the UAE's Golden Visa for life by paying a one-time fee of AED 1,00,000 (INR around 23.30 lakh).
They claimed that over 5,000 Indians will apply for this nomination-based visa in three months.
Until now, one of the ways to get Dubai's Golden Visa from India was to invest in property whose value should be at least AED Two Million ( ₹ 4.66 crore), or invest a large amount in business in the country.
The UAE's latest visa policy has created a buzz on the internet.
One X user Suraj Balakrishnan posted said, 'The ₹ 23 lakh UAE Golden Visa seems like a migration ticket, but in reality, it's more of a status flex for Indian elites.'
He claimed that 'for many HNIs [High Net Worth Individual], the Golden Visa isn't about leaving India; it's about a backup option, global mobility, and just something to flaunt at a party.'
However, another social media user believed, 'When a nation values your potential more than your passport, migration becomes clarity not escape.'
Meanwhile, one X user posted, 'If the UAE Golden Visa for ₹ 23 lakhs news is true, it is game over for urban India.' Another mentioned that the quality of life and other basic amenities 'are far superior in UAE.'
One person believed the new visa policy may prove 'Incredible For Indian Professionals and HNIs'. He listed the benefits Indians could get in the UAE: '0 Income Tax; Strict Law and Order; Ease of Doing Business; World Class Infrastructure.'
One user questioned India's 'oppressive tax regime' and said that the UAE Golden Visa Policy 'will be a booster shot for Indian investors sick of India's tax terrorism & bureaucratic harassment.'
Another commented, 'UAE is giving Golden Visa for 23 lakhs and taxpayers are celebrating it as if they won a lottery.' He said, 'It's such a hopeless situation for taxpayers in this country that even after paying so much tax, they don't get anything in return. They're just looking for the first oppertunity to exit from country.'
The user added that other countries are making friendly policies to 'grab Indian talents and HNI while our Govt is busy taxing GST on health insurance even after taking Health and education cess.'
After getting the Golden Visa, one gets the freedom to bring his or her family members to Dubai.
'You can also keep servants and drivers based on this visa. You can do any business or professional work here,' Rayad Kamal Ayub, Managing Director of Rayad Group, said.
He said the property-based Golden Visa ends in case of property sale or division, but the nomination-based visa will remain forever.
The Golden Visa nomination process is an agreement between the UAE and its (Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement) CEPA signatory/partner countries.
This is a pilot project which has started with India and Bangladesh and will soon include China and other CEPA countries.
RayadGroup and VFS have been chosen to vet the applicants and then forward them to the UAE authorities.

UAE's new nomination Golden Visa vs Real-Estate Visa: What's the difference?

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has created a new category of golden visa for those who wish to move to the country. The nomination-based Golden Visa program, it offers foreigners, including Indian nationals, lifetime residency in the UAE for a fixed fee.(Representational) Tagged nomination-based Golden Visa programme, it offers foreigners, including Indian nationals, lifetime residency in the UAE for a fixed fee. The UAE already has a Golden Visa programme for foreign nationals, which has made the country a top destination for wealthy individuals seeking to relocate. But the new category is somewhat different and gives a chance to immigrate without spending a huge fortune. So, what is the difference between the two Golden Visa programmes? New nomination-based Golden Visa vs real-estate linked programme According to a PTI report, the UAE government has introduced a new category of Golden Visa based on nominations as an alternative to the existing system, which requires substantial investments in local real estate. The new programme has certain conditions, but it significantly reduces the amount of money needed to obtain it. The nomination-based system would give the applicant a long-term renewable residency in the UAE, ranging from five to ten years. The UAE's Golden Visa for life can be obtained by paying a one-time fee of AED 1,00,000 (around ₹23.30 lakh), PTI reported. On the other hand, the real estate-linked visa is quite expensive. To get into such a programme, a 10-year renewable residence visa can be purchased by purchasing one of the following: A property worth a minimum of AED 2 million (approximately ₹ 4.7 crore). 4.7 crore). A property worth a minimum of AED 2 million, with a loan from specific local banks. One or more off-plan properties worth a minimum of AED 2 million from approved local real estate companies. This visa becomes invalid if the linked property is sold or divided. But the new nomination visa wouldn't have that problem. According to Henley & Partners, the UAE continues to dominate as the top destination for wealthy migrants, with an estimated 6,700 millionaires relocating to the country by the end of 2024. The US comes next with inflows of more than 3,800 millionaires estimated last year. With zero personal income tax, no capital gains tax, and no inheritance tax, the UAE offers a more tax-efficient environment than India, allowing individuals to preserve more of their wealth.

Ex-OpenAI board member warns Meta must move fast enough or risk losing top AI hires like Trapit Bansal to rivals

Meta has made headlines for its aggressive hiring of top AI researchers, including those from OpenAI, but former OpenAI board member Helen Toner has raised doubts over how long the company can hold on to this talent. Speaking to Bloomberg, Toner said Meta will have to prove it's moving fast in AI innovation or else face the risk of losing its new recruits to rival who stepped down from OpenAI's board in November 2023, pointed out that competition for AI expertise is intense, and Meta's latest hires may already be in the sights of other companies. 'They will be getting attempts to poach them back to other companies starting on day one,' she said in the recently set up a new AI division called Meta Superintelligence Labs, co-led by Alexandr Wang, founder and CEO of ScaleAI, and Nat Friedman, former GitHub CEO. This team has attracted multiple researchers from leading AI organisations, including OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic. One of the most high-profile hires is Indian-origin researcher Trapit Bansal, an alumnus of IIT Kanpur. Bansal, who previously worked at OpenAI, confirmed his move to Meta in a recent post on X, writing, 'Thrilled to be joining Meta! Superintelligence is now in sight.' OpenAI spokesperson Kayla Wood also confirmed Bansal's departure from the Meta has certainly made a strong impression with its new lineup of talent, Toner believes the real challenge lies ahead. According to her, the key test for Meta is not just to attract top minds but to create an environment where they can thrive. She warned that internal company politics and clashing egos could get in the way. 'There's a lot of organisational politics at play,' she added that companies like Meta need leadership that's willing to push back against internal resistance when needed. 'That takes a lot of willingness to stare down powerful people inside your company, who maybe don't want to lose and tell them that you actually don't want them to do what they want,' she said. She also questioned whether Mark Zuckerberg's personal involvement in the AI initiative would be enough to change the company's working style and foster recent $15 billion investment in ScaleAI has only added to its AI ambitions. As part of the deal, ScaleAI's Alexandr Wang now also serves as Meta's Chief AI Officer. With this move, Meta has made clear that it is serious about building advanced AI systems and competing with the likes of OpenAI and not everyone is convinced Meta's approach will work in the long run. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, during a recent podcast appearance, criticised Meta's strategy of offering massive upfront financial packages. He revealed that Meta has offered OpenAI employees signing bonuses worth as much as $100 million. According to Altman, this kind of compensation-first approach doesn't create the right culture. 'The strategy of a ton of upfront guaranteed comp and that being the reason you tell someone to join... I don't think that's going to set up a great culture,' he and Toner may have had their differences in the past — with Toner having supported Altman's ouster from OpenAI last year — but both seem to agree that throwing money at talent is not enough in the rapidly evolving AI race.- Ends
