Both areas provide family-friendly resorts at sensible prices, all merely a short flight from the UK, reports the Express. So we decided to look at what Costa del Sol's Torremolinos has on offer. What can you do in Torremolinos? The destination boasts an impressive 300 sunny days annually, so it's hardly surprising that holidaymakers rush there. Torremolinos features 7km of coastline along the Mediterranean where visitors can enjoy the ocean air. One specific beach worth experiencing is Playa de la Carihuela, which ranks as the third best attraction in the city and holds a 4.4 rating on Tripadvisor. One traveller wrote: "We were on a Globus tour at the beginning of November and this beach was amazing! The weather was wonderful and because it was off-season, the beach was not crowded. The surf was mild, with more pebbles than shells, and the beach was wide with plenty of room to spread out. "The beach was very clean and there were restaurants along the edge and shops across the street further down. I wish we spent more than two days here, but we plan to come back." Another said: "This is a long and wide beach with golden sand. The promenade that fronts it is dotted with sand sculptures with intricate details, and it is lined with shops, restaurants and cafes. There are many beach clubs with chair and umbrella rentals, and some are beautifully landscaped." A third commented: "Without a shadow of a doubt one of the best beaches in Torremolinos is Playa La Carihuela. This is a beautiful expanse of clean, golden sand that brings you down to gentle waves, there's good beach amenities and some fantastic chiringuitos overlooking the beach where you can enjoy beers after a swim." Meanwhile, those eager to discover other areas of the city should consider visiting the fishing quarter of La Carihuela. The traditional neighbourhood ranks as the city's premier attraction, boasting a 4.5-star rating on Tripadvisor. One person wrote: "My family and I recently visited la Carihuela after a gap of four years. It was as nice as ever. There were changes in lots of premises but a lot of the older ones were still there. The church is serene and lovely. The clothes shops and gift shops are lovely. We tried different restaurants each night." Another commented: "A promenade of shops, bars and restaurants. Then one street Calle San Miguel has more fantastic restaurants, etc. Our favourite is La Tahone de la Carihuela. Their food and drinks are delicious whatever you fancy, they have many seats and tables outside. Also Cafeteria Naranjito for coffee and cafe. Everyone in Carihuela who serves you has a happy smile. Can't wait to go back." A third said: "Fabulous area. The Hotel Barracuda was lovely. It had a rooftop bar as well as a bar on the grounds. The breakfast was lovely, A great selection every day. The beach was just across the promenade with an exit from the grounds of the hotel and the beach was just fabulous. You can walk or cycle along the promenade to other beaches and areas which are great. A great place to go." 'Spellbinding' village with 'haunted hotel' and witchcraft museum is 'beautiful'
The quaint village is steeped in history and regularly attracts visitors interested in the occult Cornwall is one of the United Kingdom's most breathtaking counties. It's also considered one of the most magical, steeped in legend. Perched on North Cornwall's clifftops, Tintagel Castle is one of the most popular attractions. It's rumoured to be the site where King Arthur was conceived, and visitors can explore Merlin's Cave on the beach below when the tide is out. St Nectan's Glen, a sacred valley with a 60-foot waterfall and stacked fairy stones, is another popular spot for those visiting Tintagel, and just ten minutes down the road, visitors will find a village that's "beautiful and magical." Boscastle, a small harbour village, is beloved for its stunning views, quaint shops, and mystical atmosphere. One visitor who documented her visit on TikTok as @thetaniachronicles described the "most bewitched" village as "England's equivalent of Salem." For over 50 years, Boscastle has been home to The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic. The independent museum is home to "one of the world's largest and most spellbinding collections of folk magic artefacts," according to National Geographic, and on TripAdvisor, the museum has over 800 'excellent' reviews. One impressed visitor wrote: "Came here with friends, it had been on our list for ages and it didn't disappoint! After a hike along the coast from Tintagel, we reached the Boscastle harbour, which was in itself a spellbinding experience! The museum had thousands of artefacts, and we left feeling inspired and more knowledgeable than before! Will be back." Nearby, visitors will find The Wellington Hotel, one of the region's oldest coaching inns, and one of the most haunted - if rumours are to be believed. With over 500 'excellent' reviews on TripAdvisor, guests have praised the "best food and service" in the restaurant and the "cosy accommodation," and many said they loved hearing ghost stories. One reviewer wrote: "The hotel featured in the Most Haunted TV series although disappointingly we never saw any ghosts although several people including staff have and are happy to share their experiences if you want!" Another claimed: "Staff, hotel and food all excellent. Ghosts a bit scary tho. Kept up all night with various footsteps, noises, shadows and door rattles. Culminating in a rather nasty encounter later on. We nearly left at 4am but the excellent dinner the night before had wetted our appetite for breakfast." Along with gift shops, restaurants, and a National Trust cafe, there are several walking routes for those who enjoy coastal paths. Visit Cornwall says: "For fantastic coastal views take the left hand path alongside the harbour which leads to a slate platform where you can see the 'blowhole' an hour before or after low tide, shooting a horizontal waterspout halfway across the harbour entrance if the conditions are right. You can follow the coast path up to Willapark, where the National Coastwatch have a watch-house high on the headland. "The path on the other side of the harbour leads past the Witchcraft Museum out onto Penally Point, again this provides walkers with fantastic views but can be difficult underfoot in places." Alternatively, visitors can take in the views from Boscastle Harbour, which has over 300 'excellent' reviews on TripAdvisor. Someone praised: "Just breathtaking in the sheer rugged unspoilt natural beauty of the landscape here. We visited in April and thought the village was lovely and the coastline is really something. It's very atmospheric and as we walked back to the car we bought a steak and Stilton pasty from the little bakery. Simply delicious!" Another fan said: "A magical and mystical place," while someone echoed: "Beautiful and magical! I would highly recommend the walk to the harbour which is gorgeous. Europe's most beautiful botanic gardens have been revealed and one breathtaking attraction in the UK has beaten out rivals thanks to its incredible array of plants Brits looking to get inspired for their next days out may want to consider a trip to London, which has been revealed as the home of 'Europe's most beautiful botanic garden'. The Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew have topped a new list in a study looking at visitor reviews, boasting a perfect score from holidaymakers looking for staycation ideas. Kew is already on most green thumbed Brits' bucket lists. Its new ranking comes after one seaside walk was named the best wildflower trail in the UK. That Kew Gardens is so popular is no surprise. After all, the UNESCO World Heritage Site boasts over 50,000 living plants, not to mention its iconic Victorian glasshouse that's home to 10 climate zones (keep an eye out for the carnivorous plants to be found in the tropical section!). Kew Gardens is already a firm favourite with visitors and it often features on round-ups of 'must-visit' destinations in London. "Completely exceeded our expectations," one happy holidaymaker wrote in a TripAdvisor review. "I can't understand anyone giving this place a low score at all. I like plants, but would not consider myself a big enthusiast, yet found Kew really interesting - a fabulous day out. "The lily building and the Prince of Wales buildings were particularly memorable. Parking was cheap and easy. We took a picnic so can't give any insight regarding food/drink options I'm afraid. We had our two teenage sons with us, who you might not think would enjoy plants/gardens, but it was honestly one of the most enjoyable days out we have had!" The attraction hosts a wide array of events throughout the year too whether that's themed exhibitions, treasure trails for kids, Halloween themed nights or its annual Christmas lights trail. Meanwhile its newly-opened 'Carbon Garden' has been drawing in crowds, with the aim of showcasing the "critical role carbon plays in sustaining life on Earth, communicating the scale of the climate crisis, and sharing the extraordinary potential of the natural world to combat it". If you're already tempted to have a look, then its new crown as Europe's most beautiful botanic garden might help tip the scales in favour of a visit. To determine the best botanic gardens, researchers at Saga Holidays looked at a variety of factors including how often these spots were described as 'beautiful' or 'peaceful', to analyse the 'average sentiment of reviews'. Each garden was given a Weighted Rank by combining its average review sentiment and keyword score equally - and Kew Gardens came top with a perfect score of 100 out of 100. The team behind the study explained: "Crowned Europe's most gorgeous garden, Kew Gardens has almost 85,000 mentions of beauty in its reviews and a perfect weighted rank score of 100, reflecting its popularity and high sentiment among visitors. Home to the world's largest and most diverse collections of plants and fungi, this UNESCO World Heritage Site has over 50,000 different living plants and more than 7 million preserved specimens."
