Metro 3 will be fully operational by August: CM
'The ridership of Metro 3 is increasing gradually and when the entire route is opened for the public, ridership numbers will jump further,' Fadnavis said while inaugurating metro services between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Acharya Atre Chowk on the Metro 3 route. The stretch will be thrown open to the public from Saturday morning, he said.
'We will invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi when we open the entire route till Cuffe Parade in August,' Fadnavis said. The aqua line could have become operational 1.5 years ago if the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government had not stalled it, he alleged.
The chief minister was speaking to reporters after taking a ride on the aqua line, another name for the Metro 3 corridor, from BKC to Siddhivinayak Temple.
Officials said a total of 244 daily services will be operational from Saturday between BKC and Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli – the second phase of the Metro 3 corridor spanning 9.77 km. There are a total of 208 escalators and 67 lifts at metro stations between Aarey JVLR and Acharya Atre Chowk, they said.
At present, over 20,000 passengers use Metro 3 services between Aarey JVLR and BKC on a daily basis. This constitutes just 5% of the expected ridership of 400,000 on the aqua line. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL), which operates the line, expects ridership numbers to go up with services being extended till Worli from Saturday.
Work on the Metro 3 corridor began in 2017 but was hit by delays owing to the pandemic and other reasons, which pushed up the project cost from ₹23,000 crore to ₹37,000 crore.
Once the entire line is operational, it will cater to around 1.3 million passengers daily, ferrying approximately 2,500 passengers in each eight-coach train, said MMRCL officials. It will also improve connectivity between business hubs like BKC, Worli and Nariman Point besides providing easy access to religious sites like Siddhivinayak temple, Mahim dargah and Mahim church and recreational places like Shivaji Park, Ravindra Natya Mandir, Shivaji Mandir, Yashwant Natya Mandir and Plaza Cinema.
The BKC station will also be connected with Metro line 2B and the bullet train in future, which is expected to further boost ridership, said officials.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis asserted on Sunday that critics of the Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill, which according to him would curb 'urban Naxalism', had not read it thoroughly. More than 12,000 suggestions received from various organisations and the public were taken into consideration while making the final draft of the Bill, the chief minister said. Fadnavis did not mention any individual leader or organisation. 'This legislation is not directed at any political parties or agitation or critics. All those working within the framework of the Indian Constitution and democracy have no reason to fear. Their rights and freedom remain intact,' he added. On Friday, Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray voiced strong opposition to the legislation. 'If the legislation is to combat Naxalism and terror, why are these terms not mentioned? Simply say the Bill is to fight Naxals and terrorism, ' he said while speaking to reporters on Vidhan Bhawan premises. Fadnavis further said that under the Bill, action cannot be taken against an individual but an organisation first. 'It would require consent from an advisory board headed by the chief justice of the high court or a retired judge,' he added. The advisory board will include district magistrates or government pleaders in the high court, and investigating officers will be of the rank of superintendent of police.

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], July 13 (ANI): Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has praised Pune MP and Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, calling him a 'real leader' who remained active during tough times. 'Only the one who stands firm during adversity is a real leader,' Fadnavis said while speaking at the launch of MP Mohol's 24/7 Public Outreach Office and the release of his one-year performance report and book Pratham Manus, based on his COVID-era experiences. The event was held at Balgandharva Rangmandir in Pune on Saturday. Fadnavis praised the BJP for giving chances to dedicated party workers, saying Mohol had shown consistent commitment in both political and administrative roles. He also spoke about Mohol's efforts during the COVID-19 crisis as the Mayor of Pune. 'He remained calm and persistent throughout the crisis, which created his distinct identity,' said Fadnavis. The newly inaugurated 24/7 Public Office is located at JM Road in Pune. Fadnavis said that very few MPs in the country have a public outreach office that is open all day, every day. He also mentioned that Mohol was unanimously chosen to succeed the late Girish Bapat and is now working closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. 'After becoming MP, he was entrusted with a significant portfolio and now works closely with PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah,' he said. 'Amit Shah personally praised Mohol as a disciplined and studious leader with a bright future.' Navi Mumbai airport 94% ready: September-end flight likely; world's ‘fastest baggage claim system'
NAVI MUMBAI/PUNE: Stating that 94% of the work on the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) was over, CM Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said the remaining work should proceed in such a way that the first passenger flight can start operations by end of Sept. He said airport authorities had been asked to increase the numerical strength of workers to meet this target. Along with the airport, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway 'missing link' project will help the state govt develop an economic corridor comprising Mumbai, Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Pune, he the 'missing link' project too, though MSRDC has set a Dec 2025 deadline, the CM said he was hoping for completion in his way to Pune by road, Fadnavis reviewed the progress of the airport and 'missing link' work with Dy CM Eknath Shinde. The airport's initial phases will accommodate 20 million passengers and 0.8 mn metric tonnes of cargo annually from Sept 2025, he added. He expressed satisfaction that PM Modi , who performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the airport in 2018, will also inaugurate the facility in Sept. He said, "Currently 13,000 to 14,000 workers are involved in the work daily, and we have asked authorities to increase their strength by one-and-a-half times or double by Sept 30, because other licences are complete, but for commercial operations, all work has to be finished." On Oct 11, 2024, an IAF C-295 transport aircraft completed the inaugural landing at the airport. Subsequently, on Dec 29, 2024, an IndiGo Airlines Airbus A320 made the first commercial landing. Connectivity to the airport is also a major focus, the CM said. "We have prepared a big connectivity plan. The linking of Atal Setu to Coastal Road is expected to be completed by March next year. From Thane, a direct elevated road has been suggested and that work will also start soon," he said. Arrangements are being made for connecting the airport from four directions with all modes of transport, including suburban railway, metro or water transport, so that it will be easy for passengers to reach, he said. On the 'missing link' project, Fadnavis said in Pune, "The Navi Mumbai airport is nearing completion and once the missing link gets ready, Pune residents will be able to reach Navi Mumbai airport in a little more than an hour. The missing link project will help them avoid 6 km of the expressway and save half an hour of travel time." The 'missing link' project – a 13.5 km tunnel-bridge-road section from under the Lonavla ghats – has missed three deadlines: July and Dec 2024 and July 2025. The Rs 6,695 crore project is expected to cut travel time between Mumbai and Pune by half an hour by bypassing the congested ghat section. It aims to ease traffic, reduce accidents, improve fuel efficiency, and offer seamless connectivity between the two cities. "While MSRDC set a Dec 2025 deadline, we are hoping for Oct-Nov completion," Fadnavis said. When the other planned or under-construction augmentation projects such as Chowk (Pune-Eway)-Pagote (JNPT) 30 km road, Sewri-Worli connector and smaller flyovers towards the expressway are completed, travel time between the two cities will reduce by an hour. Eighty-five per cent of the Expressway's current traffic is projected to use the new route. At the site after reviewing the 'missing link' project, Fadnavis described it as an engineering marvel, noting that it features India's longest road tunnel and highest cable-stayed road bridge under construction over the scenic Tiger Valley. "Pune is the cultural capital of the state, but now it has also developed as the manufacturing and technology capital. Therefore, these projects are important for all of Maharashtra," the CM said.
