NNPC to resume crude oil drilling in northern Nigeria, confirms peace with Dangote refinery
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is resuming crude oil drilling in northern Nigeria.
The site is estimated to hold over one billion barrels of crude oil and 500 billion cubic feet of natural gas.
Collaboration with companies, including the resolution of disputes with Dangote Group, is expected to enhance the project's success and impact.
According to the company's new Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, the Kolmani drilling project, located on the boundary between Bauchi and Gombe states, is expected to deliver significant benefits to Nigerians once completed.
' NNPC will continue oil drilling in the Kolmani field and will continue the work on the AKK gas pipeline from Ajaokuta to Kaduna to Kano. The companies working on the projects will continue, and new ones are also welcome," he said.
'The projects are critical in boosting the economy, and the impact will be felt by all Nigerians. By next month, people will begin to see. We will start work on the AKK gas pipeline and the Kalmoni. '
Oil discovery in the north
In 2019, NNPC announced the discovery of hydrocarbon deposits at the Kolmani River II Well, located in the Upper Benue Trough within the Gongola Basin in the country's northeast.
This marked the first major oil find in Northern Nigeria and laid the foundation for the Kolmani Integrated Development Project, a strategic initiative to harness the region's hydrocarbon potential.
By 2022, the government launched commercial oil drilling in the area. Authorities said the project was expected to attract foreign investment and generate employment for local communities.
The site is estimated to hold over one billion barrels of crude oil and 500 billion cubic feet of natural gas, with investment commitments already totalling $3 billion.
Dangote, NNPCL resolve feud
The relationship between Dangote Group and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has been tense in recent years, largely due to disagreements over issues such as the controversial Naira-for-Crude deal, which faced inconsistencies under previous NNPCL leadership.
However, according to Mr. Ojulari, the rift has now been resolved.
' We, as Nigerians, must hail Dangote's courageous efforts. Whatever he is investing, he is doing it in Africa. We have addressed the feud between the NNPC and the Dangote Refinery. Very soon, people will start seeing the impact."

Sparkling Ice and Giant Eagle join forces to support military veterans struggling with invisible wounds of war
K9s For Warriors PTSD service dog in training - Image 1 K9s For Warriors PTSD service dog in training - Image 2 K9s For Warriors PTSD service dog in training - Image 3 PRESTON, Wash. and PITTSBURGH, July 22, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In a month defined by freedom, Sparkling Ice, the No. 1 sparkling water brand in the U.S., and Giant Eagle Inc., are giving back to freedom's defenders by providing the loyalty and healing only a service animal can bring. True patriotism shows up in many forms, such as a black Labrador puppy in Ponte Vedra, Florida, that has started training to become a K9s For Warriors service dog for a veteran with PTSD. 'At Giant Eagle, we continually look for ways to support the communities we serve, and we know that for some U.S. veterans and others who live with PTSD, shopping in a busy supermarket can be an overwhelming experience,' said Jannah Drexler, public relations manager at Giant Eagle. 'We are excited to team up with Sparkling Ice and K9s For Warriors to fund training for a service dog to help improve the quality of life for a very deserving U.S. veteran in Cleveland, Ohio.' Since 2023, support from Talking Rain Beverage Company, the makers of Sparkling Ice, has enabled K9s For Warriors to rescue, train and pair 17 service dogs with veterans in need. Last year the brand sponsored the 'presidential campaign' of Rocky, a service dog in training who spent his time on the campaign trail advocating for the needs of veterans and shelter animals. This year, Rocky's story was shared again to help promote a new, convenient six-pack offering from Sparkling Ice, which has been co-branded for a limited time, after which it will be available in its everyday packaging. 'When two leading organizations join forces to give back to the community, they can make an extraordinary impact,' said Ken Sylvia, CEO of Talking Rain. 'K9s For Warriors meets a critical, ongoing need within the veteran community. Right now, 370 U.S. veterans are on a waitlist for a trained service dog, with another 284 applications pending. It's a privilege to partner with Giant Eagle so we can mobilize and expand K9s For Warriors' ability to serve every veteran who needs help.' Through the partnership, Giant Eagle and Sparkling Ice intend to spread awareness about the importance and value of service dogs for those with PTSD and other hidden wounds. Giant Eagle Team Members will also have the opportunity to name the black Lab puppy in training. This future service dog will star in various social media collaborations, visit Giant Eagle's Pittsburgh headquarters and meet the public at select store locations. For decades, service dogs have supported people with visual, hearing and mobility impairments. Now, research shows that service dogs can aid veterans who struggle with mental health concerns too. In a first-of-its-kind study conducted by Dr. Maggie O'Haire of the University of Arizona's College of Veterinary Medicine, veterans who were paired with trained service dogs reported decreased severity of PTSD symptoms and lower levels of anxiety and depression compared to veterans without service dogs. All the service dogs included in the study were trained by K9s For Warriors. Since its founding, K9s For Warriors has paired more than 1,157 U.S. veterans with trained service dogs. While most of the dogs trained by the organization are rescued, K9s For Warriors also has a puppy program where puppies are donated by select breeders from across the country and raised by volunteers to reach more veterans in need. Halliburton says Mexico oil output decline rates will pressure reactivation of business
HOUSTON (Reuters) -U.S. oilfield service provider Halliburton on Tuesday said Mexico's crude production decline rates are creating pressure for a reactivation of business amid long delays from state-run Pemex to pay its suppliers. Output of crude and condensate by Pemex, the largest producer in the country, fell 8.4% in May to 1.64 million barrels per day, according to official figures. Oilfield service companies have significantly decreased activities because of the lack of payments from Pemex, the world's most indebted energy company. Halliburton said issues related to payments from Pemex have not been resolved yet. The Mexican association that groups foreign oil services companies warned last month that many of these firms may have to stop operations as early as July. Halliburton, which posted second-quarter earnings on Tuesday, said it expects its full-year international revenue to decline by mid-single digits, year on year, primarily driven by activity reductions in Saudi Arabia and Mexico. Coca-Cola to launch Coke with cane sugar in the US after Trump post
Coca-Cola has laid out plans to launch a product made with US cane sugar this year, days after Donald Trump claimed the company had agreed to replace high-fructose corn syrup. The announcement came Tuesday in Coca-Cola's earnings report. It confirmed a 16 July post on Trump's Truth Social platform in which the president said Coca-Cola 'agreed' to use 'REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States'. 'This will be a very good move by them – You'll see,' Trump's post said. 'It's just better!' The drink maker's Mexican Coke is made with cane sugar and already sold in the US. Tuesday's announcement from Coca-Cola came as food and drink companies have rolled out plans to make changes amid US health secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr's Make America healthy again (Maha) campaign. However, experts say that drinks made with cane sugar instead of corn syrup aren't healthier. Eva Greenthal, senior policy scientist at the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a non-profit consumer advocacy group, previously told CNN: 'Excess consumption of sugar from any source harms health. To make the US food supply healthier, the Trump administration should focus on less sugar, not different sugar.' Coca-Cola chairperson and chief executive officer James Quincey said Tuesday's announcement was meant to 'reflect consumer interest in differentiated experiences'. 'We appreciate the president's enthusiasm for our Coca-Cola brand,' Quincey said in a conference call with investors. 'This addition is designed to complement our strong core portfolio and offer more choice across occasions and preferences.'
