‘We know how highly Palace think of him' - Dubliner hailed as loan move is done
Leyton Orient chiefs reckon Ireland Under-21 defender Tayo Adaramola's loan move to the League One side can be a stepping stone to first-team football at Premier League side Crystal Palace. Adaramola completed his season-long switch at the weekend, to the delight of the O's manager and director of football, and the player himself. Dubliner Adaramola, who featured for Palace in pre-season, has previously been on loan at Coventry City, Belgian side RWD Molenbeek, Stockport and Bradford, and has made almost 50 first-team appearances. That tally includes two FA Cup displays for Palace - against Hartlepool and Stoke - in 2022. Leyton Orient Director of Football Martin Ling said: 'Tayo has been someone we identified a while back as a player we would love to get in and join what we are building. 'He's athletic, quick, strong on the ball and offers us something different in that full-back role. He was a really important player for Bradford last season as they achieved promotion - and we've beaten a lot of clubs to secure his signature. 'We have used the loan market really well in recent years, and we hope that Tayo can be another example of that. 'We know how highly Crystal Palace think of him, and we're grateful that both they and Tayo have chosen us as the next step in his development.' Orient Head Coach Richie Wellens added: 'Tayo has had a few loans away from Palace now, and he comes here with real pedigree. In his first loan at Coventry, he showed the potential of what he's capable of. 'We played against him last year whilst he was at Stockport, and in the second half of the season, he had a superb loan at Bradford. 'He dealt with the pressure of Bradford's run-in excellently and, for me, he was one of their best performers. He's a proper athlete, gives us a huge amount of pace, and we think we can develop him. 'He's a different profile of full-back to what we already have, and I think he can add a lot to our squad.' As for the 21-year-old former St Kevin's and St Mochta's defender, Adaramola said: 'I'm excited and over the moon to be here. I can't wait to get going. 'I had a great time at Bradford last season, and I want to push on and achieve similar things here. I got my confidence back whilst playing there and it showed on the pitch.' Padraig Harrington 'euphoric' to join elite golfing group after Senior Open win
Padraig Harrington was 'euphoric' after joining an elite group of golfers following his Senior Open win on Sunday. With that victory Harrington became just the fifth player to win the Senior Open and The Open Championship following in the footsteps of Gary Player, Bob Charles, Tom Watson and Darren Clarke. After successive 65s in rounds two and three, Harrington - who was battling his swing all week - carded a final round of 67 to secure victory by three strokes from Thomas Bjorn and Justin Leonard. 'I'm thrilled to have won but very satisfied that I've won a Senior Open with my two Opens,' Harrington said. 'The fact that only five people have ever done it is quite special. I'm quite proud that I've managed to survive this long in the game." 'I think they are the sort of things that you realise over the next couple of days, the significance of it. I'm thrilled, euphoric, that I've gotten it done. 'There are some great names on the trophy. I was watching it coming out last night. I was looking up inside at the board that has all the winners. It's a deep sense of satisfaction. I'm kind of on a high of winning, but then there will be that deep sense of satisfaction knowing that you've done both. 'And especially you come to this stage, there's only a certain window. You know, you can win later on as a senior but the window, they say, sort of up to about 55, 56, so you want to get it done. 'And having had a couple of second places, I didn't want to leave it too long. It would start becoming a problem if you don't win it too soon, and I'm glad I got mine.' Victory for Harrington at Sunningdale was the Dubliner's third major title on the senior tour and his second in a row following on from his success at the Senior US Open last month. For his troubles, the 53-year-old took home a monster cheque worth €681,000 to go with his trophy.
