JPJ Mulls Revoking MyLesen Licences Of Illegal Street Racers

CRIME & COURTS
BUTTERWORTH, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is considering revoking the motorcycle licences of recipients under the MyLesen B2 programme who are found to be involved in illegal street racing (rempit) or other traffic offences.
Its director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said he has instructed the director of the Driver Licensing Division to look into the matter before any further action is taken.
He stressed that the government has allocated substantial funding for the programme to help the B40 group obtain Class B2 motorcycle licences, and thus recipients must comply with all road regulations.
'Recipients of this government-subsidised licence are recorded separately in JPJ's system as participants of the MyLesen programme. So, if they are stopped during inspections, action will be taken, up to and including revocation of their licence.
'If they want to reapply (for a licence), they will have to go through the driving institution or school, pay the fees, and retake the test from start to finish. I want to make that clear,' he told reporters after handing over the Penang-level MyLesen B2 programme licences here today.
Meanwhile, Aedy Fadly said the MyLesen programme has been expanded this year to include secondary school students, students from institutions of higher learning, and youths, reflecting the government's continued commitment to helping the B40 group obtain valid driving licences and thereby broaden their access to employment opportunities, particularly in the gig economy.
'To ensure the success of this programme, the government has allocated RM5.8 million this year to cover the full cost of training and licence issuance for 15,000 selected participants nationwide. In Penang alone, 993 individuals aged 16 and above are involved,' he said.

Four remanded in Sabah over RM5 mln false claims

KOTA KINABALU (July 2): The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested four individuals, including two company owners, for allegedly submitting documents with false information related to the procurement of permit to work (PTW) printing services worth RM5 million. According to sources, the suspects, three men and one woman, in their 40s and 50s, were arrested between 6 pm and 7 pm on June 30 when they appeared at the Sabah MACC office to give their statements. 'In addition to the two company owners, the other two suspects – a former administrator and a former assistant administrator of a local oil company – are believed to have committed the offences between 2019 and 2023,' the sources said. 'The two suspects are also believed to have abetted the company owners by submitting false claims related to the procurement of PTW printing services worth RM5 million,' the sources told Bernama. The arrests of all the suspects were made as a follow-up to Op Effingo, conducted by the MACC Special Operations Division. 'On June 30, the division raided 10 locations, including the suspects' residences, offices, and several companies around Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, and the Klang Valley,' the sources said. 'The MACC seized 22 bank accounts, including Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) accounts, containing approximately RM2 million; various foreign currencies amounting to RM14,000; three luxury vehicles valued at around RM1.3 million; and three mobile phones. The suspects have been remanded for four days, starting Tuesday, after Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus allowed the MACC application at the Kota Kinabalu Magistrate's Court. MACC Special Operations Division senior director Datuk Mohamad Zamri Zainul Abidin, when contacted, confirmed the arrests. He said that the individuals will be charged under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009, as well as other offences under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.-Bernama

Online scams in Melaka rack up RM39mil in losses since January

JASIN: Online scams in Melaka have racked up losses amounting to RM39 million across 1,159 cases from January until July 1. Deputy State Exco for Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communication Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem, said police reports from the Melaka police headquarters showed that the highest losses stemmed from fraudulent online investment schemes. "Based on the reports received, some cases recorded losses exceeding RM1 million, with victims lured by promises of high returns. "Even professionals have not been spared. "Despite continuous awareness efforts, many still fall for the syndicates' sweet promises of quick returns and high profits. "This reflects not only greed and irrationality but also a lack of understanding about the nature of cyber fraud," he told reporters after launching the Jasin Cybercrime and Infra Communication Safety Awareness Campaign. Also present were Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) head of Regional and State Coordination Datuk Mohd Shafie Harun. Organised by MCMC in collaboration with Melaka police, the programme was held in conjunction with the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat initiative for the Bemban state constituency. Mohd Noor Helmy said the state government, MCMC and the police are stepping up cybersecurity education to raise public awareness of increasingly sophisticated scam tactics. He warned that cybercrime and financial fraud continue to rise each year, posing a serious threat to public safety and the state's economy. Criminals, he added, are becoming increasingly sophisticated, employing tactics such as fake calls, scam messages, phishing links and impersonating government officials. Meanwhile, Zulkairi said 650 cybercrime-related arrests have been made in the state so far this year. In response to the growing threat, he said Melaka police have taken the initiative to hold awareness forums to educate the public on the dangers of cybercrime and how to protect themselves. "These programmes help the public understand the modus operandi of cybercriminals, recognise the signs of digital fraud and identify official channels for verification and reporting. "Besides fake investment schemes, other commonly reported scams include undelivered online purchases, phishing websites and fraudulent wedding invitation links designed to steal personal information," he said. — BERNAMA
