Couple face multiple drug trafficking charges
Tie Teck Hock, 52, was initially charged with trafficking 1,030.80g of methamphetamine outside a food outlet at Jalan Pedada around 10pm on June 12.
He nodded in understanding when the charge was read by a court interpreter before magistrate Oon Kork Chern.
Subsequently, Tie and his wife, Lee Chee Fei, 45, were jointly charged with trafficking 6,055.90g of methamphetamine found in a house at Jalan Permai Jaya 9D1B1 at 10.45pm the same day.
They were charged under Section 39B(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
The couple were also jointly charged with possession of 2,078.90g of ketamine and 2,022.15g of nimetazepam at the same location, time and date.
The charges were brought under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM100,000, or imprisonment for a maximum of five years, or both, upon conviction.
Both the accused indicated they understood the charges, but no plea was recorded.
Tie was previously released on police bail on June 26 following the expiry of his seven-day remand, but was subsequently rearrested under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.
Lee was also released on police bail on June 24 after her four-day remand ended, but was similarly rearrested under the same Act.
The court fixed Aug 22 for further mention of the cases pending the chemist's report.
No bail was granted to either accused.
Deputy public prosecutor Nuralisa Natasha Nazrulzam appeared for the prosecution, while counsel Reena Chong represented the couple. — BERNAMA

SHAH ALAM, July 6 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) had revoked the teaching credentials of a preacher in 2022, who was recently arrested by police over suspected involvement in criminal activities. MAIS chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin said the individual was previously detained by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department in September 2024 for preaching without valid credentials. 'It is an offence under Section 119 of the Administration of the Religion of Islam (State of Selangor) Enactment 2003, and the case is still being heard at the Syariah Subordinate Court. Salehuddin said that since 2022, MAIS had revoked the accreditation of 35 individuals for breaching set conditions, including delivering teachings that deviated from the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah creed, committing criminal offences and holding political positions. 'Several others have had their teaching credentials suspended pending investigations in accordance with relevant laws,' he added. He emphasised that all policies and decisions by the religious authorities are made with due diligence and have received the consent of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah as the Head of Islam in the state. 'These measures are intended to protect the interests of the Muslim community in Selangor,' he said.

Gunshots fired during arrest attempt in Beaufort
KOTA KINABALU: Gunshots were fired, sparking a 10km chase when three suspected drug dealers tried to run over police officers during a raid in the Beaufort district. The suspects, travelling in a single vehicle, refused to stop when police officers attempted to pull them over after intercepting their car along Jalan Membakut around 4.15AM on Friday (July 4). Beaufort OCPD Supt. Wong Leong Meng stated that during the raid, known as Ops Gempur, the officers shouted 'police' at the suspects, instructing them to exit the vehicle. However, the driver accelerated forward, nearly hitting the officers. In response, the police were compelled to fire several shots at the car's front tyres to protect themselves. A chase ensued, ultimately concluding when the suspects' vehicle was intercepted once again near Kampung Lumat, approximately 10km away. The suspects exited the car and attempted to flee into a nearby bushy area, resulting in the arrest of two individuals. One suspect managed to escape. The two apprehended suspects, aged 18 and 29, were found in possession of a total of 51.28g of syabu (methamphetamine), valued at RM3,800. The drugs were discovered in the pocket of one suspect's pants. Both individuals were taken to the police station to aid in the investigation, and the drugs, vehicle and cell phones were confiscated. One of the suspects had four previous drug-related convictions, while the teenager had a clean record. Both are being detained under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Supt Wong mentioned that a manhunt had been launched to locate the escaped suspect and called on the public to assist the police by providing any information that could aid in capturing the suspect and solving this case.

Three held for selling fake MCs in Sungai Petani
SUNGAI PETANI: Police have arrested three men believed to be the masterminds behind the sale of fake medical certificates (MCs) in the district over the past two years. Kuala Muda OCPD Hanyan Ramlan said the group's modus operandi involved issuing MCs without the need for any medical consultation or treatment. He said the case emerged during an investigation into a breach of integrity involving a low-ranking police officer who had frequently submitted MCs. "This led to the discovery of the group selling fake MCs," he told a press conference at the Kuala Muda district police headquarters here on Sunday (July 6). According to him, during a raid on a premises in Taman Songket Indah near here at 4.30am on June 26, police seized various items, including about 20 fake MCs, tablets, rubber stamps bearing the names of doctors, A4-sized paper, a laptop and a printer. Hanyan said the three unemployed suspects, in their 30s and 40s, sold fake MCs for RM25 to RM30 a day, targeting civil servants as their primary 'customers'. He said the main suspect was found to be a heart patient currently receiving treatment at a hospital. "During each hospital visit, the suspect would note down the attending doctor's name and later use it on rubber stamps. Most of the names belonged to actual doctors, but the job titles were inaccurate," Hanyan said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 468 of the Penal Code. – Bernama
