Dhanush is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Kuberaa. While the movie is set to release on June 20, a grand audio launch took place in Chennai this weekend. Dressed in a white dhoti and shirt, Dhanush didn't mince words when he got up on stage to address the audience.
On the stage, the National Award-winning actor appeared to respond to his critics and online trolls with a pointed message.
In a clip going viral from the event, Dhanush can be heard saying. 'You can spread as many rumours as you want about me; spread any negative news about me. Each time a movie of mine releases, there's a negative campaign against me one-and-a-half months before that. But you won't be able to do anything as my fans are my strong pillars of support. My fans have been with me for 23 years – they are my friends. If you think you can spread false rumours about me and try to destroy me, there's no bigger foolishness than that. You can't even move a brick.'

The star added, 'No matter who you are, life turns out based on how you think. What should come to you will come to you and no one can take that away from you. Be happy. Happiness is a choice and it's inside you. There has been a time when I struggled to get one meal a day and today, I am in a good place. But I am happy in whichever state I am because I've never looked for happiness outside. I've looked for happiness inside me. There's nothing more important than peace and happiness in life. In spite of so many years and my ups and downs, you have all been with me throughout my journey and I feel blessed and grateful.'

Dhanush's speech at the event is being seen as his reply to actress Nayanthara, who had accused him of harbouring a personal grudge against her and her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan. Her remarks came after Dhanush refused a NOC to use elements from their 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale.

In today's reel age, vertical content will surely click with Kannada audiences: Manvita

With attention spans shrinking in the age of scrolling, the new generation of audiences are craving entertainment that that they can enjoy from the comfort of their homes, right on their phones, believes Manvita Kamath, adding that this was the reason behind her latest move: starring in a vertical format OTT Kannada series — a first for her and an exciting experiment for the industry. What makes this project even more groundbreaking for Kannada cinema is its subscription model. 'People have to subscribe to watch the series, which is essentially like buying a movie ticket for content that you can watch on your phone. This is a big experiment, and if it works and the response is good, it will be a major win for our industry,' she adds. In a chat with us, she talks about the Kannada film industry and the OTT space, the role of screenwriting in shaping a narrative and more: 'I BELIEVE VERTICAL VIEWING HAS ITS OWN AUDIENCE' While some might argue that long-form horizontal content on OTT still dominates, Manvita feels both formats can co-exist. 'Horizontal viewing is a different market altogether; it is still huge, especially for people who want to binge-watch. But vertical content has its own audience, especially among the younger crowd who live on their phones. That said, the real challenge today is cracking the internet's algorithm. You'll see a silly video go viral with millions of views, while something meaningful struggles.' 'KANNADA INDUSTRY MISSED OUT ON OPPORTUNITIES IN THE OTT SPACE' She notes that the Kannada film industry's relationship with streaming platforms has been a mixed bag. 'While some shows and films, like Ayana Mane and Murphy, gained traction once they hit digital platforms, the industry as a whole hasn't found its footing in the streaming world. When OTT platforms first started investing in regional content, I don't think we used that opportunity wisely. We didn't focus enough on quality. And if you don't deliver what a streaming platform expects, they won't come back. Quality isn't just about good visuals; it's crucially about the content itself,' she explains. 'AS AN INDUSTRY, WE NEED TO EXPLORE MORE ROOTED STORIES' Drawing parallels with Malayalam cinema and how it he leveraged the OTT space, Manvita says, 'Malayalam cinema is doing so well globally because their stories are culturally rooted. Karnataka, too, has such a rich and vast culture, beyond just Bengaluru, Mysuru, or coastal areas. There are so many rich, diverse stories waiting to be told — we just need to research and be open to experimenting.' 'SCREENPLAY PLAYS A HUGE ROLE IN SHAPING A NARRATIVE' Screenplay is paramount, believes Manvita. 'The same story can be told a hundred ways. How you present it — your perspective, your screenplay — that truly matters. My film Kendasampige, for instance, clicked because of its raw, realistic energy and execution, despite being a low-budget true story,' she explains.

'We will take...', The makers of Ajay Devgn's upcoming film Drishyam 3 lands in trouble due to...

Ajay Devgn's 'Drishyam' has become one of Bollywood's most talked-about suspense-thriller franchises, with both previous parts achieving major box office success. Fans are now eagerly awaiting the third installment. Meanwhile, the original Malayalam version, directed by Jeethu Joseph, is also in the works. Though filming has not yet begun, the director recently cleared the air regarding rumors that the Hindi version will start shooting first. What did Jeethu Joseph say? In a recent conversation with Mathrubhumi, Jeethu Joseph confirmed that the Malayalam version holds priority since it's the original story. He revealed that there was a proposal to shoot both the Hindi and Malayalam versions simultaneously, but no final decision has been made. Initially, the Hindi makers had planned to begin their shoot earlier, but that idea was dropped after a legal warning was hinted at. Joseph emphasized that the story belongs to the Malayalam team and any breach could lead to legal consequences. When the filming of Drishyam 3 commence? Jeethu Joseph further stated that he is currently focused on completing the screenplay. The Malayalam version of 'Drishyam 3' is set to begin filming in October 2025 and only after that will work on the Hindi version resume. Speaking at an event, Joseph said, 'I finished writing the climax just last night. It's been weighing on me for a long time, but I'm glad to have wrapped it up.' About the 'Drishyam' Universe The franchise began in 2013 with the Malayalam film 'Drishyam' starring Mohanlal. It tells the intense story of a simple man named Georgekutty, whose life turns upside down after a police officer's son goes missing. The gripping narrative and emotional depth of the film earned it massive praise and led to remakes in several languages: Kannada (2014) with V. Ravichandran, Telugu with Venkatesh Daggubati, Tamil (2015) with Kamal Haasan, and the Hindi version with Ajay Devgn, which added its own unique flavor to the storyline. Now, as both Malayalam and Hindi fans await the next chapter, it's clear that the third part will again aim to keep audiences guessing till the very end.
