India Orders Inspection of Boeing Jet Fuel Switches After Deadly Crash

Indian aviation authorities have directed airlines to inspect fuel control switches on several Boeing aircraft models, following a tragic Air India crash last month that claimed 260 lives. The move comes after a preliminary report from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau revealed that the fuel switches on the ill-fated Boeing 787-8 had moved from the 'run' position to 'cutoff' shortly after takeoff. The report stopped short of blaming anyone but did include a chilling cockpit exchange in which one pilot questioned why the fuel had been cut off — only for the other to deny doing it. India's civil aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), issued the inspection order on Monday. It applies to Boeing 787s, 737s, and other models that use similar fuel switch mechanisms. Airlines are expected to complete their inspections by July 21. Although Boeing has told airlines the switches are safe, the DGCA's action aligns with an advisory issued by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) back in 2018. That bulletin warned that these switches should be checked to ensure they can't be moved accidentally during flight. 'Several domestic and international operators have already begun inspections in accordance with FAA guidance,' the DGCA said in a statement. The tragic crash occurred on June 12, when an Air India Dreamliner flying from Ahmedabad to London went down shortly after takeoff. The accident killed 241 of the 242 people on board, along with 19 people on the ground. Air India CEO Campbell Wilson urged staff to avoid drawing early conclusions. In a letter to employees, he emphasized that the investigation is still underway and that all findings must be based on facts. South Korea has also announced plans to order similar checks on Boeing aircraft operated by its airlines. The crash has triggered global concern, with regulators taking swift action to ensure safety measures are thoroughly enforced.

Tesla Opens Its First Showroom in India, Starting a New Chapter in Mumbai

Electric car giant Tesla officially opened its first showroom in India on Tuesday, marking a significant step into the world's most populous country. The launch comes as the company, led by Elon Musk, looks to grow in new markets while facing slower sales in the United States and Europe. The sleek showroom, located in the heart of Mumbai—India's financial capital—was inaugurated by Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, in a private event. Starting Wednesday, it will be open to the public. 'This is the first launch of Tesla in India. It marks a huge milestone for Tesla globally,' said Isabel Fan, Tesla's Senior Regional Director. She also announced that the company will begin installing charging stations in Mumbai and Delhi soon. Tesla's entry into India has been long-anticipated. For years, the company expressed interest in tapping into India's growing electric vehicle (EV) market but had hesitated due to the country's high import taxes. Elon Musk has previously called India's tariffs 'among the highest in the world.' Currently, Tesla is offering its Model Y to Indian customers, with a more affordable version expected to be available later this quarter. Despite heavy rain, Mumbai residents gathered outside the showroom, eager to get a first look at the famous EVs. Many see Tesla's arrival as a boost for India's clean mobility push and a sign that the country is becoming an attractive market for global tech and automotive brands. Though the Indian government has offered to reduce import duties for EV makers that commit to local manufacturing, Tesla has not yet confirmed plans to build a plant in India. However, Tuesday's launch could be the beginning of a deeper presence in the country.

India Launches E-Visa For Kuwait From July 14: 5-Year Tourist Visas Available

Beginning Monday, July 14, 2025, Kuwaiti citizens will be able to apply for Indian e-visas — a move hailed as a significant step in easing travel and strengthening bilateral ties. 'Kuwaiti citizens will now be able to apply for Indian visas entirely online,' announced Dr. Adarsh Swaika, India's Ambassador to Kuwait, on Sunday. Speaking at a press conference, Dr. Swaika described the launch of the e-visa platform as a 'qualitative shift' in the way the two nations engage. 'This has been a long-standing request from Kuwaiti citizens,' he noted, 'and it reflects the enduring historic ties between our countries.' The digital platform allows Kuwaitis to apply under five visa categories — tourism, business, medical, conference, and AYUSH (which covers alternative medicine, including yoga and Ayurveda) — without the need to visit a visa centre. All steps, including application, documentation, and payment, can now be completed online. Dr. Swaika said biometric data will be collected upon arrival at Indian airports. Most applications are expected to be processed within three to four days, although some minor technical issues may arise as the system is rolled out. Among the system's highlights: tourist visas will be valid for up to five years and will cost $80. Other visa types range from $40 to $80, depending on the purpose and duration of the visit. The ambassador called the initiative a gesture of goodwill aligned with India's broader effort to modernize consular services and deepen engagement with the Gulf region. He highlighted the special significance of this launch in Kuwait, a country with which India shares deep diplomatic and cultural connections.
