Tamil Nadu Tourism and ODOP walls inaugurated
Ambassador of India H.E. Vinod K. Jacob inaugurated the Tamil Nadu Tourism and One District One Product (ODOP) walls at the Consular hall of the Embassy in the presence of Tamil community living in Bahrain. These walls highlight touristic attractions as well as exquisite products identified under ODOP scheme, of the state of Tamil Nadu.
Under the 'focus state/union territory' initiative of Embassy of India, touristic and ODOP products of a particular state/ Union territory are being promoted in Bahrain for a period of around one month. Tamil Nadu is the ninth focus state to be featured at the State/ Union Territory Wall in the Consular hall, after Rajasthan, Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Initiative The Embassy actively engages the Indian community for its focus state initiative in sourcing the ODOP products for display at the Embassy.
ODOP initiative aims to select, brand, and promote at least one product from each district of the country for enabling holistic socio-economic growth across all regions. Under this initiative, all products have been selected by States/UTs by taking into consideration the existing ecosystem on the ground, products identified under Districts as Export Hubs and GI-tagged products. Tamil Nadu, located in the southern part of India, is one of the country's top tourist destinations, known for its rich cultural heritage, ancient temples, scenic landscapes, and vibrant traditions. Hill stations Apart from temples, Tamil Nadu also boasts beautiful hill stations like Ooty and Kodaikanal, which offer pleasant weather and lush green landscapes, making them ideal retreats from the summer heat. Tamil Nadu's tourism offers a perfect blend of history, culture, nature, and spirituality.
The state attracts millions of domestic and international tourists every year, making tourism a vital part of its economy. One-minute silence The event at the Embassy started off by observing one-minute silence as a mark of respect in memory of those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack. On the occasion, speaking in Tamil, Ambassador Jacob thanked the Bharathi Association for assisting the Embassy in sourcing the ODOP items. A colourful cultural performance in addition to a variety of traditional cuisines were also organized by Bharathi Association.

India Orders Inspection of Boeing Jet Fuel Switches After Deadly Crash
Indian aviation authorities have directed airlines to inspect fuel control switches on several Boeing aircraft models, following a tragic Air India crash last month that claimed 260 lives. That bulletin warned that these switches should be checked to ensure they can't be moved accidentally during flight. 'Several domestic and international operators have already begun inspections in accordance with FAA guidance,' the DGCA said in a statement. The tragic crash occurred on June 12, when an Air India Dreamliner flying from Ahmedabad to London went down shortly after takeoff. The accident killed 241 of the 242 people on board, along with 19 people on the ground. Air India CEO Campbell Wilson urged staff to avoid drawing early conclusions. In a letter to employees, he emphasized that the investigation is still underway and that all findings must be based on facts. South Korea has also announced plans to order similar checks on Boeing aircraft operated by its airlines. The crash has triggered global concern, with regulators taking swift action to ensure safety measures are thoroughly enforced.

India Launches E-Visa For Kuwait From July 14: 5-Year Tourist Visas Available
Beginning Monday, July 14, 2025, Kuwaiti citizens will be able to apply for Indian e-visas — a move hailed as a significant step in easing travel and strengthening bilateral ties. 'Kuwaiti citizens will now be able to apply for Indian visas entirely online,' announced Dr. Adarsh Swaika, India's Ambassador to Kuwait, on Sunday. Speaking at a press conference, Dr. Swaika described the launch of the e-visa platform as a 'qualitative shift' in the way the two nations engage. 'This has been a long-standing request from Kuwaiti citizens,' he noted, 'and it reflects the enduring historic ties between our countries.' The digital platform allows Kuwaitis to apply under five visa categories — tourism, business, medical, conference, and AYUSH (which covers alternative medicine, including yoga and Ayurveda) — without the need to visit a visa centre. All steps, including application, documentation, and payment, can now be completed online. Dr. Swaika said biometric data will be collected upon arrival at Indian airports. Most applications are expected to be processed within three to four days, although some minor technical issues may arise as the system is rolled out. Among the system's highlights: tourist visas will be valid for up to five years and will cost $80. Other visa types range from $40 to $80, depending on the purpose and duration of the visit. The ambassador called the initiative a gesture of goodwill aligned with India's broader effort to modernize consular services and deepen engagement with the Gulf region.
