Ground search suspended for missing Grand Bay-Westfield, N.B., woman
Ruth Carol Sutton was reported missing Sunday morning. She was lest seen walking on Mallard Drive around 9:10 a.m.
Police say Sutton suffers from a medical condition which may cause her to become disoriented.
Grand Bay-Westfield Mayor Brittany Merrifield confirmed the news through a social media post after speaking with the RCMP detachment in the community.
'While this part of the operation is on hold, I want to reassure everyone that search teams are ready to redeploy if new evidence comes to light,' the post reads.
'Community volunteers are still welcome to continue their efforts. I understand that some are planning to head out in boats [Wednesday], and I deeply respect and appreciate the continued determination to help.'
A number of boats were seen searching the Saint John riverbanks Wednesday morning, with search efforts being focused on the Nerpis side of the bridge, closer to where Sutton was last seen.
A tent for volunteers aiding in the search has been moved to Brundage Point.
'I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who has been involved,' Merrifield says.
'From search and rescue professionals to the many volunteers who have stepped forward without hesitation. Your commitment, care, and selflessness have made a powerful impact.'
Police have received several leads and tips on Sutton's whereabouts, but efforts to locate her have been unsuccessful so far.
Sutton is described by police as standing approximately five-foot-two and weighing around 130 pounds, with blue eyes and white hair. She was last seen wearing a light blue jacket, rubber boots to her ankles, and white socks.
Police ask anyone with information on Sutton's whereabouts to contact them at 506-757-1020.

Northern Ont. teen charged after attempted U-Haul theft

Officers reviewed the footage and gathered additional evidence at the scene before locating the suspect a short time later and taking him into custody without incident. As a result, the 19-year-old man faces charges of attempted theft of a motor vehicle and failure to comply with a probation order. The accused was held pending a bail hearing. Calgary man home after cycling more than 500 kilometres across Iowa for veterans
Geoff Low and his wife returned to Calgary after cycling more than 500 kilometres across Iowa to raise money for the Veterans Association. A Calgarian has returned home after an ambitious journey -- raising money for veterans. Last month, CTV News reported about veteran Geoff Low preparing to take part in a bike ride with his wife Rosanne, called 'Rag-Brai' to raise awareness and funds for the Veterans Association. After seven days cycling more than 500 kilometres across Iowa, he crossed the finish line and raised a few hundred dollars including a donation from an American Legion. Low said he's planning on going back next year -- and hopes to inspire more veterans across the province and country to join him. 'The more people I can get to join us, the better it is for us because then we can relate to each other,' Low said. 'We can talk to each other. It doesn't even have to be other veterans, it's the ones that want to sit and listen to our stories and be heard.' Although this year's ride is done, Low is encouraging people to provide support to the Veterans Association.
