Harbhajan Singh backs Kuldeep Yadav for India's XI in the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 at Old Trafford, suggesting Nitish Kumar Reddy be dropped for Kuldeep.
India's legendary off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has supported the inclusion of left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI for the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 at Old Trafford, Manchester.
Harbhajan believes Kuldeep can be the mystery bowler for Shubman Gill's side, providing crucial breakthroughs.
'I had said before the Lord's Test and also for the Birmingham Test that Kuldeep should play. Because the kind of free flowing batting these Englishmen do, it is not that easy to him. If such a spinner spins it both sides, then he can become a mystery bowler and take wickets at crucial times," Harbhajan Singh was quoted as saying to Sports Tak.
'In Test cricket, it is not just that they are waiting for the new ball. Let a few overs be bowled. If nothing much is happening, then Kuldeep Yadav can take wickets," he added.
Which Player Can Be Dropped For 4th Test?
Asked about which player would make way for Kuldeep in the playing XI, Harbhajan named pace-bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. He also expressed that young top-order batsman Sai Sudharsan was unfairly dropped after his Test debut at Edgbaston.
'If it was my team, I would drop Nitish and bring Kuldeep directly in the team. Whereas if there was a change in the top order, I would back Sai Sudarshan a little more. I would not have sidelined him after the first match. I think he is very capable, he is a very good player," Harbhajan said.
Reddy's performance in the Test series so far has been mixed. He scored two single-digit figures in the Edgbaston Test and remained wicketless. In the Lord's Test, he provided two crucial breakthroughs in his first over, took a wicket in the second innings but was unimpressive with the bat, scoring 30 in the first innings and 13 in the run chase.
As for the venueof the fourth Test, it is at Manchester, where India is yet to win a Test match and are playing at the venue after a gap of 11 years. Additionally, Indian bowlers have not managed to take all 20 wickets in a single Test at Old Trafford.

ABVIMAS trainer completes first-ever free solo paragliding flight from 6,080-metre peak in Mount Shinkun East

In yet another milestone for the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (ABVIMAS), Manali, one of its trainers executed a first-ever free solo paragliding flight from the summit of Mount Shinkun East — a 6,080-metre-high peak located in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. 'This aero-land expedition was a part of an advanced mountaineering course that began at the ABVIMAS headquarters in Manali on June 30. The course included 58 trainees from across India, among them an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) from Punjab Police. The trainees first underwent advanced rock climbing and acclimatisation training in Manali to prepare for high-altitude conditions,' Avinash Negi, director, ABVIMAS Manali, said. He said that following this initial phase, the group was moved to the ABVIMAS Jispa Centre in Lahaul for intensive snow and ice craft training. The region, known for receiving relatively low rainfall, offers consistently favourable conditions for high-altitude training. A secondary objective of choosing this location, the director said, was to promote Himalayan peaks in Lahaul and Spiti among both Indian and international mountaineers and adventure enthusiasts. As part of their final training leg — the summit climb — a base camp was established near Shinkula Pass at an altitude of 4,200 metres. The summit expedition began at 1 am with all team members embarking on the ascent under the cover of night. By 8.35 am, the team had successfully summited Mount Shinkun East. Out of the total 58 trainees, 52 (including 7 women), along with 13 instructors, reached the summit. Among the instructors was Gimnar, a paragliding expert who created history by executing a free solo paragliding flight from the peak and successfully landed at the base camp after a 15-minute descent. The trainees are expected to return to the Manali campus of ABVIMAS on July 23.

‘Picking Kuldeep can be the right move but how would you fit him in?': Steve Harmison says India might have to make some tough calls at Manchester

With the Old Trafford pitch expected to assist spinners as the match progresses, former England pacer Steve Harmison batted for Kuldeep Yadav to be included in India's playing XI for the 4th Test at Manchester, set to begin on Wednesday. However, the 46-year-old acknowledged that adding Kuldeep in an already well-balanced side might pose a dilemma in case India opt to line up with 2 spinners with one being Kuldeep. That would mean either leaving out Washington Sundar or Ravindra Jadeja which Harmison says will be a pretty tough call. 'The wicket in the fourth Test is not going to offer bounce to Kuldeep, but it will spin as the Test match progresses. And with the last three Tests all going deep into the fifth day, India have to seriously consider playing a second or even a third spinner,' Harmison said. 'At the moment, their side is well-balanced. But the challenge lies in finding a way to bring Kuldeep Yadav in. You cannot drop Washington Sundar or Ravindra Jadeja. So, can you play three spinners? That would be a big call, especially considering the situation around Jasprit Bumrah. Picking Kuldeep can be the right move, but how would you fit him in? There may have to be a tough decision — is it Sundar who misses out? I wouldn't want to be the one making that call,' he added. Harmison also expects conditions at Old Trafford to mirror those at Edgbaston and Lord's — low-scoring, lacking in pace and bounce, but breaking up as the match wears on. 'If it's going to rain anywhere in England, and it hasn't rained here in almost three months, it'll be in Manchester. If there's any venue where you might consider playing two spinners or even three spinners, it's Manchester,' he said. While he expects India to weigh up the spin-heavy option, Harmison said England were unlikely to follow suit. 'England won't go that route, they have got Liam Dawson, but India might consider it. I expect a wicket very similar to what we saw at Edgbaston and Lord's, one that will break up as the game progresses and offer turn later on. 'But I don't see much pace or bounce in it, and once again, we could be looking at a lower-scoring affair.' (With agency inputs)

Representing the nation gives me all the energy I need: Siraj

Mohammed Siraj has bowled relentlessly in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Having featured in all three Tests so far, he has claimed 13 wickets, becoming one of India's standout performers in the series. However, as he gears up for the fourth Test at Old Trafford, it's playing for the country that keeps him going. 'There's no real secret. When you play for your country, that in itself is the biggest motivation,' Siraj said on Monday. 'Representing the nation gives me all the energy I need. My only aim is to give 100% on the field so that when I go back and rest at night, I don't have regrets like 'I could've done this' or 'I missed that.' Results can go either way — but I must always give my best.' With Jasprit Bumrah playing just two matches so far, Siraj has bowled 109 overs in the series, but he is not too worried about his workload. 'God has kept me in good health. The record books will show that Siraj has bowled this much or that much, but my only aim is to play as many games as possible for the country and help the team win,' he said. Siraj wants to keep contributing to the team's success. However, he hasn't set any targets for himself. 'I'm bowling really well, but sometimes luck doesn't favor you. Every bowler wants a wicket every time they bowl. I tell myself that even if I don't get wickets today, I'll get them in the next match. I believe God is watching my effort — he got me here, and he'll take me further. So I stay patient,' he said. 'I do get frustrated when I'm beating the bat again and again and not getting wickets, but I stay grounded and keep doing my job.' Siraj also added that Bumrah will play at Old Trafford. 'Jassi bhai toh khelenge hi (Bumrah will definitely play). That's what I know.'
