2026 Buick Envision Review, Pricing, and Specs

Car and Driver20-05-2025
Overview
Buick's compact Envision SUV aims for big names in the luxury crossover space but doesn't quite reach their level. Instead of a full-on luxury experience, it and other Buicks provide more of a half-step between, say, a Chevy and a Cadillac. This is at least reflected in its price, which is a good chunk lower than those of its supposed competitors, including the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Cadillac XT5, Lincoln Corsair, and Mercedes-Benz GLC-class. The Envision is certainly handsome and, in typical Buick fashion, the ride is comfortable, and leather upholstery comes standard. But the other materials aren't what we'd expect of a luxury automaker, and it feels down on power.
What's New for 2026?
Very little changes for the Envision this year. The most noticeable differences are in the color palette, which loses three hues—Calypso Blue Metallic, Smokey Amethyst Metallic, and White Frost Tricoat—while two new ones have been added. Quartz Blue Metallic is newly available across the range, while Midnight Opal is exclusive to the Avenir model.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The price of the 2026 Buick Envision is expected to start around $38,000 and go up to $48,000 depending on the trim and options.

While the Buick Envision Avenir is indulgent in terms of features, its price premium leads us to choose the Sport Touring model, which adds a fair number of standard goodies, such as blackout exterior trim, without going overboard. We recommend adding the Comfort and Convenience Package, which includes a heated steering wheel, heated driver and front passenger seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, an air quality indicator, automatic air recirculation, a universal home remote, and a hands-free power liftgate.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
All Envisions come with the same engine: a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder rated at 228 horsepower. A nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are both standard. The Envision is down on power compared to its competition and, as a result, its acceleration trails theirs. There is a Sport driving mode, but even with it engaged performance remains unexciting. Nonetheless, as you might expect from a Buick, the Envision's priority is ride comfort, not driver engagement. On that note, the Envision doesn't disappoint. This is one relaxed cruiser.
0–60-MPH Times
When we put the Envision through its paces at our test track, the Buick delivered an uninspired 7.3-second 60-mph run. Still, its on-road performance should suit the majority of buyers.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA hasn't released the 2026 Envision's fuel economy estimates yet, but the 2025 model was rated for 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. When we get a chance to put the new Envision through our 75-mph highway fuel economy route, we'll update this story with results. For more information about the Envision's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Despite its price tag, you'll find that many of the Envision's luxury features are optional, even on the mid-level Sport Touring model—except for leather seating, which is standard. Interior ambiance is merely average, not awesome, although the instrument panel design is contemporary and sports a massive 30-inch display with a mid-century modern shape that's quite fetching. The interior is spacious for a compact SUV but doesn't feel at all luxurious unless you go for the Avenir trim. Even then, the Envision doesn't come across as upscale as its German competition. But the Avenir does offer frills such as quilted leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a massaging driver's seat. And, as an SUV, the Envision is undeniably practical. In our testing, this compact Buick was able to fit 21 carry-on suitcases inside with its rear seats folded flat.

Infotainment and Connectivity
When it comes to connectivity, the Envision doesn't disenchant. All models come with a head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hotspot, SiriusXM satellite radio, in-dash navigation, a nine-speaker Bose stereo, four USB ports, and active noise-cancellation. But the main attraction is its large 30-inch display, which houses both the driver's instrument cluster and the infotainment system.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Buick offers plenty of driver-assistance features as standard on the Envision, including an adaptive cruise control system with a lane-centering feature, automatic high-beam headlamps, and a 360-degree exterior camera system. For more information about the Envision's crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:
Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist
Standard adaptive cruise control with a lane-centering feature
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Buick's standard warranty package matches what many of its rivals offer, but the Envision's included single service visit pales in comparison with the plans of the BMW X3 and the Jaguar F-Pace, both of which provide far lengthier terms for complimentary scheduled maintenance.
Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
Complimentary maintenance is covered for the first visit

Better EV Stock: Alphabet vs. Tesla (Hint: Robotaxis Are the Key)

Key Points The future of the auto industry lies in electric vehicles and ridesharing in autonomous vehicles. After many years in service, Waymo still can't point to a timeline of profitability. Tesla also faces challenges with its robotaxi offering, but it's well positioned, provided it can demonstrate safety and efficacy. These 10 stocks could mint the next wave of millionaires › Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) isn't, strictly speaking, an electric vehicle (EV) company. However, its autonomous driving technology company, Waymo, is committed to only using EVs in its fleet. Funnily enough, it could be argued that Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) isn't really a pure EV company either. After all, most of its sky–high valuation is attributable to the potential of its robotaxis. However, the comparison of these two as EV companies is valid because the future of the auto industry is EVs, and ridesharing in autonomous vehicles will be a larger part of the industry in the future. But which company is better placed, and which is the better stock? Alphabet vs. Tesla It's entirely possible that Alphabet could decide to spin off Waymo, not least because it reportedly could be valued at more than $45 billion. Meanwhile, one of Tesla's biggest supporters, Cathie Wood's Ark Invest, ascribes 88% of Tesla's enterprise value (market cap plus net debt) to robotaxis in its investment case for the stock, producing an expected value of $2,600 for the stock in 2029. As I have previously discussed, the Ark targets should be taken with a pinch of salt, as its track record on Tesla hasn't been good. However, Ark's core argument is sound and points to Tesla being potentially a far more valuable stock than Waymo ever will be. Pathways to profitability The core argument is that Tesla's business model is scalable to profitability while Waymo's is far less so. The issue of Waymo's profitability arose in a recent CNBC interview with Waymo co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana, where she was asked whether Waymo is profitable. She replied, "We're proving out that it can be a profitable business." When asked when Waymo would be profitable, she replied, "not clear." It's also not clear if Alphabet/Waymo doesn't have an internal forecast for when it will hit profitability, or if Mawakana preferred not to divulge what the company considers an uncertain forecast. However, it's inconceivable that Alphabet is not internally crunching the numbers on this, and if it does decide to spin off Waymo, it's a question that needs to be answered. The point here is that a business that can't be profitable isn't worth anything, let alone $45 billion, so at some point, its management is going to have to set some timelines. Tesla and timelines Whereas investors need to hear more about timelines from Waymo, whose public self-driving ride-hailing service was launched in 2018, there's probably a need for fewer declared timelines from Tesla, or, rather, a need for more accurate ones. For example, in 2019, CEO Elon Musk famously told investors to expect a million self-driving vehicles on the road by mid-2020. In April 2022, he also stated that Tesla aspired to reach volume production of a dedicated robotaxi (Cybercab) in 2024 -- a timeline that has now been pushed back to 2026. These timeline estimates matter because plugging overly optimistic assumptions from them into valuation models can produce dramatically erroneous conclusions. Why Tesla is better positioned With all that said, Tesla has clear advantages over Waymo, provided it can demonstrate safety and reliability and achieve regulatory approvals. Its advantages include: Lower vehicle costs, with Musk aiming for a $30,000 price tag for a dedicated robotaxi, the Cybercab. Meanwhile, Wall Street analysts estimate Waymo's current vehicles cost more than $120,000. In addition, Tesla manufactures its own cars (Waymo does not), and existing Teslas can be converted into robotaxis using Tesla's as-yet-unreleased-to-the-public unsupervised full self-driving (FSD) software, giving Tesla a significant advantage in scaling the robotaxi business. Tesla's use of camera-centric technology is inherently less expensive than Waymo's combination of cameras, light detection and ranging (Lidar) lasers, and high-definition maps. Every Tesla car (robotaxi or not) on the road is effectively a data gatherer, with the data used to improve the AI that powers its AI models. As such, even though Waymo was first, Tesla has significantly more data than Waymo. Which is the better EV stock? Waymo may become profitable in the future, particularly if Lidar costs continue to drop. However, it's challenging to think that it will be a strong competitor to Tesla, provided Musk's company can master safe, unsupervised FSD using a camera-centric approach. That's a big "if" at this stage, but it becomes a smaller "if" as time goes by and Tesla expands its nascent robotaxi offering across new geographies. Tesla's next robotaxi launch is expected to be in Phoenix, as it plans to continue slowly building its robotaxi business. I think Tesla is the better EV stock when comparing Tesla and Alphabet. Want a free E-ZPass transponder? Delaware's giving them away in August

Delaware motorists have the opportunity to receive a free E-ZPass transponder during a month-long promotion this August. The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles and E-ZPass Delaware are offering the free devices to anyone who opens a new individual E-ZPass Delaware account between Aug. 1 and Aug. 31, 2025. The offer does not apply to commercial accounts. Delaware E-ZPass account holders pay lower toll rates than out-of-state drivers or those using toll-by-plate. To help drivers estimate costs more accurately, the Delaware Department of Transportation will update its online toll calculator on Aug. 1. The update will reflect new rates for the state's three toll roads and pricing for vehicles with additional axles. To open an account, customers can visit call 1-888-397-2773, or visit an E-ZPass location in person. These include the E-ZPass Service Center in Dover and toll plazas in Dover, Middletown (Biddles Corner) and Newark. Walk-in service at toll plazas is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Toll fee increases set for August This free transponder event comes as tolls on several of Delaware's major roads are set to rise. Beginning Aug. 1, new rates will apply to I-95 in Newark, the US 301 Mainline and State Route 1 at Biddles Corner and Dover. On I-95 in Newark, the toll for two-axle vehicles will rise from $4.00 to $5.00 for both cash and E-ZPass users. At US 301 Mainline, the toll for two-axle E-ZPass users will increase from $4.00 to $5.00, while toll-by-plate customers will pay $7.00, up from $5.60. Toll amounts for interchanges along US 301 will vary. Drivers on SR 1 at Biddles Corner and Dover will see the following changes: Delaware E-ZPass holders: Weekday toll: $1.50 (two-axle vehicles) Weekend toll: $4.00 Cash and non-Delaware E-ZPass users: Weekday toll: $2.50 Weekend toll: $6.00 Can I use my Delaware E-ZPass outside of the state? Yes, the transponder works in the E-ZPass network, which includes Delaware and 18 other states. The 18 other states are: New Jersey Pennsylvania Maryland New York Massachusetts New Hampshire Maine Rhode Island Virginia West Virginia North Carolina Geogia Florida Kentucky Ohio Indiana Illinois Minnesota DMV fee increases to begin in October The Delaware Department of Transportation has also announced increases to DMV fees beginning on Oct. 1, 2025. Changes include a 1% increase to the document fee applied to vehicle transactions. Trump claims he's made a ‘massive' trade deal with Japan

President Donald Trump boasted Tuesday that he had made a 'massive' deal with Japan that would generate 'thousands of jobs' and billions of dollars for the U.S. The president announced the trade framework – 'perhaps the largest Deal ever made' – in a Truth Social post Tuesday, revealing that a 15 percent tax on goods imported from Japan had been agreed. In the post Trump said Japan would invest 'at my direction' $550 billion into the U.S. and would 'open' its economy to American-made vehicles as well as 'rice' and 'other things.' But further details remained scant. The 15 percent tax on imported Japanese goods is a significant drop from the 25 percent rate that Trump, in a recent letter to Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, said would be levied starting on August 1. 'This Deal will create Hundreds of Thousands of Jobs — There has never been anything like it,' the president posted on Truth Social, adding that the United States 'will continue to always have a great relationship with the Country of Japan.' 'This is a very exciting time for the United States of America, and especially for the fact that we will continue to always have a great relationship with the Country of Japan. Thank you for your attention to this matter!' Early Wednesday in Tokyo, Japanese Prime Minister Shigera Ishiba confirmed the new trade agreement, saying it would benefit both sides and help them work together. 'The government was determined to protect national interests,' Ishiba told reporters, per the Wall Street Journal. Trump's announcement appeared to excite investors, with the benchmark Nikkei – the Tokyo stock market – climbing 2.6 percent to its highest in a year, with shares of automakers also surging. Toyota grew by more than 11 percent, with Honda and Nissan both up more than 8 percent. But American automakers were less buoyed with the deal, with concerns raised over low import levies from Japan, compared to tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico remaining at 25 percent. Matt Blunt, head of the American Automotive Policy Council, said, "Any deal that charges a lower tariff for Japanese imports with virtually no U.S. content than the tariff imposed on North American-built vehicles with high U.S. content is a bad deal for U.S. industry and U.S. auto workers.'
