Want a House by Frank Lloyd Wright? There's a Support Group for That.

Laurence Frank was enjoying a quiet dinner at his brother's home in San Mateo, Calif., one summer evening in 2022 when he got a call: His house was on fire.
Fortunately for Dr. Frank, the small blaze had been extinguished by the time he arrived at the scene. Unfortunately for the house, a 1939 design by Frank Lloyd Wright in Hillsborough, Calif., the fire department did so by sawing off the end of the roof.
An insurance adjuster stopped by a few days later to assess the damage, and Dr. Frank explained that the house was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the pre-eminent 20th-century American architect.
'He had no idea what I was talking about,' said Dr. Frank, who grew up in the house and works as a wildlife biologist studying African carnivores. 'At that point, I knew I was in trouble.'
He had reason to be worried. Finding a local contractor to conduct faithful repairs and source the right materials (say, rotary-cut redwood veneers) would be daunting. As would the bills.

Boat catches fire near Cape Canaveral, passengers saved

First responders rescued four people from a burning boat off the coast of Cape Canaveral, Florida, on Saturday. The 61-foot sailboat was about one mile offshore when flames broke out, Canaveral Fire Rescue confirmed to Fox News Digital. Witness video taken from nearby Jetty Park Beach shows thick, dark smoke billowing over the ocean. The man who took the video told newsgathering website Storyful that the boat "went up real fast" and it "sounded like there were a few explosions." The four onboard "safely evacuated to another bystander's boat and were brought in by Brevard County Sheriff's Office with no injuries," Canaveral Fire Rescue said. Another vessel assisted in putting out the fire, Storyful reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the United States Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Neither immediately responded to inquiries from Fox News Digital. Cape Canaveral is a hub for U.S. space travel. It is home to the Kennedy Space Center – which hosts launches for NASA, SpaceX and Blue Origin – as well as a Space Force military base

The Chan-Zuckerbergs stopped funding social causes. 400 kids lost their school.

When Priscilla Chan opened a school for disadvantaged kids in 2016 with her husband, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, she took aim at some of America's thorniest challenges. 'A persistent academic achievement gap separates white children and children of color — and wealthier children and their lower-income peers,' the school's website said. 'A similarly large health gap mirrors these differences.'

Firefighters save San Diego apartments from patio fire

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Firefighters were able to save an apartment complex from catching fire after several nearby patios went up in flames in San Diego Saturday evening. San Diego Fire-Rescue firefighters arrived to find several patios on fire at an apartment building in the 4300 block of Altadena Avenue in the Colina Del Sol neighborhood just after 5 p.m. Saturday. Car flips in Santee, striking fire hydrant and causing 50-foot geyser An SDFD battalion chief said the fire started when some residents were cooking on their patio and it grew, engulfing several other patios and a fence, threatening a nearby larger apartment complex. Firefighters arrived on the scene quickly and sprayed fire lines between the apartment complexes, stopping the fire from spreading to the neighboring complex, according to SDFD. All residents were evacuated before first responders arrived, SDFD said. However, one person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Firefighters stayed at the scene for a short time Saturday after they put out the fire to inspect the building and check for any sign of fire in the attic. In total, 32 San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel battled the fire, which was fully put out by 7 p.m. Saturday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
