Blind Date reboot set for huge return with Love Island inspired twist

Daily Mirror3 days ago

Iconic dating show Blind Date is set for another reboot with it said to be getting a Love Island-style twist when it airs on Disney+
One of the most iconic gameshows is set to return to our screens, but with a twist. Fans of eighties television will be buzzing at the news that Blind Date is set for a reboot.
The dating show which was hosted by Cilla Black is set for a revival. However, instead of its previous ITV home, the show is set to appear on Disney+.

And in a dramatic twist, the show will see contestants spend time on a tropical island as hopefuls compete for a dream wedding on the golden sands. An insider claims the show will have "hints of Love Island about it".

Talking to the Sun, the source said it's a "radical departure" from the old style Blind Date. They told the publication: "But fans will recall a lot of the dates took place in hot, sunny climes abroad, and producers want to recapture some of the steamy fun, and expand upon that.
'Even the wedding element has hints of the old show, because the dream was always that the dates on the programme would lead to couples tying the knot.'
And they added that not all of the old characteristics will be eliminated, with plans still set to incorporate the show's famous sliding wall. The source went on to say the show's producers hope to "hire a top female host just like Cilla".
It's said a star-studded line-up of female hosts are being eyed up to step into Cilla's shoes. Among those being rumoured are Holly Willoughby, Davina McCall and The Traitors ' Claudia Winkleman.
It's unknown whether the show will provide a replacement for voiceover Graham Skidmore, aka 'Our Graham'.

The show's return was speculated earlier this month, 22 years after it last aired. The ITV show originally aired on Saturday nights from 1985-2003. At the time, saw hundreds of couples meet for the first time looking for love.
Like most dating shows, many didn't last past the studio doors, however a number of couples did make it all the way to the alter.
Any reboot won't be the first time the show has been revived. Most recently, in 2017, the show made its return on Channel 5. It came two years after the death of original host Cilla Black - with Paul O'Grady replacing the late host.
Melanie Sykes also joined the show as a replacement for 'Our Graham' providing the iconic voiceover. The show ran for four series until June 2019. Original voiceover Graham died in 2021 at age 90, seven years after the death of host Cilla Black in 2015.

I was on ITV 1% Club with Lee Mack and was shocked by the scenes we had to fake

The 1% Club has been an instant hit with viewers - but fans may be surprised to learn that some scenes are actually fake, according to one former contestant. ITV's The 1% Club, hosted by Lee Mack of Not Going Out fame, has taken the nation by storm since its launch in 2022. This primetime IQ game show distinguishes itself by asking contestants logical and common-sense questions rather than relying on general knowledge. With 100 competitors initially in the running, they are gradually eliminated until someone manages to answer a fiendishly difficult question within 30 seconds—a question that supposedly only 1% of the population can solve correctly—in hopes of snagging the £100,000 prize. ‌ However, a twist behind the scenes has emerged, thanks to a previous contestant revealing some surprising production secrets. Heidi Phillips, 49, divulged details about her experience on the highly-rated ITV show which she participated in October of the preceding year. ‌ Having secured her spot on the show after spotting an advert on Facebook and passing a mock quiz via Zoom, Heidi tells all in a conversation with Fruity Slots. Exposing the true goings-on during filming, she let slip that not everything viewers see is as it happens live. According to her account, while participants focus on answering questions on their tablets, host Lee Mack is busy cracking jokes for the audiences at home. However, here lies the rub: Heidi let on that Lee's humorous interludes aren't shot concurrently with the contestant's efforts. She elaborated in her chat with Fruity Slots, elucidating: "While contestants are answering questions on the tablet, Lee usually takes the time to make a joke to the audience at home. But all his comical parts are filmed later. "When we're answering the question, he remains silent. Then he has to be filmed asking the question again and we have to pretend to put our answers in. That was a bit weird!". ‌ Heidi also revealed that contestants had to adhere to a stringent rule on the show, which, if violated, would result in them having to immediately return any prize money. The contestant, who exited the programme at the 35% question, explained: "When we got put in our seats in the studio, they gave us the tablets and told us it was important to keep our eyes firmly locked on the screens and not look at each other. ‌ "There were actually invigilators who go back through the show episode to make sure every contestant plays the game fairly. "You could have won the cash prize but if they go back through filming and see you glanced over at another contestant's screen before answering, you'll forfeit the prize." Heidi added: "That's not happened yet - but it was a stern warning!". ‌ Despite the strict warning from producers, Heidi said host, Lee, is very charming and "naturally funny", sharing: "He's honestly really funny. Very naturally funny. He also has banter with the warm-up comedian and creates a nice atmosphere." She also expressed her eagerness to return to the show and praised the programme's staff for "going back over the funny anecdotes I'd shared with them and make sure I'd be happy to discuss it on the show if Lee (Mack) wanted to". Heidi, who noted the importance of dressing appropriately for the show, avoiding anything "nothing low cut", remarked: "They seemed really concerned about our welfare and us being happy to share things on TV. They really took the time to check in with us." For those eager to participate and lucky enough to reach the audition stage, Heidi's tip is: "When they ask you how you'll spend the winnings, don't say something boring like paying off the mortgage. Give a really wild question," and shared her humorous approach by saying: "I made silly jokes that if I won the prize, I'd spend it on opening a trifle sandwich shop." Zara McDermott gets the family seal of approval as she cuddles up with boyfriend Louis Tomlinson's sister Lottie at Glastonbury

has seemingly been given the family seal of approval as she was snapped cuddling up to boyfriend Louis Tomlinson 's sister Lottie at Glastonbury on Saturday. The former Love Island star, 28, and the One Direction hunk, 33, have been dating since March, just months after her split from Made In Chelsea 's Sam Thompson, 32. The pair's relationship has gone from strength to strength, with the couple having been travelling the world together, holidaying in Costa Rica and Los Angeles. But now it seems that their relationship has the added strength of the blessing of his make-up artist sister Lottie, 26, whom he has a close bond with. Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Lottie shared a plethora of snaps from her time at the festival at Worthy Farm, which she enjoyed with Louis, Zara and fiancé Lewis Burton. Proving she was accepting of her brother's new romance, Lottie snuggled in close to Zara, who wrapped an arm around her waist, as they posed in the field together. Fans were quick to take to the comments to share their excitement over the seemingly newfound friend between Zara and her boyfriend's sister. They penned: 'YOU AND ZARA OMG'; 'You and Zara are my favorite duo!' 'Nice when your siblings and partners get along so well' 'Don't even care about the Louis and lottie post (I do) But ZARA AND LOTTIE I WANTED IT OMG.' Meanwhile, Lottie also shared a plethora of snaps from her time at the festival, with the mother-of-two looking loved up with partner Lewis. Her cheeky big brother even photobombed a photo of the couple as they attempted a romantic snap. Elsewhere, Louis' bizarre Glastonbury festival set-up has been revealed. The performer, who regularly attends the music event, has reportedly got himself a tent solely for booze as he camps out with his mates instead of staying in a hotel. Lottie also shared a plethora of snaps from her time at the festival, with the mother-of-two looking loved up with partner Lewis A source told The Mirror: 'Louis is determined to make it a weekend to remember and has planned everything with military like precision - including making sure enough booze is available. He has his own tent - and one just for the drinks.' Though Zara has been enjoying the festivities with him, she's been staying off site and not setting up camp with Louis. The source added: 'Everyone is saying it's a nice break for him and Zara but it's a great way also for Zara to meet his mates. It will definitely be a boozy one and not a particularly romantic one.' MailOnline have contacted representatives of Louis for comment. It comes after Zara and Louis put on a loved up display as they strolled hand-in-hand through Worthy Farm as Glastonbury Festival kicked off on Thursday. The couple cut low key figures as they were spotted soaking up the Somerset sun at the iconic music event. Louis wore a graphic football shirt which he teamed with black cargo trousers and shielded his famous features beneath shades and a baseball cap. Meanwhile Zara, who also sported sunglasses, wore an black adidas top with dark trousers and tied back her long blonde locks in a ponytail. It comes just hours after Louis was spotted smoking with friends in what was believed to be a lad's only trip and weekend of partying. The pop star later supported Zara, who he was first linked to in March, as she spoke on a panel for charity Refuge, for a talk entitled How to Create Societal Change: Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls.

X Factor icon looks completely different two decades on from hit reality show

X Factor icon Rowetta looks unrecognisable 19 years on as she stuns in a tartan miniskirt and thigh-high boots, proving her bold style is still going strong at 57 X Factor fans might do a double-take after seeing one of the show's original stars looking completely different nearly two decades after finding fame. Rowetta Satchell, or simply Rowetta, as she was known to millions, was one of the standout acts on the very first series of The X Factor back in 2004. The powerhouse soul singer wowed judges with her unforgettable take on Lady Marmalade, and her bold vocals and big personality quickly made her a fan favourite. ‌ Already known from her days with legendary band Happy Mondays, Rowetta made it all the way to the quarter-finals of the ITV talent show, finishing fourth overall and becoming the last woman left standing, without ever facing the dreaded sing-off. ‌ Fast-forward 19 years, and the 57-year-old is still commanding attention. Rowetta recently turned heads as she posed in a tartan miniskirt and leopard-print thigh-high boots on her way to an Indie Reunion event. She paired the look with a statement tee reading, "The ravers united will never be defeated." She told fans she was "on my way." Simon Cowell once famously described her as "amazing but barking bloody mad", and it's fair to say her bold style and fearless energy haven't faded one bit. In an interview with the singer opened up about her journey on the ITV competition, her music career, and why she never returned to reality TV despite being flooded with offers. ‌ According to Rowetta, after The X Factor propelled her to TV fame in 2004, she turned down shows like Big Brother and I'm A Celebrity, only making exceptions for Children in Need and BBC Music Day. Rowetta's journey began in Leeds when Kate Thornton introduced her to the judges before live auditions were part of the show's format. Her renditions of Lady Marmalade and Circle of Life wowed Simon and Sharon from the get-go. She said she was grateful not to win because she and Simon Cowell had a difference of opinion on the final single. ‌ Adding: 'I think it would have been a disaster to win it, and then have to bring out songs like that. I love funky stuff. I don't want to be doing Somewhere Over The Rainbow for the rest of my life.' Rowetta said her reason for doing the show was her grandma, who encouraged her to be on TV like the singers she watched. Her career since has included collaborations with the likes of Solardo, Todd Terry, Oliver Heldens and Shed Seven. A proud Mancunian, Rowetta loves being a role model on her local music scene, often performing at Manchester Pride. She said that when she was growing up, 'there was no one to look up to from Manchester that was Black and female.' Last year, in December 2024, it was announced that Rowetta would be leaving the band. The announcement came amidst speculation about past feuds with band member Shaun Ryder. In February this year, MailOnline reported Rowetta sharing that she has allegedly been physically abused by Shaun.
